When exactly is the release being announced anyway?

If you don't listen to JW for a time . . .

I understood the initial post perfectly, but it was my phrasing that was at fault. I should have added that diversification of the composers I listen to helped me to not get Goldsmithwithdrawl. -

Exactly! A lot of you forget there are other scores by other composers you can listen to and not just John Williams 24/7. I look at scores the same way . . . more with Goldsmith than Williams. I used to be absolutely obsessed with getting all the Goldsmith material that was available, but there is so much out there that only paying attention to one composer is a huge waste of time. -
Not to turn this into a "What Varese should have released " bitching thread, but I think it would be wise if they released scores that they were originally supposed to but backed out of, for one reason or another. Dutch and Buckaroo Banzai come to mind. I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for the latter, but it's a fun little score that has much more character than many of the comedy scores coming out today, most of which seem to fall to Randy Newman or John Debney. That's not a slam on them, but we need variety! And Dutch hearkens back to the days when Silvestri was used much more often . . . for films that weren't so kid-friendly. C'mon Varese! Gimme, gimme, gimme!

This is the first time I've seen a Goldsmith CD Club release that I'm not entirely sure I want. I mean, it's good, but it's not one of the scores I've really been wanting. The meat of the score seems to sound like vintage 90's Goldsmith, but there's something fishy about the first and last tracks. The first reminds me of Matinee and something else I can't put my finger on, and the last sounds really close to The Russia House/Alien Nation. Maybe that's why Goldsmith didn't want it released? I'll probably miraculously skip this one.

I won't waste my time with this film. Not only does it look idiotic, but it's got my least favorite camera trick ever: Shot starts at normal speed then abruptly goes into super slow motion before speeding up and finishing at normal speed again. Who was the first moron to do that? But, better yet, who likes it?

The Official "Recommend A Star Trek Episode to Marc" Thread
Goldsmithfan replied to Lurker's topic in General Discussion
Ah, the war. I loved it! No, wait. I couldn't stand it. It was such a blatant (and desperate) way to clamor for more viewers. Sadly it worked. And it went in exactly the opposite direction Roddenberry had gone in. Not to mention that it just plain killed the exploration aspects of the show. -

How would sticking with DS9 alone give an accurate portrayal of the Star Trek universe? It was the least "Trek" out of all of them. It wasn't exactly about peaceful exploration. -

Can't think of many offhand. There are sooooooooo many whose titles I don't know. "Clues" (TNG) "The Offspring" (TNG) "The Perfect Mate" (TNG) "Brothers" (TNG) One of my all time favorites. Ron Jones' score is brilliant too! "Shuttlepod One" (ENT) "In a Mirror, Darkly" [Parts I & II] (ENT) "Terra Prime" [Parts I & II] (ENT) "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" (TOS) Sherry Jackson. BAM! "The Paradise Syndrome" (TOS) "The 37s" (VOY) "Drone" (VOY) "Endgame" (VOY) Finale "Move Along Home" (DS9) Not a very big fan of that series AT ALL, but I found this one rather amusing. "Little Green Men" (DS9) Also pretty funny. Oh, and any of the alternate universe episodes with Kira lookin' oh-so good. I know there are tons from The Next Generation and Voyager I'm forgetting the names of. -

If I may, it was actually, "There shall be no peace, so long as Kirk lives!" -

Early in the days of Starfleet, captains gave their first officers cute little nicknames that were wholly inappropriate. "Wiggles" was the most notorious of these. By 2174, the Federation Council created a clause in all ship Captains' contracts which specifically stated that if they used any inappropriate nicknames with their inferiors, they would get an awful spanking. It seems that Picard and Pike were the only captains clever enough to get around that little mandate (How inappropriate is "Number One"?) To this day, they're known as the legendary P.P. *I'm well aware that this is the dumbest reply in history -
I wholeheartedly concur!

