  1. Did anyone else watch this? Unfortunately, I was not at home so I couldn't record it, but I watched and it was very nice. JW spoke eloquently and seemed very pleased to be there. They closed the evening with JW conducting the finale from Candide, "Make our garden grow." Did anyone record it?
  2. I hear Prelude and Fugue in it too, having just listened to that, and I also hear Checkmate. I've been wanting to hear this - I'm so glad they put it up! edit: Kramer, I went through the LA times website and don't seem to be able to find the article there. Do you still have the link? Pretty please?
  3. <<bump>>... I just got this and it's very nice. Not as much of Williams talking as I would have liked, but I'm always thrilled to see footage of him conducting! And this is a totally superficial comment, but his "modern-day" outfit is very sharp.
  4. Rutter is fantastic. "Gloria" is wonderful, of course, but I especially love his "O Come All Ye Faithful" - gives me goosebumps every time. - SeekUYoda, female, and still lurking....
  5. "Anakin's Dark Deeds" - film version (the 3 seconds that got cut out of the ending on the album version actually do really make a big difference to me!)
  6. I love that part - it might not technically fit since there there's no Rebels yet, but it's the perfect musical "touché" for that moment. Makes me smile every time.
  7. Actually.... I've played a "brake drum" and gotten a similar sound - you need a literal brake from a car, which you strike with something metal. I think it can be called either a brake drum or an anvil.
  8. Grant "Tyrannosaurus Rex does nurture its young."
  9. Aargh! Sorry. Next line (whose line is it, anyway?) is: "These days it's a worse crime to shoot a tiger than your own parents!"
  10. I haven't seen them all, but I loved The Incredibles! One of my favorite films anyway and perhaps my current favorite non-JW score.
  11. Lex, I think? If so, then: "Remind me to thank John for a lovely weekend."
  12. Grant "The only person on my side is the bloodsucking lawyer!"
  13. Did anybody else notice how they made a fuss over Clooney's 3 nominations tonight, but not Williams, who has more than anyone else in the room? Grr. Give the man his due! Bravo to him - gracious as ever! "Hatikvah (The Hope)" - Munich, John Williams
  14. I've loved his LOTR symphony since I first heard it played ten years ago - wow! How cool that you got to go! Can we see the picture?
  15. Bought it - love it! I wish we got to hear JW play chamber music more often.
  16. Miguel, do you know in what year Williams made the comments on his Symphony? I'm being a type A and compiling everything I can get, and the year would be helpful. Thanks!
  17. That's right. I forgot to mention that the main theme is a blantant rip off from Prokofiev. Go NOW to listen to Ivan! NOW! The "Glory" theme = "Ivan's Death" Beautiful!
