  8. At first, a delightful little romp. About as far from Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Ninth Gate, and The Pianist as one can imagine. The last few tracks have represented an abrupt change in tone, however -- much closer to the Kilar I'm familiar with.
  9. As self-consciously academic as Davis's piece is, I still find it a lot more accessible than Williams's. I'm still wading my way through the latter.
  10. I got reinvigorated after the failure of After Earth. I stopped working for a year and a half. I had to dive into why it was so important for me to have number-one movies. And I never would have looked at myself in that way. I was a guy who, when I was fifteen my girlfriend cheated on me, and I decided that if I was number one, no woman would ever cheat on me. All I have to do is make sure that no one's ever better than me and I'll have the love that my heart yearns for. And I never released that and moved into a mature way of looking at the world and my artistry and love until the failure of After Earth, when I had to accept that it's not a good source of creation. Doesn't sound that pretentious to me.
  11. Finally got around to listening to this. Such a joyous work!
  12. A Streetcar Named Desire (North) The Man with the Golden Arm (Bernstein) Touch of Evil (Mancini) Taxi Driver (Herrmann)
  13. The juxtaposition of Giacchino's and Davis's notes is amusing.

  16. That description makes me think more this guy: But, yeah, having a soapbox for that long can do that to you.
