    BLOODLINE (2-CD)
    Expanded Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed and Conducted by Ennio Morricone
Produced and Mastered by Chris Malone
    Liner notes by John Takis
    Limited edition of 1500 units

    Release date: 12/12/2023

Quartet Records and Paramount Pictures present an expanded and remastered 2-CD edition of 1979 Ennio Morricone’s classy thriller-drama score for Terence Young’s BLOODLINE.

Based on a best-selling novel by Sidney Sheldon, BLOODLINE mixes bizarre stories of family inheritance, control over a failing international pharmaceutical company, family business, betrayal, infidelity, murder and snuff movies! It features a cast of international stars including Audrey Hepburn, Ben Gazzara, James Mason, Romy Schneider, Omar Sharif, Irene Papas, Maurice Ronet and Gert Fröbe.

Ennio Morricone was no stranger to Terence Young (with whom he had previously worked on L'AVVENTURIERO) and the studio, having just received his first Academy-Award nomination for DAYS OF HEAVEN. Morricone offers one of his best efforts for a Hollywood film, with an unforgettable love theme performed by Edda Dell’Orso, tension cues, dramatic and violent music. The score is mainly dark and fatalistic, in a style that the Italian maestro would continue in other Hollywood adventures such as THE THING, STATE OF GRACE and BUGSY

A 47-minute soundtrack album of BLOODLINE was released in 1980 by Varèse Sarabande. The same program was later reissued in their limited CD Club in 2012. Unfortunately, the film suffered several changes in the final cut, which moved some cues from their original places and omitted several important passages. Disc 1 includes the score as it was conceived by Morricone with music never heard before, plus some delightful source pieces for party and casino sequences that appear here for the first time. Disc 2 includes the newly remixed original soundtrack album as well as numerous alternate versions and extras.

The entire collection has been mixed and mastered by Chris Malone from the 16-track masters preserved in mint condition and courtesy of Paramount Pictures. The package includes a 16-page booklet with in-depth liner notes by film music writer John Takis.

    Quartet Announces:

    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    VENOM
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Composed and Conducted by Michael Kamen
Produced and Mastered by Chris Malone
    Liner notes by Jeff Bond
    Limited edition of 1000 units

    Release date: 12/12/2023

Quartet Records, in collaboration with Aribage Limited and the Michael Kamen estate, is proud to present the premiere release of the early Michael Kamen (BRAZIL, LETHAL WEAPON, DIE HARD, LICENCE TO KILL) score for 1982 British thriller VENOM.

Directed by Piers Haggard and based on the novel by Alan Scholfield, starring Sterling Hayden, Klaus Kinski, Sarah Miles, Nicol Williamson, Susan George and Oliver Reed, VENOM tells the story of a group of international terrorists who attempt to kidnap a wealthy couple’s child. Their plan comes unstuck when a deadly Black Mamba escapes with the terrorists and several hostages trapped in the boy's London home. A tense evening is had by all as the snake creeps around the house, picking off the characters one by one.

The young Michael Kamen composed a tremendous score, one of his best and an obvious precursor to some of his future successes. In VENOM, one can hear everything from a variation of his future and celebrated theme for THE DEAD ZONE to echoes of what would later be the CONCERTO FOR SAXOPHONE AND ORCHESTRA (as well as parts he later used in ROBIN HOOD and DIE HARD 2). Kamen wisely avoided mimicry, instead imprinting the film with his distinctive voice. Using low woodwinds, low strings and muted brass, he masterfully crafted an atmospheric and personality-rich soundtrack. VENOM is a pivotal score in the composer’s filmography, not only suitably serves the film, but also foreshadows Kamen’s rapid ascent to the ranks of Hollywood’s A-list composers in the years ahead.
Performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the composer (who also orchestrated the score in its entirety), this release utilizes three reels of two-track Abbey Road mixes by Eric Tomlison and provided by the Michael Kamen estate. Upon reviewing these masters, it became apparent that editorial adjustments had been made to Kamen’s original compositions for the film. Notably, the “End Titles” music, intended as an unsettling coda, was repurposed within the body of the film. In presenting this release, we restore Michael Kamen’s music to its intended sequencing, allowing the composer to present his story arc. Bonus tracks, including “snake” motifs and drones, conclude the listening program.

This album has been meticulously produced, restored and mastered by Chris Malone. The package includes a 20-page booklet with in-depth liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond.

LOL! Three threads all at once. I guess everyone wanted to be first (and I guess you were, Amer). :D

It goes without saying that I'm content with the old releases of these, but I have to say I'm very curious about the audio restoration for both, especially JANE EYRE. The old Silva is OK, but there's definitely room for improvement in that regard. Might replace at least my iTunes version with this new one.

These have been lovingly 'future proofed' by Mike Matessino. Im sure the upgrde in quality will be worth the price of admission!! The Bonus cues and presentations are essential for die hard film music and Williams fans!

Kudos to QUARTET for bringing these back in print.

I can't believe those idiots are still mad at Goldenthal for complaining about Bates borrowing his material for 300. Seems like such a petty thing, especially now a decade and a half over, when Snyder parted ways with Bates and then WB parted with Snyder.

That is, if the actual reason for Goldenthal WB scores not being expanded is indeed that. Because I honestly find that hard to believe.

They probably have forgotten over it by now too!

    Why, pray tell?

Typical licensing issue owing to two different recordings with different ownership. MGM/UA Entertainment Company etc. ( I guess?)

Varese wanted to do this many years ago but it was way too complicated and involving time consuming legalities to sort. So, someday it may happen but Im not holding my breadth.

Its one of the reason I went ahead and sought out a copy from ebay of the OST this year.

P.S. Im culling this info from various posts across messageboards

  6. @Jay, I hope the podcast will cover the VINYL project when it was suddenly announced during the films anniversary timeline and whether its delay had something to do with further recollections on the speed etc...? im vaguely remember this...

Also it seems Williams seems to be warming up to the inclusion of songs and source music just as he did with SABRINA release. It's good sign perhaps future project will have the same approach.

Yeah same, I still remember how everything was frosted up when it arrived, but I think that set specifically was prioritised to the US buyers first or something? My concern is that I'm at work the next 3 weeks but home in the week before Christmas so I might have to change my order destination or get someone to pick it up and go in just to get it.

I was lucky. I had an aunt visiting from US to me and I had my HP set shipped directly to her. LLL made sure they shipped it super fast for me specificaly on priority and it arrived quickly before her flight.

Is there already a spreadsheet where we can compare tracklists between the previous 2 CD edition of Hook and the new one?

Agreed. I was wondering the same. It would be more like a post mortem of the previous LLL edition. I think it would be fascinating you compare and analyse the major differences between the two !

    Also:

As we are all waiting for our HOOK and other LLL orders to ship once the inventory arrives on 1st December but it's also very likely LLL will get a headstart to ship them before December 1st if the stock arrives before. Let's hope. I'm so excited..

( But It's the non US folks like me who will have to wait longer...)

  9. Basically as in STAR WARS this is is just a cataloging of ownership of the INDIANA JONES music catalogue. Once these are housed and branded they are now officially under the Disney house. So thats why its a straight forward reissue.

I was expecting this when DIAL OF DESTINY came out but we were all so taken up by its limited release that we didn't ponder enough on this possibility..until now!

This was expected to happen. Nothing new here.
