  1. Lostpedia is actually the best and most useful website dedicated to the show. I use it a lot to get deeper and to keep updated and informed about Lost.
  2. I don't know if it's been pointed out already, but LostPedia has a pretty accurate themes/motifs breakdown. Cool!
  3. I think it's a bit too early to draw adamant conclusions about this so-much talked boxset. We just have to wait and see how this will turn out. Also, it's unfair to beat upon Concord Music Group for the responsibilities about issuing expanded or complete releases of these scores. They have acquired the rights to the soundtracks, but remember: it's LucasFilm who has the final say about how to market these kind of things. Indiana Jones is their property (music included) and it's their decision how to deal with merchandising and related products. So, if we will get straight reissues of the original albums, don't start to send angry e-mails to the guys at Concord... they probably do only what they're said to do.
  4. There's also "The Mummy Cave" (which includes scoring for a deleted scene, if I'm right) However, I agree with your choices! Maurizio --
  5. There are plenty of great orchestras in Europe: Germany has some of the best in the world (Berliner Philharmoniker above all, of course), but Austria, France, Spain, Netherlands and Italy too have some great ensembles. However, I find English orchestras to be absolutely top-notch. I think American orchestras are great and some of them are absolutely the best you can find in the world (NY Phil, Chicago Symphony, LA Phil, Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony).
  6. It seems they shot these alternate finales just to create confusion about spoilers. And it seems they succeeded.
  7. Ouch. Very bad news. I hope no one has been seriously injured.
  8. I'm not the type of guy who easily get enthusiastic, but this Season Finale was friggin' AWESOME! I was on the edge of my seat for the whole game, every single element was top-notch (acting, directing, cinematography, editing, production design and of course Giacchino's marvellous scoring) and the final moments were absolutely stunning. Kudos to the whole creative team (Damon and Carlton above all) for making some of the best, most clever and emotionally satisfying entertainment ever seen on television.
  9. Are there any interesting articles about Williams and the music in this new Making Of book? I'm planning to get it anyway, but I hope there's a section on JW.
  10. It seems JW always brings his most interesting and varied programs to Chicago. Damn, I'd love to return there!
  11. I really LOVE the last minute of this cue! It has a kind of A.I. vibe, but when it reaches the climax, Williams shows he's still at the top of his game.
  12. Very sad news indeed. He was a great great pro and a superb musician. Goodbye Sandy, we'll miss you.
  13. Very sad news indeed. He was a great pro. I especially love Three Days of the Condor, an absolute masterpiece of 70's cinema.
  14. I'm starting to think that maybe the new upcoming Indy re-releases could be along the lines of the Star Wars Anthology set (i.e. expanded re-sequenced versions, but still not complete). Maybe LucasFilm will tread the waters like in that case to see if there's a general interest and then in a couple of years will release the complete 2-CD versions of all four scores.
  15. Yes, I ordered it on play.com. Very fast delivery service, I should say!
  16. My CD arrived today! Finally! <_< Listening to it right now... it's great!
  17. Well, it's surely great that a new generation of listeners will be able to buy and enjoy Indy soundtracks, but if they are straight re-releases of the original albums then it's a missed opportunity. However, I'm quite confident that complete releases of all four scores will see the light of day. I bet there will be an opportunity when the films will be released on hi-def.
  18. Considering how things worked in the past with Star Wars albums, it's very likely this will be a new print of the older releases, just with new packaging and all. The fourth disc will surely be KOTCS.
  19. The sooner the better! In the meantime, I've just received the Season 3 CD from play.com and I'm enjoying it very much. It's a very compelling listen imho.
  20. Johnny is a cool cat! He seems very happy and buoyant about his new opus. Also, his living room looks pretty neat.
  21. Awesome news! This is one of my top favourite scores of all time! I finally can get rid of that old CD-R copy! These are great days to be a JWFan... Wohooo!
  22. I still have to listen to the score, so I'm waiting to expres my opinions, but from what I'm reading here, the general fan reaction seems very much to remember what happened with The Phantom Menace. And it makes me smile, because I was very much seeing this coming. It's somewhat sad that every time there are people who insistently hope to hear a new Williams score "like the old ones he used to do". These people will always be dissatisfied or annoyed and there's nothing you can do. They want to hear again and again the same kind of music (excuse the pun). The fact is that real artists evolve and always go forward. This is something that could annoy us, but that's the reality. People who were hoping that Williams would return to his so-called "80's style" (whatever that means) probably don't know that artists don't think exactly like we normal people. This doesn't mean that we should not criticize Williams or that we don't have the right to dislike his scores. It's always a matter of taste, of course, but we should probably ask better to ourselves what we really like and why we like more of one thing and less of another. Also, this kind of reaction has more to do with the nostalgia of the past than anything else. It's a very common and human thing, we always want to relive the magic of our childhood as much as possible and we want to be excited like when we were kids. And when our expectations don't meet with the reality of the situation, we feel betrayed. Indiana Jones is something probably very much tied with the childhood of many people here (myself included) and this is what's happening. I'm already seeing the sharp knives and the huge backlash of many people about the film itself... What I really don't understand and probably never will, is the people who constantly say that Williams "lost it" or "isn't capable any more to write great music" or, even worse, that "write too many notes" (!!!), as if the majority of those people are all great composers. It's our right to criticize something, but I think we need stronger arguments than those. Otherwise these remarks will always sound as fanboy whining at best.
  23. Question for Erik Woods: Do you already kknow if Michael will score the upcoming new J.J. Abrams' series Fringe? Thanks!
  24. Very well said, Marcus. I agree with my whole heart. I deeply enjoy Williams' music because I always find the work of a true artist in there. He's a real composer, a true musician and that's what many people even here seem to not understand. I'm sure this quality is also very much present in the new Indy score, which I still have to listen (because I like to listen to real CDs on my stereo system, call me nostalgic )
