  1. So you think I can buy an American blu ray player and lock it to region B, so I can use it to play UK discs (and keep my main blu ray player for region A)? That would be a solution I could live with.
  2. I'm sure this question has already been asked and answered somewhere in the 100 previous pages of this thread, but to save me the weeks of trawling through them, can anyone answer me this? I live in the USA, and I want to be able to play region B (British) blu rays so I can watch them on my Samsung HD TV. How can I do this? I am particularly interested in the new UK blu ray releases of older David Attenborough shows like Life on Earth, and Trials of Life, which aren't available in the US format. Is there such a thing as a region free blu ray player that doesn't lose quality in the conversion? Or if the worst comes to the worst is it possible to buy a British blu ray player in the UK that will work on my US TV? Any help would be much appreciated.
  3. I already have three different Home Alone 2 CDs, including the VS one. Really not sure I need another.
  4. I voted Turnips, surely the Blackadder option?
  5. That is fantastic! We never owned this album, but I seem to remember that every Christmas throughout the early 80s my Mum got the latest Angela Rippon "Shape Up and Dance" album, and the latest Richard Baker "These You Have Loved" album. Aaaah, nostalgic times.
  6. Absolutely. It's all pretty straightforward, no shifting or awkward fingerings. You need to add a slur between the G and F in the second measure though.
  7. The Ballroom Scene from Witches of Eastwick has to be close to the top of my list. I can find many more, but that one I didn't even have to think about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggFWbJ7Q0Mg
  8. You mean titles? I especially like the style of animation like in these films: -Snow Queen (1957) -The Scarlet Flower (1952) (this is the tale of Beauty and the Beast) -The Snow Maiden (1952) -Tale of the Dead Princess and Seven Knights (1951) -12 months (1956) -The Frog Princess (1954) -The Enchanted Boy (1955) etc.. For Russian animation you really can't beat the films of Yuri Norstein. The Hedgehog in the Fog and (especially) The Tale of Tales are both fantastic. In fact Tale of Tales is a close contender for my favourite animated film of all time.
  9. Christmas classics always seem to be black and white for me. My absolute favourites are the original Miracle on 34th Street, Scrooge (with Alistair Sim - my all time favourite Christmas film), and of course It's a Wonderful Life. In fact the only colour Christmas films that I like to watch every year are The Snowman, The Muppets Christmas Carol, and the wonderful BBC TV series from 1984 The Box of Delights.
  10. yes you should, you should contact their help line. Pixie if he didn't make a valid attempt then he should try at least once. A reply to an email on another subject is bound to go unnoticed. That's why they have a Help desk. I didn't notice that the original e-mail was tagged onto an old subject. You're right of course.
  11. Don't push it. This is their fault not yours. If they don't reply to your original e-mail then they really dropped the ball. In which case I'd put the discs away somewhere safe for a year. After which if still no response, they're yours.
  12. Not sure. This is the version I have (on London, or Decca depending on which country you're in...)http://www.amazon.com/Rachmaninov-Symphonies-Sergey/dp/B0000042HY/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1354898026&sr=1-2&keywords=rachmaninov+ashkenazy
  13. I love the three-disc set of the complete Rachmaninov symphonies conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy. It also includes Symphonic Dances, Isle of the Dead, and The Bells. Best recording of Symphonic Dances I've heard.
  14. The first six pitches of the phrase are identical, and the rhythm of the entire 10-note phrase is identical. It definitely jumps out at me as being the Battlestar theme. I am sure it's probably a coincidence, or maybe the theme was rattling around in Johnny's subconscious when he was composing TPM. I am 100% sure it is not intentional though.
  15. It wouldn't surprise me if they let you keep them. It's their error, and they shouldn't expect you to go to the trouble of returning them. They certainly can't charge you for them if you don't return them, as you never ordered the discs in the first place, therefore you have no legal obligation to pay for them. If they do request you return them, Amazon should physically mail a return-paid packing box to you so you don't have to go out and buy one. You did the right thing informing Amazon, because at least they can get a replacement package off to the correct address.
  16. Nice job Thor. From your comments it looks like it was "workman Williams" who wrote these scores, rather than the brilliant artist who would emerge a few years later; a genius in the making, still learning his trade. I'd be interested in hearing whatever decent rips you are able to make.
  17. You are only angry because you know I speak the truth. You just don't want to admit it to yourself.
  18. John Carter was bloody awful. The worst film I've seen in a long time. A film completely devoid of atmosphere, pacing, and interest. I couldn't wait for it to end. Anyone defending this piece of crap makes me despair for the future of film-making. Cloud Atlas had its faults, but ultimately it was a hugely entertaining film.
  19. When I did the Indy trilogy back in 1999 or so I ended up with a headache for most of the Last Crusade. I think 5 hours is my cut-off.
  20. My wife can't do 3D (her eyes just start streaming!) so we'll be seeing it in 2D. Can't say I'm all that disappointed. 3D is overrated, and can be hugely distracting.
  21. Surely he wouldn't have any emotions about it one way or the other.
