Along with this link. Eh? I got totally screwed when ordering from them in the past. Cost me $26 for a really crappy sounding version of The 'Burbs. It's all 33 tracks, but one of the cues was faulty on both copies they sent me. In different ways on both discs of course, just to make it fancy. I tried telling them that the second one didn't play right either, but the guy might as well have said, "Me no speaka English," considering how lame his attempt to feign ignorance was. In short, Rarescores is run by scam artists. If I'd read this thread sooner I could have warned ya. Sorry.

That's funnier than it should be. - Goldsmithfan, who doesn't watch soap operas, but thinks Eden Riegel (who he saw whilst his mother was watching her favorite soap) is quite a fox.

Who likes the concert version of Sayuri's Theme?

List I found of 100 Greatest Film Scores

Yeah, but any list that puts The Omen above everything else he's done is flawed. -
So what's Spider-Man 3 gonna be like?

"So what's Spider-Man 3 gonna be like?" In a word: cartoonish. -
I completely forgot I posted anything in this thread until I spotted it again. I'm glad I could help!

Is it me, or are these weird prizes for score fans?
Goldsmithfan replied to Goldsmithfan's topic in General Discussion
Its a cheap promo comp. What did you expect - A private invite to Spiderman 4's scoring sessions? It's a soundtrack website. They'll usually at least give away the score (sometimes autographed) along with a poster and/or something else that's at least interesting. Now they've sunk to "Music from and inspired by" and some toys. Gimme a break. -
Don't you think it would sound a little odd if it wasn't from Star Wars? Possibly, but it's not like I want a whole other section to end the piece with. I just need a two to four note section to end it with a bang. Would anything from the finale of "The Droid Battle" (from the OST) work?

I'm illiterate, hel-lo-oh!

Fine then you poop heads! Don't reply to a thing I post. I don't care anymore! As far as I'm concerned, we're through!!!! All I need is my bong. My bong is my only friend! And P.S: I faked every orgasm.

I agree. He's on SNL now and he kind of looks like a teenage Harrison Ford I guess that why they picked him to act in the Indiana Jones IV, if he has been offered... According to the E! network, LaBeouf has been confirmed! Just how reliable is this "update" from E! though?

Who else loves it!? The beginning is nice and creates a good atmosphere, but the "TRONaction" bit is when it really takes off. Who would have thought that a three-note motive could become so great through repitition? The way it builds and builds upon those damn three notes (and not annoyingly) is wonderful. I wish Carlos had gotten more diverse scoring projects after this.

wow relax max I don't have everything but I consider my self a film music fan. I couldn't compete with these guys here but I still love this kind of music and collect as much as I can. I was really just joking about the whole "failure" thing, but I appreciate the Flight of the Navigator reference! I'm not out to keep up with anyone, but I really liked The Exorcist and Taxi Driver so I wanted to get people's idea of what I should follow them up with.

Thanks to everyone for your reccomentdations. Or if you just left comments that's cool too. I never knew they could send you to Ban-a-Pente for not having enough Schifrin or Herrmann. Kinda scares me really.
-
Well everyone, I've been living a lie. I act like I'm a true fan of film scores, a fairly knowledgeable one at that, but I'm really a phony. Ya see, I'm really lacking in the Schifrin and Herrmann areas. Here's a list of all of the Schifrin scores I have: The Exorcist (the rejected bits on the 25th anniversary CD) And here's a list containing all of the Herrmann scores I have: Taxi Driver SEE! I'm a total douche! I need help! What I really need are some reccomendations. I'll probably sound like an idiot saying this, but I'm not a big fan of Schifrin's "bwucka-bwucka-bwow-wow" guitar type scores. They don't settle well with me. I do, however like his melodic style when it's not so "bwucka-bwucka". I plan on getting Caveman, but I don't recall ever having heard a serious Schifrin score that sounded anything like his score for The Exorcist. If there is one, I'd love to have it. [Which brings up the question, "Why haven't they recorded ALL of what he wrote for The Exorcist instead of leaving us hanging with the 13 or so minutes on the 25th annivesary rerelease?"] Anyway, I'm expecting a thrashing for this, but I had to be honest and ask for some guidance. I know Vertigo and North by Northwest are probably going to be mentioned in the near future . . . along with Psycho.

Was Williams a better action music writer than Goldsmith?
Goldsmithfan replied to Quintus's topic in General Discussion
Not to quibble, but you said (referring to Goldsmith's action music), "a lot of it being written for Star Trek: The Motion Picture." That makes it sound like an action-oriented score. -
Was Williams a better action music writer than Goldsmith?
Goldsmithfan replied to Quintus's topic in General Discussion
I really hope that statement isn't serious. I wouldn't call that an action score at all. If it is, it's one of the tamest ever. Comparing Goldsmith to Williams, especially with regard to their action music, is just going to cause disagreements. Stylistically, they're very very different. Williams' material for action scenes tends to glorify and romanticize the images on screen and makes the scene feel pretty fun. (This isn't true for everything of course, but much of his action music is "fun"). Goldsmith, on the other hand, brought out the raw emotion of what the characters would be feeling during the action, so it sounds much more serious and down in the dirt. You're more likely to think, "We're all gonna die!" during a Goldsmith action cue than you are during something like, as was mentioned, The Asteroid Field. There are exceptions to both of course. The first part of The Duel is naturally very oppressive and powerful, without having that "fun" sound to it. And in Legend Goldsmith wrote some very romanticized and heroic brass material for Darkness Fails. There are sections that are very swashbuckling and quite out of character. It's not a matter of "Who's better?" but more a matter of which style you like more. That's my take on it anyway. -
I hadn't thought about it quite like that. That phrasing made me poop in my pants just a little.
-
That's got to be an April Fools' Day joke. I mean, c'mon! You can't talk about Religion, Politics or . . . Star Wars! Oops. Did it again. Allow me to amend my previous statement. You can't talk about R______n, P______s, or . . . S__r W__s!

Ahem?!?

Those silly brits and their stupid lists!

What about James Cameron?!? . . . Pre-Titanic. -
It wasn't nominated because it used previously-established themes?!? I hadn't heard that before. Of course, I really didn't look into film music matters that often in 2002/2003. The academy is full of it! And by "it", I mean shit. Am I the only one who remembers those three movies (in the same series) that were nominated back-to-back-to-back and had signifcant overlapping themes? What were those films called again? Ohhhhh . . . That's right. The Star Wars trilogy!!! Bunch of hypocrites.

Blown up sir! Or maybe they were with him in Peru (at the beginning of Raiders) and died on the way to "The Idol's Temple" and that's why he seems so very pissed off at the beginning of that movie. Or maybe he's just constipated.
