It's ok Joe. Maybe you could use some "Oops I Crapped my Pants" from SNL. Ray Barnsbury

E.T. is my favorite score, although that has recently been brought into question by Far and Away; it's so beautiful. But, alas, I feel it lacks that intangible bit of magic that makes E.T. so great. BTW, this is something that has bothered me when listening to the E.T. soundtrack: to me, the soundtrack renditions of the Flying Theme are nowhere near as lush and rich sounding as in the separate "Flying Theme" pieces from Williams on Williams and Greatest Hits. Has anyone else noticed this? Ray Barnsbury

I agree! It is a beautiful score, specifically the tracks featuring Monica's Theme and The Blue Fairy Theme. The Reunion is my personal favorite. Oh, and I like For Always a lot! That really is quite a disrespectful way to disagree. Ray Barnsbury

Thanks for filling us in, Pete. Good luck with that Japanese! Ray Barnsbury

Nice post Ross! I see what you're saying and agree with you. I'm 18, young by the standards of this board, and I know what you mean about the SW movies and scores. The old ones are great on video, but there's nothing like waiting for a new movie and score to come out. We don't get that with the OT because, well, it's been out for 25 years. And Merkel, I completely identify with what you said about JP. I think I was nine, and I saw it three times in the theater (a bg deal for me back then!). I got all the toys and watched the movie countless time on video, thus spending much of my childhood loving all things Jurassic Park. That's why the movie and score will alwas remain much more dear to me than Jaws or the SW OT ever will. Just like how the OT will be more special to those who grew up with it as an integral part of their childhood. Ray Barnsbury

I don't have any of these scores, although I downloaded the Theme from Angela's Ashes. Ray Barnsbury

Hmm . . . it sounds like I would prefer the full 15 minutes as well. Ah well, I'll take what I can get. Thanks for clearing it up! Ray Barnsbury -
I agree! A wonderful score. Braveheart Ray Barnsbury-who only knows because he has the sheet music for turmpet

Do you sometimes feel guilty/ jealous....
Ray Barnsbury replied to PetePan's topic in General Discussion
I guess I can understand what you guys are saying, but I honestly don't know why anyone should feel guilty. To each his own. John Williams chooses to live a very busy and productive life. Say someone on this message board chooses to live on the Internet. That wouldn't be my personal choice, but to each his own. Ray Barnsbury -
I LOVE the Minority Report score (and movie for that matter). It serves its purpose perfectly, and is a wonderful listening experience apart from the film also. The action cues are great, as are the more moving ones. "Sean" by Agatha almost makes me cry. Ray Barnsbury

Don't fret, Ross! Like AHerrera83 said, there's nothing wrong with what you did. I've made short films and home movies using Williams music, and there's no way it can be done without editing it. You're doing Williams an honor by using his music at all, and adapting it to your own needs. So you should stand tall and smile proudly when you see him! Ray Barnsbury

I only have two Horner scores, Titanic and The Land Before Time. The Land Before Time is above Titanic for me . . . wonderful themes! Ray Barnsbury

Actually Miz, I live in Mid-Michigan. But granted, it's closer than Britain. And when I asked earler if Adventures on Earth was the same as Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye, I was given the impression that it was. How is is different? Ray Barnsbury -
Congrats on the concert! I'm going as well, as are Harry Potter and a few others from the board. If you haven't already read it, there's a thread about it called July 28 Cleveland Concert Program. Ray Barnsbury

July 28 Cleveland Concert Program!!!
Ray Barnsbury replied to Ray Barnsbury's topic in General Discussion
I can't wait to be able to experience that masterpiece! It's all the themes composed for the movie in friendly concert arrangement style, but I don't know the order of the themes. ~Harry, who should know That's ok, don't worry about not knowing the order. And I can't wait to hear Adventures on Earth either!!!!!!!!!!! Most likely your incessant history of, er, shall we say, being quite "persistent?" Ray Barnsbury -

I have two quick questions for anyone who knows: Is Adventures On Earth the same thing as Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye? And I know this has been addressed before, but what does the Harry Potter Suite consist of? Thanks! Ray Barnsbury -

Thanks! I plan on enjoying it, and writing about it when I get back. I would love to take pictures. I would think they're allowed, since it is kind of outside. You're welcome! I was thrilled to see what we'll be hearing. Ray Barnsbury -
What exactally makes a particular score complex?
Ray Barnsbury replied to Johnnyecks's topic in General Discussion
Talking about the layers of music reminded me of something I think is so cool in Williams' music. Take Jim's New Life (from Empire of the Sun) or the 1941 March. He first establishes the main theme/motif of the piece first, then somewhere in the middle adds a new one (or more than one). Then at the end, they are played simultaneously! They sound great apart, but even better when played together. It's really fun to listen for things like that. Ray Barnsbury-waiting for a classical music buff to break his bubble and tell him how ordinary that is -
Ohh yes, more moving than most Williams scores Master of tears he is. Infact, AI really isn't any more original than Harry Potter, go listen to some Ligeti and John Adams It's new for Williams though. *sigh* Morn, we got into this before, when I said that A.I. was innovative. When I say things like that, I mean that it is original for Williams, especially since I don't know anything about classical composers. So in my opinion, A.I. is more of a departure for Williams than HP. Ray Barnsbury
