  1. Breaking the Code? Huh? Is that from Shuttle Tyderium Approaches Endor? - Marc, who loves that latter cue.
  2. What's even weirder is that Jerry Goldsmith is credited for "The Star Trek Movies," even though there were also ST scores composed by other composers (James Horner, for instance). - Marc, who can't really remember who scored which ST film, as he only saw half of them and isn't really a Star Trek fan.
  3. Oh yeah, that was one of the many bits that made me want the soundtrack so much when I put it on my wanted list a long time ago. But wait a minute, haven't we forgotten one of the most well-known incidental melodies here? The Dark Side Beckons, with that awesome choral bit as Luke goes all loco on his old man. Brilliant stuff! - Marc, who will now listen to it.
  4. That's awesome! It's pretty much a draw. I think I'll vote Luke & Leia, because it's just a bit more sweeping than the other theme I'd vote for (Han & Leia). Luke & Leia is a bit more melodramatic. But Han & Leia is great too. I love that rendition in the Hoth base with the soft strings. Brilliant. But every once in a while, something else than TESB has to shine. 8O - Marc John Williams - Luke And Leia from Return of the Jedi
  5. All right. Shore DID do an incredible job on the LotR movies. But the all-time greatest?! No effin' way! How, for the love of God, did Gladiator beat The Empire Strikes Back? Clearly, a lot of people voted on their favorite score of the last few years, not knowing too much of others. In fact, I don't think I would have voted, as I don't know a lot of non-Williams scores that are counted among the great. I've never heard them, or seen the films (in fact, I don't think I've seen/heard even half of Williams' scores). This is also the reason why I didn't participate in the Official JWFan Top 10 List, as at the time, I had not yet heard CE3K, Jaws, and Superman outside of the films (I think I hadn't even seen Superman at that time), and I still haven't heard the Indy scores outside of the films. I found my knowledge lacking, and therefor did not participate. (Am I ranting yet? Whatever.) Anyway, a list like this is always likely to have newer scores at the top, as these are the ones that are in recent memory, and especially new collectors own, as they are widely available. Perhaps this just shows that the Star Wars scores are so great and timeless, that even 25 years after the first one was released they still rank high. Or are people ranking Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace higher than E.T.? That would really be disturbing. - Marc, hoping this made sense, and that his point came across. 8O John Williams - Death Of Jonathan Kent from Superman: The Movie
  6. The Tauntauns have special music as well. I'm not sure whether I would call it a theme, or even a motif, it's just a bit of music that seems to be repeated several times in the beginning of TESB. One of the places from the top of my head where you can hear it is Han riding out into the blizard looking for Luke. I think it's shortly before Ben appears, but I'm not sure. I love how Williams just throws a bit like that in. One of those things that makes TESB great. - Marc, 8O The Empire Strikes Back John Williams - Destruction Of Krypton from Superman: The Movie
  7. Oh joy. Another 24 fan. Good for you, Marian. You WILL get hooked fast. Day 2 starts here tomorrow, but I've already seen the entire 2nd season on the BBC. I can't wait for the DVD's. But I will wait for the Dutch DVD's (which'll take about 6 months, until after the serie's finished here). I expect they'll be out soon after the finale, just like the first season (about 5 days after). - Marc, who has seen Day 1 four times and Day 2 two times. "I'm gonna need a hacksaw." Classic.
  8. I think it would be cool, but I probably wouldn't be able to come. I'm only 16, and I live in Holland, so getting to such a meeting would be a big problem. But it sounds like a cool idea. - Marc, at school.
  9. Really? How did you find out about this? - Marc, always interested in alternate versions of... pretty much anything. Howard Shore - Helm's Deep from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (OST)
  10. 24 is my favorite TV-show (and when it comes to critiquing it, I can be a little bit biased ), and I hope you'll like it too. After the first two eps it seems to take a different turn, though. Nothing shocking, just that it doesn't focus as much on the "conspiracy within CTU" subplot anymore. But you'll see. - Marc, 24 fan.
  11. Chamber of Secrets has the music mixed awfully low. I can just imagine it. "Hm. This score isn't nearly half as good as the last one." "Yeah. ... Wait, I know. Let's mix it really low, so no-one'll notice!" "Okay!" - Marc
  12. Were those from the first or the second season? If you've only seen the very first two from day 1 and nothing else, you're in for a treat. - Marc, who wishes he had 46 new episodes of 24 waiting for him. "I'm gonna need a hacksaw." lol!
  13. Epic stuff indeed. "Whoa." - Marc, who will definitely be seeing Revolutions on opening night. 8O
  14. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is now playing in the background on my pc. The last movie I saw whole is Toy Story, which was two days ago. The last movie I saw in the theatre was Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, but I think I'll go see Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl this weekend. - Marc, who's looking forward to watching Six Feet Under again this evening.
  15. Sweet. - Marc, who has to start saving money for this now.
  16. I don't listen too often too it. But the original piece is amazing. It fits the film like a glove and breaks my heart when I hear the beginning, and then makes me smile when I hear the drums coming in. That shot of Sam and Frodo walking up the hill at the end of FotR is to me the ultimate Tolkien shot in the movie. - Marc, who will listen to his FotR CD now.
  17. I don't think John has a star. SHAME!!! - Marc Overture from Requiem For A Dream
  18. The bit in The Battle of Hoth is awesome! Too bad it was cut from the final film. - Marc Requiem For A Dream (TTT Remix)
  19. I'm wondering what Shore's going to do for the complete releases of the LotR movies. He's said that there'll definitely complete releases of all three scores once RotK's finished, but I'm wondering what he's going to do with the stuff from the EE, how it's going to be placed on the discs. In the Bilbo's Gifts scene from the FotR EE, the same music is heard, but it's newly recorded, and I think a little differently orchestrated, and it flows straight into the new music for the departure from Rivendell. There's still some great LotR cues out there. - Marc, who watched Toy Story this afternoon and wanted to watch Jurassic Park after that, but didn't have enough time left. Requiem For A Dream (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Remix)
  20. I didn't notice the edits in the film, but there are many on the album. - Marc Howard Shore - Foundations Of Stone from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (OST)
  21. Isn't this old news? http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/420/420975p1.html - Marc, who has never seen any of the Alien films. James Horner Falkirk from Braveheart
  22. Yes, I'm waiting for Finding Nemo as well. But not as eagerly as LotR: RotK. - Marc, who thinks it's absolutely rediculous an obvious summer film will come out here in November.
  23. Two years ago, a read every little bit of news about the Matrix sequels I could find. I couldn't wait for these movies, I went nuts. Now - although I was very excited to see Reloaded on opening night - I don't really care for these movies. I'm dying to see The Return of the King. Some people may not like the movies, but anyone with half a brain can't deny that we're living through cinema history here. IMO, this is easily the biggest thing since Star Wars (1977). Sure, there are some moneygrubbing gits who will do anything to be associated with these movies, but if you just look at the films themselves, you will see that Peter Jackson has truly captured the spirit of Tolkien. I dare anyone to try and come up with the same result as he and his team did. Kudos to PJ. - Marc James Horner - The Secret Wedding from Braveheart (OST)
  24. Er... yeah, that's the part I meant. It's track 7 on the soundtrack. - Marc, who will listen to it now.
  25. And what about the piano at the beginning of the End Credits to Jurassic Park? I love the way the Theme is delicately played and the whole orchestra slowly comes into play for a last reprise before the fade out. Randy Newman - On The Move from Toy Story
