  1. Strange, we must be opposites. I thought the last bit was the best.
  2. Looking forward to this one. The Samuel bits were great. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  3. Also, the score to the winner of the 1998 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Character (Karakter) borrowed heavily from the Maestro. I was almost chocked to hear 'For Gillian' in that movie. Character is a very good film but it truly deserved a more original score. In my opinion, the score made the film lose one star. The composer probably had to copy the entire temp track, the poor chap. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  4. But surely you must have noticed that The Untouchables is also a little too melodramatic, which is most evident in the iconic-like character of Jim Malone, played by Sean Connery. Sadly, the film can't lift its own pompous weight and therefore is doomed to remain in The Godfather's shadow forever. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  5. After all that work and an apparently good relationship with the director Yared was told over the phone that his score was rejected. The music he wrote for Troy is too artistic for the movie or for the audience, or so the producers think. What does that tell you? It tells me that the ruling climate in Hollywood is precisely what worries me for the future of cinema. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  6. The thing is their reaction to the chest burst wasn't even acted. The actors themselves were flabbergasted by it. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  7. Is that all you have to say about a classic like Alien? Of course, nothing shockes you anymore. The reason for that is pretty clear. Alien has been used as a source for inspiration for a thousands films or more. You literally seen Alien in countless of movies with a different name, different titles. They came in all sort of shapes and sizes. I'm disappointed that you didn't notice the incredible style in which this movie is told. Have you payed any attention to the photography? The incredible sets? The timeless look of this film? Or the natural way of acting, like the camera isn't even there? How the score works almost unnoticeably? The sum of all these aspects makes it one great achievement. Were you only expecting a popcorn ride? If you did then may I suggest you see Aliens. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  8. OK, but that's as Hornery he will get. Petersen probably steered him in that direction.
  9. Yep, it's old-fashioned and I like it. I would've used it if I was the director. At least, I feel this is worth defending against the doubts of the producers.
  10. Neil, go to News, there you'll find The Score To Troy. I'm listening right now.
  11. Luke, who surely will be dissapointed Well, you can't have it all. Maybe the title will disappoint you but at least you have a lot of other good things to look out for.
  12. How about: Star Wars Episode III: Dawn of the Empire Yeah, that could be it. (My ball was a bit unclear about the last word.) Although the story is more about Darth Vader than it is about the Empire. My magic ball makes kind of sense: Anakin will join the Sith. So I still place all my money on: Star Wars Episode III: Dawn of the Sith.
  13. http://www.mahawa.jw-music.net/mp3/blade.mp3 Here you go, son.
  14. Too bad they went out of business. I really loved that tree.
  15. If the re-recording is done by Williams and if he matches the orchestra with the original film during the sessions...Why not? But who's gonna record/mix it? I don't want this to sound like a 90s Williams/Murphy recording.
  16. I'm waiting for the original 20th Century release (double LP) to make it on SACD. Maybe they'll find the original master tape hidden in some fridge or something. Either this, or they have to use the original multitrack recording and completely remix it, while staying as close to the original mix by John Neal as possible. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  17. Maybe it's just going to be one big medley, you know, all the famous themes coming together.
  18. I believe "King Nark" exists. I believe he's the Lord of the Nuke! PS. I'm not Morpheus.
  19. Someone already uses this name. I've found this on the net.
  20. Those polls don't mean a thing. There's a vast amount of people who simply don't care anymore. Most of the time we don't hear or see from these people. And although their voice is mute they actually represent the largest group. They don't keep discussing the movies like some of us do. They certainly don't participate in doing polls about Star Wars. I once saw a man, a guy just like us, returning from an encounter with them who don't care. He totally went nuts and when the doctors had to carry him away, I saw him stretching his arm, with his hand, almost looking like a claw, reaching for the sky. All he could utter was, "They have a life. They have a life." End credits. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  21. The very last cymbal in the "1941" march (from the original album) also has a nice ring to it. And it's a "boom-tzzz" of the softer kind. ---------------- Alex Cremers
  22. Flukes that Lucas is desperately trying to correct.
