That_Bloke got a reaction from Not Mr. Big in Petiton: Request JW to write Opera
1.. An opera would be nice (and I also happen to like Thomas and the King but that's just me) but if Williams feels he's not up to it then I respect and accept that.

    2. The petitioner seems to think that not writing an opera is all that's stopping Williams from achieving "true greatness", as if the Maestro isn't already truly great. J.S. Bach never wrote an opera and it never hurt his reputation. Bach did come close with the one-off "Coffee Cantata" but that's his "Thomas and the King"

    3. The petition only needs 100 signatures. I figure it'll take a lot more than that to convince Mr Williams to "operate."

    4. Reading the petition I get a sense this project is borne more out of fanboy desire to please the fanboy.

    5. I take it someone used the word "gay" in its proper context and meaning and someone else was offended?

    Cheers.

"Helping his career" is a bit of a stretch, perhaps, but several years ago -- before he got the A list assignments -- Jim and I became cyberfriends. I had several CD-Rs in my collection that needed artwork. He offered to make the artwork for me for his own practice. A couple of years later, he used those artwork pieces on his CV, as a way to get the assignments in the record label business. I still have many of them on my hard drive; I could maybe post them here for Jim Titus fans out there!

He also designed the cover of my master/Cand.Philol. thesis in 2004, which I eventually printed on a nice, glossy paper:

Agreed. I don't bother checking most threads on JWFan anymore because they're filled with irrelevant one sentence posts that add nothing to the bloody topic. You have to skim through 30 replies before stumbling across one insightful comment that actually contributes something meaningful to the discussion.

It's been said ad nauseum by others but stop feeding the bloody troll! Their objective is to derail the discussion and contribute nothing. Acknowledging them and 'playing along' gives them exactly the attention they crave and ultimately wrecks threads just like this.

The Rhino release is Out Of Print.

The Blue Box is Out Of Print.

The full original OST program has never been legally sold in the USA.

Of course a release combining the complete score with the OST should be available for anyone to buy.

The fact it has improved sound and new alternates is just icing on the cake.

No one is forcing anyone to buy it, so no one really has the right to complain.  But this hobby is full of people who like to complain, and there are many outlets for them to complain at.

The process used for this score - cutting the performance edits using the actual 1st gen tapes - is pretty unique overall in the realm of all film scores ever.

But it was actually quite common for a period of John William's output.  Star Wars, CE3K, and Superman were all done this way.  I'm not 100% sure about Empire, Raiders, Heartbeeps, Monsignor, and Jedi but I think they were too?.  The Fury, Jaws 2, 1941, Dracula and ET were not.

Anyway, if you've never had issues with how Star Wars or CE3K sounded before, you won't have any issues with Superman either.  Basically, if you listen really closely, you can probably hear the edit points.  But I believe Mike cleaned up all of the most obvious ones for CE3K and Superman too.

So we're told by a troll (and we know how reliable they are) there's a big load of unreleased stuff that's variation and experimentation of the final score. If such stuff exists then it sounds to me that it's rough attempts or rehearsal takes, and is therefore the musical equivalent of a half-baked dinner. i.e. not worth releasing. I figure if this stuff was worth releasing then JW / Warners would have allowed it. Those "bottle cappers" among us who would buy such stuff don't seem a big enough market to justify the cost of a release.

Looking forward to LLL's release and MM's audio magic.

    1) Pretty much everything the specialty labels put out is the product of going back to the original recording session elements and assembling a new program from that

    2) Mike has gone on various podcasts and said he'd love to re-do Superman again sometime

    3) The LLL Edition of Superman II/III featured new source music from Superman 1 that could have only come from the unearthing of some sort of new element they didn't have when they made the FSM Blue Box in 2008

So I don't understand exactly what anonymous thinks he is "revealing" via these posts here.  Isn't it all obvious already?
