AC1 got a reaction from Muad'Dib in BREAKING BAD
Not new but I just came across this: Anthony Hopkins gushes over Breaking Bad and Bryan Cranston in a personal email to him:

    Dear Mister Cranston.

I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.

I’ve just finished a marathon of watching “BREAKING BAD” – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on AMAZON) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.

I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.

I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.

But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers…. every department – casting etc. managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is (that over used word) awesome.

From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.

If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance … The list is endless.

Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence.

You and all the cast are the best actors I’ve ever seen.
That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It’s almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.

Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.

    Best regards

    Tony Hopkins.

Cop Land is good but Rocky is his best (film/character/performance/writing)! And yes, First Blood is easily the best Rambo out there.

Ed Wood is impressive. It showed how high Burton can soar without Elfman.

Not really familiar with them but his Alex North recordings with the National Philharmonic Orchestra (2001: ASO - A Streetcar Named Desire - Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf) always sounded very good to me. Then Jerry went Prague on us ...

Meh, right? If this was my introduction to Williams, I never would've been a fan.

This came completely out of the blue to me. Needless to say, I bought the Blu-ray version in a snap.

Of course you did, it's very Nolan-esque. To me it was another Inception. At least, my reaction (which was extremely negative) to both films was precisely the same. I think Scorsese stopped being an interesting director a long time ago. I haven't seen The Wolf Of Wall Street though.

    Can you read my mind?
Do you know what it is you do to me?
    Don't know who you are,
Just a friend from another star
Here I am like a kid at a school
Holding hands with a god, I'm a fool
Will you look at me quivering
    Like a little girl shivering?
You can see right through me
    Can you read my mind?
Can you picture the things I'm thinking of?
    Wondering why you are
All the wonderful things you are
You can fly, you belong to the sky
You and I could belong to each other
    If you need a friend,
I'm the one to fly to
If you need to be loved, (to be loved)
Here I am, read my mind!
Will you look at me quivering
    Like a little girl shivering?
You can see right through me
    If you need a friend,
I'm the one to fly to
If you need to be loved,
Here I am, read my mind!

I think the sound of the A.I. soundtrack is very palpable, more intimate and less emotionally remote than many other recordings out there. Long live Murphy!

It's never a good idea to say: Hey, let's make a movie, Mr. X will come up with a story and Mr. Y will direct it. Here's the money! Release date is in a year folks!
Whatever happened to great screenplays leading to the making of movies? Today movies are not based on great ideas but on marketable characters/franchises.
I count three and all of them were based on existing good material which leads me to believe Goyer is mostly to blame. You can execute this movie any which way you want but I saw nothing special in the story. In fact, it felt like a simplistic remake of Supes II.
Then again, there are enough people who thought MOS rocked!

Wow, sorta comes as a surprise. Last week I read Scott considered him for Prometheus. The film Alien wouldn't have been the same without him. When i saw the film in 1979, I remember thinking that I never saw something like this before.

That fight scene is actually very well presented. You can really feel the struggle. Then again, the whole movie is Shyamalan's crowning achievement, IMO.

I'm just reporting the news, Steef!

    My dream is:

    - Zack Snyder goes artistic again (The Sandman series?)
    - Ridley Scott goes senile and turns back into the director he was 30 - 35 years ago

    - Stanley Kubrick is still alive and has just finished Napoleon

The film ends so beautifully and you think it just stops and that there is no point to the movie? All I can say is: Spielberg's most misunderstood movie? Focusing solely on the story, I think you missed a lot, Jason, but then again, many did when they first saw the film, including me. You question if you ever want to see EOTS again, while to me, it's the only Spielberg movie that I keep enjoying during reviewing. So it actually makes perfect sense.
