  1. At least for Finland Spotify has now the full album available: http://open.spotify.com/album/3Q08y3UGU6lqRpksL66EHO
  2. It was a great inside joke! One of the first works by Giacchino was the music for The Lost World: Jurassic Park computer game. Game was produced by Dreamworks and he's career started when Steven Spielberg invited him to compose music for the game.
  3. Most of these bootlegs use silver color CD-Rs and are not really pressed. This release has sound effects included so it doesn't sound like a legit album release. I don't think it is fair to sell these fan made dvd-rips for fifteen pounds (30$)!. This seller has five of them and also many other releases. If you really need to get it, buy the dvd and make a rip to our own use.
  4. I can confirm that this is a bootleg. It is ripped from the DVD, some of the tracks has sound effects. It also has some source cues and tracks from the album. Same seller is also selling 4 CD version of Young Sherlock Holmes
  5. Like I said earlier in this same thread, John Williams got a Gold Record Award from the Philosopher's Stone and it sold at least over 500 000 copies!
  6. When Paramount released DVD-versions of the movies they also remastered soundtracks (THX Certified). I presume they also mastered the score-only tracks from the old master tapes. It would not be so hard to use this remastered material for the new CD releases. DCC released in 1995 an expanded version of the Raiders of the Lost Ark and it sold out quite fast. If this was commercially profitable it should be profitable to re-release them all.
  7. So will he orchestrate the score? God! I can't wait to hear another watery orchestrated score. Great.... Conrad Pope as an orchestrator should not be any surprise. He has been working with Williams since Jurassic Park (many times uncredited). He probably is not the only orchestrator working on this project. You should remember that Williams really orchestrates almost everything by himself. I am very curious what scores do you seem orchestrated so "watery".
  8. It would be very interesting to hear a Jean Sibelius score for a film! Tchaikovsky would be my second choice.
  9. I was talking about the Sibelius Academy with my friends yesterday and noticed that I haven't answered to your message. Sorry for the late reply! Yes it is! Like Carnifex said, it is even prettier inside. A few more pictures from the Sibelius Hall: I suppose you mean Vänskä and Salonen.... I've seen both of them many times! Sibelius Academy is the only music university in Finland and all of our internationally known talents have studied there. It is in fact one of the biggest music universities in Europe. The Academy has contributed to developing musical culture in Finland but I don't believe we should be thankful only to it. We have here many possibilities to study music and I believe that teaching music to children is one of the most important part of our music education. You should visit during one of our high quality music festivals. A few good choices might be: Sibelius Festival in Lahti, Naantali Music Festival (mostly chamber music), Savonlinna Opera Festival, and Musica Nova festival (contemporary music).
  10. If I remember correctly, Philosopher's Stone sold around 200,000, but the sequels garnered far less. Blumenkohl has the figures. John Williams got a Gold Record Award from the Philosopher's Stone and it sold over 500 000 copies.
  11. Those Ondine recordings of Sibelius chamber music are great. Jaakko is indeed a brother of Pekka. Jaakko is also known for his amazing talent with the violin and has recorded chamber music and violin works by Sibelius. Unfortunately, it was not allowed to take any pictures during a concert.
  12. Many years I have been a great fan of The Lahti Symphony Orchestra and have been visiting concerts even though the travel from Turku to Lahti will take 3 hours. I really didn't consider how harmful would it be to the orchestra to share a video of this wonderful concert. It's is rare moment to hear Williams's music in live in Finland and it would be sad if these concerts would not be arranged in to the future. It is a rare (maybe only!) opportunity to listen a full John Williams concert online and I think all the members of this forum hope that to be possible again. Thank you Jaakko for making this great concert possible and thanks for your comment!
  13. 14. I'm so excited about todays concert in Lahti! At tuesday I heard Star Wars-theme, Imperial March, Yoda's theme, Luke and Leia, The Throne Room Credits, and E.T.'s Adventures on Earth performed by Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. And now another concert! There was an article in the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat about that Hämeenlinna concert. I could send that to you by email if you are interested (tilaan HS:n sähköistä versiota ja pihistin tästä artikkelin). Just PM me and tell your email address. I will report my listening experience later, but probably I'm too drunk (that kind of event should be celebrate!) also so I will be back on tomorrow. I'm going to record that videostream from the concert.
  15. Be very careful what you play. Cadillac of the Skies, and other grand film-score cues may end up sounding very out of place at a funeral. The music really should be dignified. (I LOVE Cadillac of the Skies, but I honestly can't imagine anything like that working at a funeral)> There migth be some cultural differences when would the music be played in the ceremony. I think this music would be a perfect choice when the coffin is carried away from the altar. If you will listen the first minute of this version you will understand. People will immediately leave the chapel following the coffin and purpose is not to listen a whole track.
  16. What's the difference between this and the album version? It's hard to describe... It's very different arrangement and it is performed without a choir. I would not choose the version on the soundtrack cd.
  17. I would recommend to use some of these tracks: Angela's Ashes - Angels Never Cough Seven Years in Tibet - Regaining a Son Schindler's List - Remembrances Nixon - The Meeting With Mao Stepmom - The Days Between A.I: : The Reunion Hook - The Face of Pan (The Boston Pops: Williams on Williams CD -version) Empire of the Sun - Cadillac of the Skies (The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration CD -version)
  18. I have 96 kps mp3-stream recorded. Please contact me if interested.
  19. Ok. I will now send you a list of names but you can start searching for the names from Google. Just type "Media Ventures"
  20. You can find something similar from the first track from complete bootleg but it is orchestrated slightly differently. The whole track has many similarities and it think my promo version might not be a remix or made from clips. It migth even be an alternate take from the film score. First track from the complete-bootleg is not really from the movie. It was recorded for Boston Pops CD (Music for Stage and Screen). I analyzed and compared both of them with some audiosoftware and I found that the beginnings are identical and they are from the same source. If someone else is interested in hearing my promo, just PM me.
  21. Thanks for your response! It has some synth percussion added but I am not sure if is a remix. I will PM and ask your opinion.
  22. Half year ago I found Born on the Fourth of July promo-single from local web-auction (huuto.net). All of my promo-recordings have earlier contained those same tracks than the normal version so I just put the cd in my bookcase and forgot it. One of my friend never had heard about John Williams and asked me about that single. I was shocked when I played it to her and found a version of the main theme I had never heard. There is a version which have more powerful ending. Promo is pressed MCA-promo (MCA CD45-18122) and has two tracks. Both are named "Born on the Fourth of July" and first is 3:25 in length and second 3:55. Can these tracks be found from another cd? I'am quite sure that you can found the promo from eDonkey-network
  23. There's one more John Williams concert in Finland! Turku Symphony Orchestra with Atso Almila will perform music from the Star Wars films! Concert will be held at the Turku Concert Hall in 13th November. Star Wars-konsertti (only in Finnish) I am going to the Friday 3 pm concert in Lahti. I will record the video-stream from Friday evening concert and will try to get it available to all of us.
