This gives a way better idea of what happened than I could tell Best part for me was seeing it in the El Capitan. It was my first time and it's an absolutely gorgeous theater. -

I was at that event and the digital print was pretty amazing looking. I was expecting them to announce the bluray there too. -

She's since edited/deleted her comment so I figured something was up. Sorry Chris! -

According to Jorge Garcia's girlfriend, Giacchino is scoring the Alcatraz pilot and then his wife will be scoring the rest of the series. That's right. -
Upcoming talented composer- check it out!

Do you know if he's interested in writing for film? Looking at his site it seems like he's more interested in writing for the music hall. -

I like his stuff. Even though he uses synths, he doesn't sound like he was trained on them, which is becoming a problem it seems like. -
Alan Silvestri scoring Captain America: The First Avenger
QMM replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
I have to say, though, the main theme sounds like Christopher Lennert's theme to Medal of Honor Rising Sun. -
Alan Silvestri scoring Captain America: The First Avenger

Listening to it right now, the main theme didn't initially grab me but I'm really liking the action music. It's good old fashioned music and you can definitely hear vintage Silvestri in it. -

The Guard Hilariously crass and obnoxious. If you were offended by In Bruges at all (this is the director's brother), then steer clear. Nice score by Calexico, too.

Anybody know what the music is that starts at 0:36? I've heard it in trailers before.

I don't know where else to post this and I didn't want to start another thread. Today I went to a talk held by the LA Film Festival with Thomas Newman, Clint Mansell and Mychael Danna. Good talk, Newman was especially well spoken. No one outright said it, but they all sort of gave the impression that they aren't happy with how scores are being made today. Temping was brought up a bit and Newman said that he hopes that the temps are bland so he can make something better. Also was interesting that none of them listen to other film scores and don't want to.

That talk at Hammer is going to be posted online later this week on their website for those interested. -
Just got back from an Iron Man screening along with a Q&A with Favreau (and surprise appearance by Downey). He showed some Cowboys and Aliens footage, some of which had bits of HGW's score. It sounds like most of HGW's last few scores so take that as you will.

Super 8 It's good, I liked it, but it didn't emotionally grab me like I thought it would. The score was mixed pretty low in the first half but what I heard I liked. I picked out three themes, with one of them sounding like the German theme from SWON.

I emailed the Hammer museum asking whether they'll put the Abrams/Giacchino convo online, as I might not be able to make it. They're thinking about making it a podcast, but they're still getting permissions. -

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
QMM replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
Tree of Life It's a difficult listen for me. The track I liked most from the previews, Motherhood, continues to be my favorite track, no doubt because it's the most melodic.
