  1. My thoughts exactly. I love both scores, but I would say that A.I. is better than HP, just bcause it seems a little more original. But as for my favorite, Harry Potter is overall a more enjoyable listen. So I guess they're really tied. Ray Barnsbury
  2. I e-mailed the Cleveland Orchestra yesterday, inquiring about the program for John Williams' concert there on July 28. Julie Demorest, of the Orchestra's PR, responded with a full schedule of the evening's performance! The info. is not available on the website as far as I can tell, so I'll post it here. There was also some biographical information on JW included. Nothing we don't already know, but if you want it, just e-mail me. It's better than I could have hoped for! Ray Barnsbury
  3. I just got this release as well. Excellent indeed! Ray Barnsbury
  4. I was referring to the theme that, in Hedwig's Theme, begins right after the horns finish playing the celeste theme. It also is played starting at the begining og Mr. Longbottom Flies. The theme you mentioned may just be a continuation of the Nimbus 2000 theme, I'm not sure. I think the more prominent Voldemort theme, the one that ascends and then descends, is for the actual presence of Voldemort. The other theme, the very low one, I think is for whenever the other characters talk about Voldemort. Ray Barnsbury
  5. This is a GREAT scene with some of my favorite Dumbledore-isms-"I will never have truly left Hogwarts until none there are loyal to me," and then his eyes flicker toward the corner where Harry and Ron are hidden under the Invisibility Cloak. I get chills everytime I read that part, and I can't wait to see it in the theatre! And to throw in my 2 cents about the themes, I've heard it suggested that the Harry's Wondrous World theme could be a theme for Gryffindor. This makes sense, since it is played when Gryffinfor wins both the Quidditch Game and House Cup. Then again, Hogwarts Forever is also played when Gryffindor scores a goal, so I agree that that theme could stand for Harry's house as well. Also, the Nimbus 2000 theme is what opens the track Mr. Longbottom Flies and makes up the middle portion of Hedwig's Theme. Quidditch is the brassy fanfare heard near the beginning of The Quidditch Match and in Harry's Wondrous World. And regarding the Voldemort/Sorcerer's Stone theme(s), I always thought of the 3-note motif as representing the stone, and the more "slithering" motif standing for Voldemort himself. But this can be resolved in future movies since the Sorcerer's Stone makes no more appearances. Ray Barnsbury-still puzzled about the name "Hedwig's Theme"
  6. I wouldn't agree that it's the pinnalce of film music for the 90s either, but it's someone's opinion, not "silly." Ray Barnsbury
  7. Far and Away is one of JW's favorites? That's cool. I love that love theme more and more every time I hear it! I also really enjoy flying themes. Especially E.T., but Hook's is wonderful as well. Naturally! Yes, I like it a lot, especially The Big Rescue. Can't believe it wasn't released before that. Yes, I also really like the John Barry Collection. I knew Somewhere in Time from my parents liking the movie, and I heard Out of Africa in Johnny's Acadmey Award Medley, so I figured I would enjoy other Barry works. I was right! Thanks for catching up, Dan. It's always great to hear from you. Ray Barnsbury
  8. I love John Barry's music, including Dances with Wolves. Not as much as Williams though. Ray Barnsbury
  9. Add me to the list as well. Neither of my local PBS stations are airing it either. Ray Barnsbury
  10. Well thank you! It will be funny when Dan gets back and reads all this stuff about him! Ray Barnsbury
  11. Need you ask? John Williams! Ray Barnsbury
  12. That thread was ridiculous. As much as l enjoy the movie, the score is generally worth hearing more than the dialogue . Thank you Ren for being the only clear-minded one in that thread and actually mentioning John Williams! Ray Barnsbury
  13. I gave it a 9. I LOVED the film, it was a great mystery. It just felt a little loose still at the end. But that's minor compares to how great the rest of it was. Ray Barnsbury
  14. Oh my gosh, this is the funniest thing I've read all day long!!!!!!!! LOL ROTFL ROTFL LOL That is hilarious! (I was thinking the same thing) ~Harry, LOL C'mon Harry, just because A.I. wan't so well received doesn't mean you have to laugh at poor "Dan." I'm sure he's working very hard on his newest film. Ray Barnsbury-poking fun at Dan
  15. I still get a laugh out of that! Ray Barnsbury
  16. Yes, Leaving Hogwarts is a lush, moving track. One of my favorites as well! Ray Barnsbury
  17. Nice to see everyone back here (now where's that Ren :?: ). Hey Dan, I hope Catch Me If You Can is going well. Oh, and I took your advice and purchased the 2-disc Superman set (Rhino), along with Far and Away like I said before, and Out of Africa: The Classic John Barry. I agree with you that Far and Away should have won the Oscar. I watched the movie with my family last night (it was the second time for me), and I was so moved by the music throughout, as were my parents and brother. A great movie and a superior score. Ray Barnsbury
  18. I completely agree, Mari. Somewhere in Time is a deeply moving score, one of my favorites. John Barry is a great composer, and I also love his themes for Out of Africa, Dances with Wolves, and Born Free. Ray Barnsbury
  19. Well I returned, and I'm glad to be back here at the MB! I have had a great time listening to my new soundtracks. The Superman re-release is great, but I am completely overwhelmed by Far and Away. It is a fabulous score, I had no idea what I was missing. Anyway, I'm glad to see that this thread is still alive (thanks Harry!). Let's hear what's new with everyone else! Ray Barnsbury
  20. Simple yet brilliantly written, Harry. Thank you for helping me appreciate my favorite score and movie even more. Ray Barnsbury
  21. HAH! Ray Barnsbury-who would open his Patriotic compilaton with 1941
  22. Hey guys, I just wanted to say goodbye before I leave for a weeklong vacation (no computer at the hotel ). On a side note, I celebrated my first pay check today by buying Far and Away, Superman (2-disc Rhino Set), and A John Barry collection, with Out of Afrca as the title piece. I'll talk to you all soon! Ray Barnsbury
  23. Oh, excellent disc, that one! And I had nearly forgotten it... It has IMHO the best rendition of Magnificent Seven. Two other great compilations conducted by the composer are John Barry's Moviola 1 and Moviola 2, with many of his classic themes beautifully performed. Darn! I just bought Out of Africa, a collection of Barry's Themes, but then realized he did not conduct it. Oh well, I can get the ones you mentione another time. And just to throw it out there, I will be on vacation with my family for a week until next Saturday, so don't be surprised when I don't reply for a while. Again, I appreciate all the contributions and welcome many more! Ray Barnsbury
