Docteur Qui got a reaction from Brando in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (Disney Records Original Soundtrack Album) - NO FILM SPOILERS!
    I've got a few ideas:

The Dial sends the main characters back in time 250 million years to a beach swarming with... horseshoe crabs!

Alternatively, they're flung into the far future in which earth has been taken over by giant.... tardigrades! (They can survive in space dontchyaknow)

God this is stupid, it make me laugh out loud. Kudos.

It also made me wonder... Does Indy hate eels as much as snakes? Or is he ok with them? They're basically the same.

Oh no, I know! Sorry, didn't mean to imply otherwise. I meant that people who are trying to pass off fake stuff and aren't trying to be creative and funny like you were have it so much easier these days with recent advancements. I appreciate your old school throwback! It took me back and unlocked a few early Internet memories that I had forgotten, so I thank you for that, sir.

Dubbing (re-recording and mixing) is a post-production process used in filmmaking and video production, often in concert with sound design, in which additional or supplementary recordings (doubles) are lip-synced and "mixed" with original production sound to create the finished soundtrack.

The process usually takes place on a dub stage. After sound editors edit and prepare all the necessary tracks—dialogue, automated dialogue replacement (ADR), effects, Foley, and music—the dubbing mixers proceed to balance all of the elements and record the finished soundtrack.

Anyone who reads the infamous Raiders story conference transcript has to concede that Lucas was the driving creative force behind Indy. He definitely had a vision for the character and film.

That said, a lot of his ideas were hair brained and some of them were...let's say, questionable. Spielberg (and Kasdan) definitely pulled him back from the ledge on some things. But Spielberg's role comes across more as a director trying to see someone else's vision, almost as a sounding board who is more reactive to ideas than proactive. His ideas, and he has some good ones, are more in response to what Lucas has put out there. It's also clear Spielberg is already sorting out the action beats, and how each scene will play out in the film. For example, Lucas says "Oh, and the hero has a whip", and Spielberg gets the idea that he'll use it to rope in the girl, or snap someone's belt so their pants fall off, that kind of thing. But Lucas was the clearly the idea person.

That's not to dimmish Spielberg's huge role. Obviously, Raiders would not have been Raiders had Lucas (or anyone else) directed it.

I find JW original in the sense that there's a strong and evolving JW musical personality that calls me back _to it specifically_ and not necesarily to his references

(same as with some of his references)

It would never hold up in court - Star Wars wasn’t nearly boring enough to prove a connection to Dune.

Not that the other two aren’t influences as well, but have you SEEN The Hidden Fortress?? Its influence over the original Star Wars is pretty damn huge, so I can’t fathom this point of view.

One of the many reasons TLJ is an excellent legacy sequel is because the director actually understood what inspired George Lucas to make Star Wars in the first place; old adventure serials, footage from WW2 and the films of Kurosawa. The Luke/Rey/Kylo plot is a reference to Rashomon, and brings the Jedi back to their samurai-inspired roots. The whole conceit of a continuous chase sequence on an interstellar scale is equal parts adventure serial and World War II sea-based warfare.

If Mangold similarly understands the point of Indy as a character and the film is structured accordingly, this could be a very good movie. Part of me admires Lucas for trying to give Indy 4 a different spin, instead basing it on the sci-fi schlock of 50's Red Scare era. But ultimately that attempt didn't translate.

Docteur Qui reacted to Falstaft in Moonlight Lead Sheet
Inspired by the gorgeous La La Land release of Sabrina, I put together a lead sheet of "Moonlight" that some of you may enjoy.

The version I transcribed this from is the Sting one in A major. Initially, I attempted to precisely capture his melodic syncopations--which are pervasive, and essential to the effect of the song in that performance. But pretty quickly I decided for a very rhythmically simplified rendering, the kind typical of an actual lead sheet. The chord symbols and transcription of the intro vamp are true to what we hear in the recording though, I think.

If anyone spots any errors, which I'm sure there are some, point them out. Enjoy!

I recently finished my rewatch. Still holds up for being nearly 20 years old!

Season 5 is my favorite. Sawyer is still one of my favorite fictional characters.

Terry O’Quinn is a master of his craft, especially in Seasons 5 and 6.

True, but the mystery bit was never my attraction to it. It was more the sense of "being there", at least the early seasons. The atmosphere, the survival, the nature, the nooks and crannies of the island.

For those who have never rewatched the show, I highly recommend it whenever you can.

You’re all already aware of the twists and turns of the narrative, which gives you a much different perspective the second time around. For better and for worse. There are plot moments you know will never be revisited again, but there is so much more that’s carried throughout that will carry greater context and meaning.

Ben becomes an even more sinister antagonist when you know all of his lies. “Locke” in Season 5, in particular, can be appreciated in a completely different way.

Everyone here has seen the whole show, yeah? We're talking re-watches?

We watched it again about... three years ago? There are a few dead ends that I wish they had either pursued or wrapped up. The last season with Jacob meanders more than I wanted it to (when they should have been winding down rather than asking more questions).

But I will stand by the finale (the full version! There is a short version that is TERRIBLE) being probably the most satisfying finale I've ever seen. (I mean, Star Trek: The Next Generation might edge it out.) It hits all of the characters and lands every emotional beat that gets thrown at it. (I will say again: DO NOT WATCH THE EDITED VERSION.)

Docteur Qui got a reaction from Brando in Williams debuts "Helena's Theme" from Indiana Jones 5 at the Hollywood Bowl
When I was a young teenager and obsessed with the first Potter score I would sometimes daydream that I was cast in one of the films as a major character. In my little fantasy I insisted on attending the recording sessions and meeting with Williams, and he was always so pleased that I showed interest in his music.

When I saw all the footage of Daisy at the recording sessions for TFA, seeing how chuffed she was about the whole thing, it gave my inner child such vindication! Glad to hear Phoebe Waller-Bridge is in the same boat, it would be such an honour!
