  1. Happy to learn that Monsignor is being considered for the future. Its a great score.A full C & C restoration would be welcomed.

Did anyone ask about JFK and THE TOWERING INFERNO? The last time I inquired on the subject of JFK to MM;he mentioned that he hadn't even started work on it. I think this was now nearly 2 years ago. But I'd be curious if anyone had actually asked about JFK ?

It was a great get-together in which Mike pulled back the curtain veil on his work methods and all the hassle that goes behind the scenes of restoring film

music. It was truly a showing about how much a labour of love this is.

Another very interesting thing Mike talked about is that the work he’s doing in restoring and preserving JW’s output is something that, in his perspective, needs to be done as a legacy for future generations. Preserving his work in the best and most comprehensive way possible is not because of completist’s obsession, but to leave something tangible for anyone who, 50 or 100 years from now, will want to study the music of JW and discover something new. He also said that what we’re writing today (yes, even on JWFAN boards) will be a testament to any future student who will want to research and study what was said about the music of JW when he was alive in his era. This is some that resonated a lot with me, as this is one of the goals for my own blog project I just started.

This is true. And Mike mentioned to me (in some discussion last year)  as well in that how JWFan's discussion page will be pivotal to historians later on. I think Lukas Kendall also said something familiar how our message board will be come very useful tool for researchers etc.

I'm guessing they found a second generation stereo 1/4 inch stereo downmix or something.

Very curious to find out if the OST assembly on disc 2 was recreated from scratch using the same elements as the film score presentation, or whether they found the original OST master and remastered that?

The quality difference is striking... albeit I'm comparing to YouTube clips of the previous OST release. Matessino has struck gold here. Congrats to Mike and the team at Varese on this holy grail!

From the samples it looks like a 3 channel stereo mix tape (Left, right and center). What ever magic Matessino has applied kudos to him for making it sound so good.

For some reason, I forgot for a long time that Dracula is one of the Williams/LSO collaborations. Probably because the OST CD sounded so muddy! So great to have this epic collaboration finally given its justice.

You must be real glad to have this set now. It was the grail of your collection. I'll be glad to toss out my old Varese cd.

if you and other JWFANs are in London, it would be great if you guys did some sort of a panel discussion in hotel lobby if Mike Matessino is also attending?

They've uploaded a new sample in place of that broken link. They now have For Mina in the film music presentation.

I'm not familiar with the score but whatever the sample includes it seems to have a clean opening and ending. It seems to match the opening 2:13 of the equivalent OST track, yet the overall track is 7 seconds longer in the film presentation.

I guess we can deduct that Matessino kept the chronology of the OST track (perhaps a Williams request) but added separation between the two cues, hence that track's longer runtime -- 7 seconds longer than the OST track. This means they can be separated and placed in chronological order, if preferred.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, there's a section of previously unreleased music in the sample of Dracula's Death which sounds as good as the surrounding music, so they seem to have found a pretty good source for this release.

I was actually watching the movie in its anticipation over the weekend and noticed how clear the music sounded on the DVD release (as compared to the awful muddy Varese cd). Although some cues are lost in the beginning of the movie behind the sound effects. I also noticed some cues were dialled in late which means there was indeed more music not used in the film. So I'am glad this set will address these as well,

Most eager to learn how this 'lost Ark' was resurrected and restored by our dear friend Mike Matessino. ;)

No, but it was a good representation of the score, unfortunately in muddy and distorted sound.

Remember the US cd release had two cues omitted and only the Japanese Warner release contained the full album presentation. I obtained a copy some years ago. I still play it. And on a personal note the OST was the doorway for me to soundtrackdom and John Williams way back in 1980.

A Potter trilogy set doesn't fit into this slate.

Keeping in mind that Superman and Schindler's List are probably in that mix.

Of course, I'm assuming a "title" means a single film. I don't think a trilogy of scores would be referred to as a single title.

Superman 4k blu ray is coming out in Week 1 of November. I suspect the LLL Superman set is ready to fly as a 3cd set.
