Interesting that he's using a real celeste instead of Kerber on synth.  I was under the impression that for recording sessions of the last 20 years he pretty much always used a synth celeste.

OK I'm gonna stop with my middle-age grumbling about fandom after this I promise, I know it's getting old, but I find it kinda weird how often people try to defend the "adultness" of things like Marvel and SW, citing body counts and dark themes etc. It's ok that these franchises are geared towards children. And for what it's worth, live action and animated movies, series, cartoons etc have depicted these kinds of things for decades now. That doesn't mean they're not still aimed toward a younger audience, and nor does that fact mean you can't still enjoy it as an adult.

But at the end of the day, it's mostly implied, and none of them are actually going to show any blood (outside for the occasional scar or semi-cauterised wound). So it seems to be a bit of a moot point IMO. I will say though that the image of an amputee Anakin screaming in pain while burning alive is probably a bit much for the kids, yiiiikes.

Yeah going by that trailer it looks pretty good, I'm actually intrigued! The visuals are gorgeous, and I love the period costuming, not an easy thing to communicate considering the wizard world already dresses pretty old-timey.

Combat appears to be a bit repetitive though, watching that just felt like "stun, grab, disarm/attack" over and over again. I hope there's some fun combat spells like rictusempra (where the victim uncontrollably laughs, inexplicably in the film of CoS it was just... a pushy thing), even if it's just early on, before you progress to stupefy or the curses. Seeing petrificus totalus in there is pretty fun, and getting plants/beasts to help out is cool! Can't say the story intrigues me much, just another chosen one RPG character with a mysterious past blah blah blah. Looks like the kind of game that I'd spend most of my time doing side-quests, so hopefully they're decent.

Who's the obvious composer for this? Once upon a time it would've been Jeremy Soule, but.... yeah. Maybe James Hannigan, who did a fairly good job adapting Hedwig's Theme in his games?

I can think of a few reasons/thoughts why they haven't announced a composer yet, but nothing that doesn't just fuel more baseless speculation.

    - It's a high-profile composer like Powell, Giacchino or JNH who they want to keep under wraps until closer to the premiere in order to bump the news cycle.

    - It's an emerging composer, and the media traction they'd get on an announcement isn't much to write home about so they haven't bothered. And if it was Göransson overseeing things again (either solo or with a collaborator) we'd have heard about it by now. He's also probably been too busy with Mando/Boba anyway, so we can safely count him out IMO.

    - They want people to really hang onto the fact that Williams composed and recorded the theme, and don't want a composer announcement to overshadow that juicy bit. Many people didn't read the announcement of his involvement very closely and think Williams is coming back for the whole thing anyway.

    - With the above in mind, it could be a long-time collaborator of Williams' like Don Davis or William Ross - on his recommendation - and they might want to just keep the illusion that it's Williams and/or in his style so may never make an actual announcement about it, or it's a footnote in a closer press release.

    - I can't see Williams signing off on just anyone to directly adapt a new theme of his, so I keep leaning towards Powell or one of the above. It just makes sense.

    - It's Gordy Haab, which.... eh. Great imitator. Haven't heard anything original of his though.

As you've already learned, it was a book first, but the real drawcard for this series is that it was adapted and written by Steven Moffat of Doctor Who/Sherlock/Tintin, and the reigning king of non-chronological storytelling. I'm really excited for this one, but even more excited for the other show he's got coming called Inside Man and starring David Tennant and Stanley Tucci. What a team!

I dunno, the original novel was super popular.  More like a new adaptation.

I'd like to spend some time ranking the likelihood of each of these scenarios but I simply don't have the effort.... I just wanna know!

Lol, the whole gatekeeping rhetoric around who is a real fan and who isn't is completely ridiculous. There's different degrees of fandom, sure, but who actually gives a shit if someone got onto Star Wars after watching one of the Disney productions? Also, it's amusing to think of Star Wars as even having a bandwagon; it's literally the most popular franchise of all time. Everyone has heard of it and hundreds of millions of people have seen at least one of the films or shows. It's not some underground indie film series that only the cool people know. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but grow up.

If Lucas was still in charge he wouldn’t bother trying to justify Vader’s line in the TV show, he’d just go straight back to the original movie and change it to this.

    Well played, Sir

What bothers me isn't  the plot not fitting together across several movis, nor do the gaping holes in the continuity. What bothers me is when the spirit of the story (and not the plot), is sacrificed in order to generate more content.

And the spirit of their encounter in the first Star Wars is clearly that of two former friends, now rivals, that had not seen each other after their one, major, clash. In fact, it was assumed by everyone, Vader included, that Obi-Wan had perished in the Jedi purge. And that's you really need to know: they were master and student, they fought years ago, Anakin became Vader, the Jedi were hunted down and killed and everyone assumed Obi-Wan was dead..

Again, this extra content just dillutes the story.

That's what all these callbacks in these new filler stories are doing: making all the original stuff a lot less special instead of widening the universe and doing whatever they want. R1 and Solo fail this in their concept already. EpIX: Let's throw out all the progress towards new stuff and pull everything back terribly to the old stuff in the most stupid ways possible, even we don't care how! Mando S1 was on the right track but no, we gotta hold it back and force it into the Filoniverse! Boba went off the deep end and cheapened everything including Luke, his Jedi school, Tatooine, everything.

You mean to say that Star Wars - the media franchise whose second movie ever completely invented a familial relationship between the original hero and villain; whose third movie fabricated a sibling relationship between the main male and female characters; whose fourth movie had aforementioned villain be the creator/owner of the droid duo from the originals; whose fifth movie invented a conflict between a minor bounty hunter character and the mentor character from the original; whose sixth movie depicts its female lead dying in childbirth despite her only daughter explicitly mentioning she remembered her in the third one; whose ninth main film completely fabricates a familial relationship between its new protagonist and the archvillain from the first six films - is playing fast and loose with continuity?
