  1. Hello again, Melange. Did you bring along your Seven Years in Tibet album, by any chance?
  2. Wholly unimpressed? Even Joshua Bell's virtuosic performance proved underwhelming to you?
  3. Hey, Morn, you should read all the posts before writing yours. I did mention The Egyptian. Williams and Goldsmith working on the same score.......that would be one of the best scores..... Why do you say that?
  4. No, it's Richard El Buffoon. Stop messing up his name, Mr Cosman.
  5. Hey...you know, it's going to be fun dissecting this score and differentiating the JW and William Ross material...
  6. I'm not sure anyone could "understand" completely any of the decisions by the Academy, but I think Corigliano's score was very much deserving.
  7. It unfortunately overshadows Williams's superior masterpieces of 1998, Saving Private Ryan and Stepmom, the latter of which has gotten a bad rap from just about everyone I've talked to except for the infrequently present Dan/Director, the conspicuously absent and much-missed Roald, and the long-departed Frank Lehman.
  8. How do you know this? He has revised some of his concerto's. Very true, and he also rehashed developed "Regaining a Son" from Seven Years in Tibet for his "Elegy for Cello and Orchestra." Which was, of course, fitting, in a sense.
  9. "Tavington's Trap" was sadly reprocessed for "Anderton's Great Escape."
  10. The new Superman will surprise with urbane, jazzy charm.
  11. It's Ross doing a Williams on Williams.
  12. Minority Report's last 20 min. is, of course, far weaker, though. Actually, the endings on many of Spielberg's films are somewhat weak simply because they're so dragged out...even E.T. (which is my favorite film of all time).
  13. Are you PERFECTLY sure? Only perfect beings can reach perfection.
  14. Technically, yes that recording has better sound than the 1977 original recording of Star Wars. However, the performance on that CD lacks the passion of any of the original recordings or any of the other great re-recordings out there I couldn't agree more. What I don't like about Williams's concert arrangements in general is that he tends to slow the temp way down...(not counting "Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra") Some of his concerts can really drag when he plays long suites like "Far and Away" and "The Cowboys"..
  15. This has to be one of the most foreseeable replies I've ever read on this board. Hmmm...well, that's me, I guess. ;-) I guess I've been posting on your boards long enough... - Alan, who is glad Ricard isn't mad at him but who didn't really expect him to be anyway
  16. Joe, I am inclined to agree with you except for it being SS's greatest film. I think it is a mix of his best, with a slight but detectable hint of his worst. I think it is a popular, knee-jerk reaction to hate it, to say that it's one or one and a half acts too long, to say that it's a horrible distortion of Kubrick's ideals, or that it's SS at his most emotionally manipulative worst. I think that the popular reaction against it will die or has died. Note also that it did a whole lot better at the box office and in rental than was generally claimed, better than most films this summer are doing. I think the score is Williams' best since Schindler's List, for me marred only by the Moon Rise "techno" sequence, and presence of the vocal tracks (I don't mean to offend anyone who used them at their wedding or whatever). Erm, I think you might've missed the irony in Joe's post..
  17. And the much-vaunted Mulan owes much to Matthew Wilder's melodic gifts (in the actual score, not just the songs), although Goldsmith fans invariably overlook his contributions.
  18. I think I've forgotten what Joe thinks of A.I.. I don't think he was ever too clear about it. Care to share your always pleasant opinion with us, Joe?
  19. Chris! I agree, it's by far my favorite cue on the album, and it works so darn well in the film.
  20. Oh boy, "The Asteroid Field" in glorified "Chase Through Coruscant"-style. I can't wait.
  21. Actually, I don't like the layout. I appreciate the work Ricard and Andreas put into it, but I don't like the result. It feels very cold, distant, and the MS Sans Serif rounds out the off-putting effect. It is, yes, the tidiest the site has ever been, but it's also the most impersonal.
