  1. Don't you mean you've done more to this board? Ray Barnsbury-who couldn't resist (and is joking)
  2. Wow! It sounds like that was a fabulous concert! Thanks for sharing! Ray Barnsbury
  3. I like JP more, but SL rightfully won the Oscar, as it was much more of a breakthrough for Williams and film music in general. It was also more historically important. But like I said, my personal preference is JP. Ray Barnsbury
  4. It's fine, I was just making a point. Ray Barnsbury
  5. I chose Jaws, after a very difficult time deciding. That said, I like E.T. much more. And Harry, don't think that no one cares about your threads. Several people (Stefancos, Justin, Joe for example) have replied to your review and not mine. And some replied to mine and not yours. So it's just a matter of timing. Don't fret! And another thing, Morn and Figo started discussing classical music in my review thread. That really made me feel good. Ray Barnsbury
  6. I'd like to ask you, which part were you shaking? I saw the movie too, and there is suspense, but not frightening. I didn't think it was intense, dramatic, yes. ***SPOILERS*** Well, first of all, I get creeped out by things that might not seem scary to anyone else. For instance, when they showed the alien walking by on e news. That was seriously disturbing to me. Just the way it it was "caught on camera," appeared so suddenly, had no visible face . . . it just gives me shivers. After seeing that, I was expecting more things like it to jump out, so I was in suspense for the rest of the movie. And how they showed the developments on the news, the fact that it was on a global scale, it made it seems very real. Kind of like Sept. 11. And the part where they board up the house, and the "invasion" begins. It was very intense to me. They're in a boarded up house, knowng something is going on outside, but not knowing what, knowing something is tryng to get inside, but not knowing why. Their poor dog's frantic barks turning to agonizing whines to silence. I think it's like what you don't see is scarier than what you do. Anyway, I did really enoy it nonetheless. The scene where Mel Gibson's character is saying goodbye to his dying wife moved me to tears. And I loved how everything came together at the end (the water, the wife's dying words, the kid's asthma). Very uplifting. Ray Barnsbury
  7. I know I won't be able to think of all my favorite scenes but here are a few that come to mind: The Kitchen scene in Jurassic Park-GREAT suspense Journey to the Island (JP)-breathtaking Any part of Mrs. Doubtfire-FUNNY movie Any of the bone-chilling ghost sightings in What Lies Beneath The exhilarating Land Race in Far and Away The emotional End Sequence of E.T. Peter discovering his powers in Spider-Man Spyders in Minority Report The heartwarming spaghetti pool in Patch Adams Hook Napped-totally scary if you're a kid The booby trapped house in Home Alone The Reunion in A.I. Ray Barnsbury
  8. It was a really tough choce between the Main Theme and the Love Theme. But I chose the Main Theme for the rush of pure exhilaration it delivers. I could have chosen the Love Theme on a different day. Ray Barnsbury
  9. Oh, no hurry. Please do it at your convenience! Ray Barnsbury
  10. No contest. E.T.!!! Ray Barnsbury-who also loves SL
  11. The Patriot is excellent! Ray Barnsbury-who has not heard ID4
  12. Oh, thanks for remembering, Harry! I am definitely interested in furthering my film composer horizons. That would be great. And please let me know if there's anything you need/want that I might have. Ray Barnsbury-also glad this is such an enduring thread
  13. Last February I wrote a letter to Mr. Williams telling him how much I love and appreciate his music, thanking him, etc. I included a self-addressed stamped envelpe just in case, my school picture, and a pic of my JW themed b-day cake my mom made. Just last Monday, 5 months later, I received my envelope back with the pucture of the cake signed by Mr. Williams. Others seem to have had better luck. :? Ray Barnsbury
  14. Welcome to the board! I'm not sure about the piece of music you're hearing. If it's Williams, it may be one of his 4 Olympic Themes, or many concert works. Ray Barnsbury
  15. Williams: Theme from Schindler's List Hymn to the Fallen Somewhere in my Memory when played mournfully can bring memories of Christmases past and with them a few tears The Face of Pan Saying Goodbye from E.T. The Reunion from A.I. Harry's Family Theme Love Theme from AOTC Sean's Theme from Minority Reoprt Non Williams: Cast Away and Forrest Gump (Silvestri) Somewhere in Time and Out of Africa (John Barry) Titanic (James Horner) The Breaking of the Fellowship (Howard Shore) Ray Barnsbury
  16. I just saw Signs today with my younger brother. It was really good, but extremely intense and frightening. Very suspenseful. I was literally shaking for a good part of the film. Nice music by James Newton Howard as well. Anyway, what I am really posting about is a new trailer I saw before before the movie. It's for the animated "Treasure Planet," a play on Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. As soon as the trailer began, my brother and I immediately recognized The Land Race from Far and Away. It was cool hearing this, although I wanted to politely stand up and let people know who wrote it. I guess it worked well for the preview, it was just hard not to think of Irishmen racing across the Great Plains. Ray Barnsbury
  17. Sorry for being confusing. He returned the pic of my JW-themed birthday cake with a signature. Nice, but not like a signed photo of him. Ray Barnsbury
  18. OH MY GOSH! Did I write to him at the wrong time? I wrote as sincere and thouhtful letter as anyone. All I got was my returned photograph with his autograph. Not that that's bad, but compared to boxes overflowing with signed pictures of him, articles, and music written by him . . . Seriously, do you think it could be because this is an extremely busy year for him? Ray Barnsbury-dejected
  19. Man, I love this thread. My love of the Harry Potter books rivals my love of John Williams' musc, so this thread is very enjoyable! IrishCal, your theory about Dumbledore's look is excellent! That could very well be wat it means. Ray Barnsbury-blissful jump1
  20. Don't worry Ren, the opportunity will come around. You just have to make sure and take it when it does. Ray Barnsbury
  21. Thanks Harry. At least you got the AC on you. The feeling of passing out kind of hindered my experience. Ray Barnsbury (suffering from heat exhauston)----->
