  1. Is that the music that was in the trailer? I like that one. - Marc, who isn't really good at spotting ripoffs.
  2. I don't know. I have only been following William's work actively for the past year, ever since the trailer of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone came out. There haven't been much surprising works since, but I was surprised to see that he had worked with Ron Howard on Far and Away (that was a Ron Howard film, wasn't it?). I was also surprised that he did The Towering Inferno, of which we had a bootleg tape lying around somewhere, but which I never watched because the pan & scan was absent; the opening credits can't be read, and the elevator scene at the beginning was one nose talking to the other. I never got past that, and only saw the movie for the first time this morning, because I taped it last night from TV. I was also surprised to find that Williams had been involved in a film adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof. And even more surprising, that he had won an Oscar for it. So I guess my surprises weren't so much things that struck me when I heard Williams was going to do a movie, it was about what he already HAD done. Ah, how ignorant and naive I was... - Marc
  3. Well, now that this one appeared, I thought it wouldn't matter anymore, but now that I have some encouragement... IF I ever write it, it'll probably be an analysis of the OST release, with a possible follow-up about the stuff that's left in the movie. It won't be as technically advanced as this one either, since I don't really know that stuff, let alone be able to write about it in English. And I'm going away soon, and I'm working on other things too (just 15 more minutes of TTT to transcribe). I don't know. But thanks for that comment. - Marc, who will take his PS CD with him to Crete and might just write his bit there. Hmm...
  4. AWESOME! - Marc, downloading now! EDIT: I'm turning this into one post, because I'm so friggin' excited I can't stop posting and don't want to flood the board with my three-word stuff. I think the server might be a bit busy. Can't get through. Dang. - Marc, who really really really wants to see this. It's coming... It's coming... - Marc, shaking in his seat. It's here. - Marc. COOOL!!! Looks like a bit of the preview that'll be on the TTT DVD. - Marc, still drooling. Oh boy. I'm gonna have a hard time transcribing this movie... - Marc, who will watch this bit over and over and over and over again. I was just in time. New Line has asked TORn to remove the links and so they did. Thanks for the heads up, Marian! By the way, what happened to your avatar of the esteemed professor Tolkien? - Marc, who is putting a lock on his file.
  5. I agree with a lot of what has been said before. Writing music for film is completely different from writing an orchestral piece, let alone the way orchestral music was written 100 or more years ago. By the way, anyone, academic professor or not, who tells me themes like the Force theme or Han and Leia's theme are not powerfull just looses any credibility with me. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is. - Marc
  6. I never saw it as a competition. But you bring up good points, Joe, that I had not thought of. Then again, the third film might be a let-down too. I honestly DON'T KNOW. Can't wait for a trailer though. - Marc
  7. Oldman looks cool. I've got a feeling Cuarón is going to make this so much better than the family-friendly Columbus. - Marc
  8. Exactly. The picture did not represent the way Sirius Black would look in the film. - Marc Star Trek: The Next Generation Main Title from TV
  9. This thread is funny. - Marc, who is registered as "Billy_J_Towner" over at IMDB.
  10. Exactly. I never thought of Cameron as one of the brilliant filmmakers of the last two decades, but after seeing T3, I have greater respect for him. It just shows that you usually just notice things earlier when they're done wrong, whereas when something is good, it just flows, and doesn't stand out within the movie itself. - Marc, who hopes this is clear.
  11. Indeed. Last Crusade was in bright daylight, so artefacts like black lines around the planes turn up faster than they would at night. Also, I think the plane sequence in LC was more complex, with wilder camera moves and more things going on, whereas in comparison, I think the sequence in Always was relatively simple. - Marc, who watched Always for the first time last night, just for the music, and found it to be a typical "Net 5 movie". I think my fellow Dutchies will understand.