Last night, I was watching that lovely show The Girls Next Door. That could actually be a topic in itself, titled "Why do people watch The Girls Next Door?" Well, I occasionally watch it because it's more than dumb enough to amuse me . . . and Bridget looks quite good; if only she'd ditch the blonde. Getting back on track, the second episode last night was a Christmas one so, as you'd expect, the good ol' Christmas music popped up during the festivities. Around the last ten minutes or so material from Home Alone started popping up. At first I didn't think I was hearing what I thought I was hearing. And about one and a half seconds later I realized I was. It was pretty surprising, but at least it was a good choice of Christmas music. In fact, the only other scores I can think of right now that have a Christmassy sound to them are Die Hard and Gremlins. I think they made the right choice. This incident reminded me of other times movie music has popped up in unexpected places. Another time was when I was watching The Late Show With David Letterman. Well, I wasn't watching it so much as I was looking for a CD to listen to. Dave went into the "True Stories of Late Show Interns". To my surprise, a snippet of the Taxi Driver main title popped up along with the logo on the TV screen. My head snapped in the direction of the music, but it left as abruptly as it had come. The most random incident I can think of was on Saturday Night Live. I happened across a sketch called "Space: The Infinite Universe", which starred Jeff Goldblum and Will Ferrell (who I usually don't find all that amusing). The logo music they chose for the beginning of the sketch was none other than Goldsmith's rerecording of "Bones" from 2001: A Space Odyssey. That one struck a bizarre cord in me more than the other ones, probably because of the fact that the score had remained so obscure for so long that the last place I expected to hear it was on Saturday Night Live. Anyway, do any of you guys have stories of film music being used in unexpected places? I betcha do!

Who would have thought that I would start such lunacy with a thread that is quite pointless in the first place? I was able to listen to Lifeforce last night on the DVD player (just had to wait until the rest of the family was in bed so I'd have QUIET!). Tonight will be Tombstone . . . -

I'd rather not listen to it at all than listen to it on the computer. But, luckily, I've got a CD player to listen to the new CDs on. It's not the best, but it'll get me by until I can afford something better in the (hopefully) near future. -

He doesn't use it. Does that make him an aspiring Amish? How can he be an Amish? Amish people doesn't have any or use any modern technologies such as CD players, radios and transportation like cars or buses or trucks! They got their own culture seperated from the modern society. Not only that, but this post was put up on the Internet. <_< Although, if I remember correctly, we . . . I mean, the Amish are allowed a period of time in their teens when they're allowed to join the technological culture and decide which they wish to live with. However, if they choose to go for the tech life, they're disowned. Sometimes I wish I'd stayed on the farm. -

Well excuse a brother for being a poor honky! -
Today I just knew my latest CD order was going to arrive. I went to the mailbox and there it was. Excited, I cut the tape at the end and opened the box up. As I pulled the CDs out, I was greeted by the captivating gaze of the lovely Mathilda May. If only that had happened when I opened the door to check the mail . . . Anyway, my CD player is totally taking a dump and I don't trust it to play limited edition albums (or any pressed stuff for that matter) so I've got to wait before I get a chance to listen to Lifeforce!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I hate when that happens.

Ditto to seriously expanded!
-
The complete is too long, and officially available as an isolated score on DVD. Neil An iso score is nothing like an expanded release on CD. I'm not saying I want every little bit of music from the film, but the OST is slanted toward action. "Fed Net March" and "Dizzy's Funeral" are the only tracks that don't explode into action at some point. Sure, it's an action score, but to have more non-action cues on a legitimate release would be wonderful.

Rico, you know what to do! Do it Rico!!!! (Hmm, makes you wonder how funny that scene would have been had Schwarzenegger been in Ironside's part. He does like to say "Do it!" after all.)
-
I find the Clocktower music to be quite good as well. It actually starts with some of the best music I've heard start off an action section of a score. The bit when Doc effectively tells Marty that he's got nothing to worry about is actually surprisingly moving. Surprising for such a score. I don't find it to be weak on its own though. I think the boot seems somewhat hollow because of its lack of completeness. The material that's not on there would make it seem more fleshed-out.

The second and third definitely shat all over what was built up in the first but, to be honest, I can't watch the original anymore. They definitely should have let the first one be the last one though. It had a good ending the way it was.
