Trent B got a reaction from Pieter Boelen in Star Trek Beyond (2016 Justin Lin) - The Big Bad Star Trek (X)III Thread
I think you should. My brother Mike didn't like Star Trek Into Darkness but he definitely liked Star Trek Beyond and he too thought it was the best of the three reboots.
It's seriously got the TOS feel to it's fun from beginning to end. This is coming from someone who is a Trekkie and liked Star Trek 2009 but only liked PARTS of Into Darkness. It's worth going to see.
Just a word of caution...if you're sensitive to motion sickness (like I am) don't see it in 3D. My brother and I had a hard time sitting through the standard version with how many pans and such the camera did ...basically got dizzy and a bit nauseous from it. Don't think I would have handled it in 3D at all.

Trent B reacted to #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal in FILM: X-Men
X-Men
After seeing First Class last week, and probably going through the Batman films this weekend I thought it prudent to go back to the genesis of the modern era superhero film. X-Men.
Singer had the good fortune that Marvel did not have a style and system in place, so he could do his own thing. It feels like a singular film, rather then part of a product line.
The film is well structured. The opening scene at the concentration camp not only introduces Magneto, but also clearly established his main motivation, and gives us a real world parallel of what mutants are. Without hammering the point in. The rest of the film does a good job introducing characters one after another AND actually having something of a plot.
This is an ensemble film. Casting is important. Each character has a limited amount of screen time so the actors need to get their point across straight away. Overall the cast is very good. Patrick Stewart was probably born to play Xavier and when we first see him and McKellen together in a very brief scene, they are able to tell us more about their past then X-Men: First Class did in more then 2 hours. McKellen is a joy to watch. There's a measures flamboyance to his Magneto, but he doesn't ham it up. He understands that Magneto is a hero is his own mind, fighting on the front line to prevent his race from being outcast again.
Hugh jackman became a star overnight because of this film. and the few scenes he was with Anna Paquin provide the films emotional centre. Famke Jansen and Rebecca Romein are strong in their roles
Less successful is Halle Barry as Storm. Angela Basset was considered and would have made a more forceful impression.
Also Magneto's 2 henchmen, Toad and Sabertooth are not very interesting.
Singers direction is very good, but the film suffers from studio politics. The release date was pushed forward 6 months and parts feel rushed. (for instance Xavier gets poisoned by Cerebro, get hospitalized, Famke Jansen fixes Cerebro and uses it all in a couple of minutes).
Another issue are the special effects, which even for 2000 standards feel a bit rough and unfinished. (is there even a cool shot of the X-Jet?) The action scenes are well done, but suffer a bit from the Matrix syndrome (fancy swivelling cameras in slow motion).
Michael Kamen was a great composer but his music was butchered in this film. Mixed too low most of the time. Techno added by Klaus Badelt.
Despite these niggles this is far better then the average Marvel fare. Pity it would be followed by only one other really good film.

Trent B got a reaction from WilliamHorne97 in How was your Christmas?/what did you get ?(music)
I honestly didn't want anything, told my brother not to get me anything but the turkey did anyways. I got the Star Wars The Visual Dictionary that just recently came out and three gift cards. All ready used one and half but gonna let my lady use the rest for whatever she wants.
For Dawn I suggested to my brother a Star Wars coloring book for inspirtation of her drawings. The turkey though put it "To Dawn, From Trent".
For music wise ended up getting the Home Alone re-issue and Braveheart.

We've always been able to, the site was founded on it. You might be thinking of FSM, which doesn't allow it.

Trent B reacted to Jay in John Williams has a pacemaker!
Exactly. John Williams is in better health than Trent Bennett. Relax everybody!
-
Trent B got a reaction from Jay in John Williams has a pacemaker!
I've got a pacemaker / defib in me. It's so if I go into ventricle flutter attack and it's severe enough the pacemaker will zap me. That's where the lower part of the heart beats faster.
They actually tried to fix this issue but they said I would have to have been put into cardiac arrest to many times and deemed it way to risky so they went with the option of the pacemaker to regulate it if I ever went into that particular attack.
I had atrial flutter where the upper part of the heart beats a lot faster than the lower part...that they were able to repair by burning away at the areas triggering it with radio waves. But ya Donna is right that having a pacemaker doesn't require full on heart surgery. There's a scar where they put mine in...and every so often you have to have it replaced. Luckily mine doesn't need replacing for another few years.

Hot damn. Ordered Parts II and III to complete my collection. Super excited about this!

Trent B reacted to Jay in Alan Silvestri's Back To The Future scores - All 3 now available complete on CD, vinyl, and digital download
Still plenty of holy grails left for me, and the boots of 2 and 3 certainly filled in the hole for those scores for the past ~10 years or so. But man, who would have guessed the eventually legit releases would be 2 CDs each? I had no idea there were so many alternates available for 2 and 3! So cool!
The best news is, of course, that Mike Matessino oversaw the entire production. These releases will be perfect!
The liner notes for 2 and 3 are by Tim Grieving; He just posted this on Facebook about them

An artist's intended OST configuration is a proper release.
Every score should simply get a complete release sometime afterwards

Trent B reacted to Gruesome Son of a Bitch in Sony Classical to release Ultimate Star Wars Soundtrack Collection (January 8, 2016)
That's the cover art with the fucking Stormtrooper helmet? The same old discs erroneously packaged in the original album covers, which they've already done? Interviews with Harrison Ford??
This set looks and sounds like pure shit.

At some point, you can't help wondering if they're just trolling us diehards. All six scores deserve complete, definitive, high-quality releases, and none of them have gotten that treatment.