  12. I don't think it ever was in the movie. And rightly so. It just slows things down. I assume you're revering to the scene below? - Marc
  13. Damn, this movie was loud! Whoa, you've got to love that whole massive truck chase. Smashtacular, baby! But still, for some reason, I couldn't really care about the characters being killed or not. I guess it's because you know neither John nor Kate can die. In T1, there was Reese, who could be killed (and did), in T2, Sarah could be killed, but in T3, none of the main characters seemed to be in danger, really. I also don't like how the T-X was so indistructible. Only Arnold could blow her up. I guess I really missed Sarah Connor in this one. And why the hell did she die of lieukemia (sp?)?! WTF was that? Sarah Connor does not die of some goddamn desease! But something has been bothering me, too. John Connor said that when he was 13, the machines tried to kill him. Let's do some math: The Terminator was set in 1984. Assuming it was somewhere in the early months of the year, Sarah could pregnant, and either had John just before the end of the year, or in the early months of 1985. Terminator 2: Judgment Day takes place in the summer (or probably a sunny weekend), 13 years after that. If John was born in late '84, or early '85. The summer where he'd be 13, would be in 1998 about nine months after Judgment Day... Weird. Also, if this is more than 10 years after, it would take place in about 2008 to 2010. It was very 2003 for that, wasn't it. Another aspect that sort of bothered me was the blatant Nokia product placement. I don't mind when real products are used. They enhance the sense of reality. But WHY does everyone always use the latest and newest stuff? Perhaps the development stopped between 2003 and 2009. But those robots were friggin' awesome! Damn, if I could pick one person in the movie business to spend a day with, being led around his work, I would pick Stan Winston. This guy is a genius!!! Those T1's kicked ass! Arnold was great. I loved the sunglasses gag after the Ladies' Night. Great stuff. All in all, a good popcorn flick, but miles behind the classic T2, which in my opinion is still the best (and a classic case of how CGI CAN enhance a film). Another funny anecdote: as always, I was the last person left in the theatre, waiting for the end credits to finish. It was a late showing, so it was about 23:45. I sat for a while in the empty theatre, waiting for the credits. Then, one of the guys working there and (I'm guessing) the manager or someone, came in to see if everyone was gone. I waved at them with a weak smile. Some talk back and forth between the two and they went away. The credits were now up to the "The producers would like to thank:" list, so I'm guessing it was about 15 seconds more. Suddenly, a title card with "Even geduld a.u.b." (Please hold) came up and the lights went on. Not feeling like waiting for just 15 seconds more film, I left. Outside, I was silently walked to the door, which had already been locked (!) and I was left out, without a word, but a polite smile from my side. Right... I guess they finally had someone in there who enjoyed every second of watching a movie. I bet they didn't see that coming. - Marc, who thought the experience was funny, but a bit offending too.
  14. Er... didn't these already come with the Special Collector's Boxset Limited Edition or something of Jurassic Park and The Lost World together? As far as I know, these are just the same as the OST, only with different artwork. - Marc
  15. Did we not have a JWFan top 10 for this? Well, anyway TESB is my favorite, followed by Jaws and E.T. - Marc
  16. Reissues? Screw that! I want COMPLETE SCORES FOR ALL THREE FILMS!!! Releasing an incomplete score after 22 years is just foolish. They already missed the change of a complete release for E.T. - Marc, who only just realized that Raiders is 22 years old. Whoa. 8O From Russia With Love from From Russia With Love
  17. That sounds cool, man. Exactly what are you doing for the score, because I 'seem to have missed your name over at IMDB. - Marc, who is glad for you.
  18. I don't think there's any competition here. The Empire Strikes Back hands down. Best. Score. Ever. - Marc, who obviously loves TESB.
  19. I don't think you NEED a CGI Yoda to make the character look real, except of course for those fight scenes, which would have been impossible to do with a puppet. But I always felt that because there's no real-life reference for a three foot green guy with pointy ears and claw-like feet, it doesn't really have to look like a living, breathing creature. Sure, it has to has small nuances to make you forget your watching a puppet, but Frank Oz is one fine puppeteer and knows how to do those things. The way the puppet moves is just a part of the character. That just becomes your reference for how a creature like that moves. - Marc Jewish Town (Krakow Ghetto - Winter '41) from Schindler's List
  20. I like the Love Theme, for its melody, but what annoys me, is that it still has a bit of a bombastic quality. With even the love theme being a bit pompous, I find Superman to be just a bit too loud to really enjoy it. - Marc, who thinks the alternate Main Title March with the brass love theme kicks ass anyway.
  21. I'm actually thinking of doing an analysis of the soundtrack. I've got some rough things on paper already, but I think it's going to be difficult, since I don't know a lot of technical terms, especially not in English, and I've never done something like this before. It may take me a week, it may take me a month, or I may never finish it. But when I do, you'll be able to find it here in this thread. I think it's going to be fun to do, but it'll mostly be something I do for myself. - Marc
