In all seriousness though, anyone who's questioning Ross' own individual merits should check out My Dog Skip and Tuck Everlasting, two lovely scores.

No one cares about Harry Gregson Williams: the composer of Kingdom of Heaven, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, and Team America?
Well, I still think Sinbad is a fantastic score, and Kingdom of Heaven and the first Narnia score are quite good too (in fact, I'd encourage anyone who's unfamiliar it to give Sinbad a listen and try to forget who composed it). But he's far too hit-and-miss for me to consider him anything more than a solid composer with occasional bouts of greatness.
Giacchino's my pick.

3.5 for me as well. Wonderful highlights in the new themes and certain setpieces, but lots of rehash and uninspired underscore.

Jane Eyre Theme
March from 1941
Dance of the Witches
Star of Bethlehem
Theme from Presumed Innocent
Far and Away - Main/Love Theme
Theme from Sabrina
Theme from Angela's Ashes
The Patriot - Love Theme
Monica's Theme

Ludicrous! Have you seen the score?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Defiance
The Spiderwick Chronicles
Lost: Season 4
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

"Boy's SOUL!"

Did you catch the season finale a couple months ago? I thought it was fantastic, my mouth was agape the whole time at the simultaneous awesomeness/ridiculousness of it all.
-
Eee! I already know one of the guest cast for the second episode (
Michelle Rodriguez/Ana Lucia!
), but I'll restrain myself from looking at the rest.
-
It is distracting, I really wish it wasn't in the score. Supposedly there was a part of the duel where Anakin and Obi-Wan were Force throwing things at each other when Williams scored it.
I wonder if it would be possible to do a decent sounding edit that omits the ESB material. Haven't heard the cue in a long time, so I can't say for sure.
-
All the Home Alone ones are terrific, but as far as more standard "pop" songs go, I like "Moonlight" from Sabrina.
-
Maybe it says something that I like shows where the protagonists are complete bastards.
If that's the case, you might want to check out It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Most horrible people, ever. But hilarious.
-
Let's not forget that totally awkward direct lift of "The Duel" from TESB into the Obi-Wan vs Anakin cue.
I would really enjoy the cue if if weren't for that terrible insert. It just starts to get good, and then BAM, Vader's throwing crap at Luke who's about to fall out a window. Totally distracting, which is too bad because I like that piece better than the actual concert arrangement.
-
Very interesting approach to the piece. Besides his take on "Simple Gifts," I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the "hymn-like"/"reflective"/"prayerful" theme he composed to bookend it.
-

I liked Leia's golden suit.
-
I guess it'd be....
Jaws
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of the Lost Ark
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Home Alone
Hook
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
-
Unfortunately, I kind of knew that since I read that Bounty Hunters book in middle school.

-
I will say that after enjoying both marches on their own, I was surprised to hear a much lower-key score overall when I first listened to it.

Ocean's Apart (aka Juliet's theme) is not my favorite musical moment from the show, but a lot of that is simply because that episode is so weird and...bad. =P It's certainly a very good theme.
Heh, I know what you mean. While the island stuff in most of Season 3 is really great, there are a lot of bizarre flashbacks that don't amount to much (Jack in Thailand, Locke at the commune, Sawyer in jail, etc.) But I do like the moment that "Ocean's Apart" underscores...sort of a new beginning.
And I'm wondering about the S4 soundtrack as well, though I suspect it'll be my least favorite of the first four.I actually think the Season 4 music is just as good as previous seasons, with some amazing highlights (especially the Oceanic Six music in the two finale episodes). It'd be nice to get word of a release by the end of Season 5 at least.
-
"Parting Words" from Season 1 of Lost. The scene is completely carried by the music, and between that and visuals it's such an epic and cathartic moment (probably my favorite of the series). Seeing the clip of Giacchino conducting this at the symphony performance on the Season 4 DVD is quite wonderful.
-
Well obviously "present" is a relative term....
we don't know where or, more interestingly, when the island is anymore.
-
Awesome - I'd heard that the season might not be broken up as much as usual, but no breaks at all is great.
-
Can't wait! I just finished watching the first four seasons on DVD, and I'm totally ready for Season 5. The premiere's gotten several good reviews from what I've read.

My money's on Anne Lively's theme.
