Label Threads The Official Quartet Records Thread
pixie_twinkle replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
I completely agree. I sent them numerous e-mails and never once received a response, or even acknowledgement. At least I did receive the CD, but I'd have got it quicker and cheaper if I'd ordered it from SAE instead. -
Coolest ad I've see in quite some time.

The robot from Short Circuit, Kitt, Data, "Robot" from Lost in Space, Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet. -
Just preordered Brazil (Criterion) for twenty bucks from Amazon. Nice one!

You're welcome. I've been following these wonderful CD releases since Dutton Vocalion started issuing them a couple of years ago. Like you, I've been a fan of Geoff Love since the mid-late 70s.

I'm not surprised at that crazy price. I'm still happy with the $150 I paid for it. I've been watching it for two months now (8 movies so far), one movie a week with friends. Great stuff!

Picked up Alien Anthology for 19.99 from Best Buy, along with Final Destination 5 for 7.99.

What Is Your Favorite Non-Shore Middle-Earth Score?
pixie_twinkle replied to Faleel's topic in Tolkien Central
Absolutely. I love this score. I have the CD and the two-record vinyl set. Beautiful artwork, and a real "English" feel to the themes. I much prefer this score to any of the Shore scores. -

I loved the first Tintin. Can't wait for the sequel. Fingers crossed it happens.- 465 replies

Thanks for the link, MSM. Jamie, I assume you're English then , if Geoff Love is a part of your childhood like mine. Pretty sure his albums were only available in the UK, but then who knows.

Do you have Vertigo? No, I only live round the corner. Boom boom!

What album is that on?
-
At last! I've been waiting for these two albums to get reissued unedited on CD for a long time! Dutton Vocalion announces release of Star Wars and Other Space Themes, coupled with Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Other Disco Galactic Themes. I got both these albums for Christmas 1978, and played the crap out of them. In fact I would go so far as to say these two albums helped get me interested in film scores. Although the link doesn't mention it, apparently (according to their catalogue) this is to be a complete and unedited 2-CD set. http://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=CDSML8497

Is this a case of thread imitating thread?

And you are unanimous in this? Hand me the nails!

How can something be "almost similar"? (Yes, I'm being pedantic!)
-
Yes. I may find his more recent fare to be uninspired, but that doesn't come close to undermining the wealth of phenomenal music he put out in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Shore's The Lord of the Rings scores are ridiculously overrated.
-
I'm seeing an Arnold theme here.

Do scores need melody to be successful?
pixie_twinkle replied to Admiral Holdo's topic in General Discussion
A little comfort in dark times can be a wonderful thing. Like a stream of bat's piss, it shines out like a shaft of light when all around is dark.
