Muad'Dib reacted to chuck in Other 80 year olds still on top of their game and as irreplaceable as John Williams
Here's an 87 year old with a mind still sharp as a tack:

top of the game and irreplaceable is still synoymous with busyness... If JW stopped making film scores back in 2008 and announced his retirement then would you still make this thread? I wonder...

Goddammit I just had to comment on how much I loved this film. I've watched and loved many Kurosawa films, but this one takes the cake so far. Before I considered Rhapsody in August to be his magnum opus, but this movie just moved me so deeply that it's now amongst my favorites of all times.
Beautifully shot (70mm!), exquisetly acted and with a perfect score, this is what going to the movies is all about. A tale of an unlikely friendship surrounded by the forces of nature, which can be both beautiful and deadly.
10/10

West Side Story - loved it for the music and dancing. Bernstein's/Sondheim's score is still one of my all time favorite works of art.

Be sure to check out Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk and, most importantly, Scaramouche.

Rear Window: What a delightfully entertaining film this is. Perfect for hot summer day fare. The script is witty, the direction sharp and the setting and story unique, befitting Alfred Hitchcock. James Stewart brings that low burning believable everyman hero charisma to his Jeffries character and Grace Kelly is at times ethereal yet sparky leading lady Lisa, at the same time extremely refined and lady-like and wonderfully brave and gutsy. Their banter is just a joy to watch and the chemistry very much at the heart of the story. Raymond Burr is expressive as Thorwald, whose actions we follow but he only gets to speak a scarce few times during the whole movie. Still he projects a lot of personality evern when we see him at a distance. The whole concept of watching the life of a neighbourhood from your window and seeing the multitude of small worlds open up before your eyes with drama, comedy and tragedy is a masterful creation. The suspense built throughout it subtle yet reaches nail biting conclusion, which derives from the rather mundane circumstances we can all relate to yet it is a fully cinematic experience in typical Hitchcock fashion from the (actual) curtain raising scene to the last frame.

I know this is an old program and there have been other videos like this one on Youtube over the years but I don't think there's been one where it's been uploaded in its entirety.

If it's been uploaded already, I'm sorry. I didn't bother to find out.

Rope is an underrated Hitchcock film not too many people talk about. I'd recommend that one.

Came across this video interview with Paul Thomas Anderson. Somebody asked him about working with Jonny Greenwood and he spoke about the influence of the Spielberg/Williams collaboration on the use of music in his films (jump to 49:13 in the video):

Let's not forget about Tintin 2, maybe Johnny was talking about that too...
And I guess this confirms he isn't doing any Pixar films. Expected, but still dissapointing.

Wow, a century! Truly remarkable.
Happy birthday, Le Sacre!
If anybody's interested, here Bernstein goes into excellent detail about the piece (and other Stravinsky greats) and even plays some bits:
