Hey guys, I wasn't trying to be demeaning toward Spielberg or anything. I just though it was interesting, true or not. I agree that Spielberg is certainly to be commended for his respect of Williams' scores. Especially compared to some directors, who endlessly praise JW's music and then end up totally disrespecting it. Certain people should get a life . . . and a neck. Anyway, the music for 1941 is spectacular, so what any book says doesn't matter. Ray Barnsbury

Where's Jason? He has decided to log off and post infrequently until there are more interesting topics. A recent thread that was off topic made him mad (and me as well), so I think that has something to do with it. Yes, I've often wondered about the several other songs Williams wrote for the eventually thrown out Hook musical. I think I heard this too. Speaking of 1941, I recently got a job at a local library, and while it's quite boring shelving books for hours on end, I took the opportunity to take a "break" and skim through some Spielberg biographies. Actually I looked up John Williams in the indexes and read those pages . Anyway, I read that Spielberg was so upset about the negativity toward 1941, that he blamed friends and collaborators for its failure, saying something like, "John Williams overwrote the score for my over directed movie that had an overwritten script." How do you like that? Keep in mind this was when it first came out, but it still seems unreasonable. I guess it's okay now, though, since he's said that the March from 1941 is the best Williams march from any of his movies. Just thought it was interesting. Ray Barnsbury

Just to put in my 2 cents, I like FOTR pretty well. But like Harry, I find the frequent use of vocals very overbearing. It's as if Ho Sho, as I call him, was trying too hard to say "I'm writing an epic score! See how I use huge choruses of disonant, powerful voices to create an epic sound? It's very grand and epic like! Did I mention I can now do epic scores?" It gets to be a little much after a while, for me at least. Ray Barnsbury

Welcome back Dan. Thanks for thinking of me, but the Disney trip isn't until next February. Continuing with our tradition of "chatting," I'll chat about my night: My brother and I had gift cards for Barnes and Noble (a book store that also sells music), so this evening my family and I went so my we could pick stuff out. To my delight, they had a trove of film music that I hadn't seen anywhere else: Jaws (OST and 25th Anniversary), CE3K re-release, Superman (OST, Varese, and Rhino), Schindler's List, etc. I ended up getting Jaws OST becuase some people posted here that they liked it better than the re-release for its album arrangements, plus I think it is more rare than the others (I hope!). I also got (don't get mad) James Horner's Land Before Time score. I was amazed at seeing it since it's like 15 years old, and I almost cried when I previewed it at the store's listening station. The music brought back wave of memories from my early childhood, since I watched the movie a lot. I just had to get it. So that's my story of the night. Anyone else have anything to share? I agree, we need to hear from Weebo before we can do anything for him. I'm all for helping him, though. With all that he did for us, including the risks he took in defying large security guards to deliver our messages to Mr. Williams, we owe him. I choose to believe that he was sincere. There's no reason to become cynical and not trusting when we don't know what the situation is. Ray Barnsbury

I also thought of Superman's "March of the Villains" when I heard Eye Dentiscan. So far I'm at track 10 on my first listen. Nothing has really struck me as being great, but it rarely does the first time (I was first disappointed in Harry Potter and now it's one of my favorites). Hearing it repeatedly and in the move will help me form a solid opinion. However, I do like the beauty of Sean's Theme and the action of Anderton's Great Escape. Ray Barnsbury

Wha???? The movie showed how it could happen. Those are the kind of people who would say a movie about the world trade centre being destoryed was not realistic. Yeah I know, that's what I think. I don't see how something has to be realistic to be enjoyable, wouldn't that eliminate the majority of movies? Ray Barnsbury

Not at all! Born on the Fourth of July is a beautiful piece, and I also really enjoy Morrison's playing in that. I just favor Summon the Heroes based merely on personal preference. Ray Barnsbury

I love Jurassic Park, and I like the The Lost World quite a bit. I never understood it when people said they didn't like The Lost World because the end with the T-rex in California was not realistic. Yeah, like the dinosaurs running around the island in the first movie were true to life. :roll: Jurassic Park 3 pretty much sucked plot-wise. It's enjoyable if you just want to vege out and not think for an hour and a half, but there's not much depth to it (and Davis' overuse of the theme(s)??? ). I look forward to a fourth one if Spielberg supports it that much, but I wish he would direct it and have Williams score it. Ray Barnsbury

Morrison is such an amazing player, and all his solos are spectacular. My favorite is Summon the Heroes, it is just such a celebratory piece. Being a trumpet player helps me enjoy his playing even more. Ray Barnsbury

A theme for Padme would be nice, but I voted for Han. It would be cool for some sort of cocky, adventurous theme to show up whenever Han goes into action. Ray Barnsbury
