  1. Yeah because that cue was actually never used in the first movie, even though it's one of the great tracks on the CD. Just saw the movie today. I liked it but read a lot of reviews criticizing it for not being paranormal enough, looking more like a police drama rather than sci-fi. They seem to forget that what made the series so great were the relationships between the characters and the fact that many of the stories still remained believable. Like Chris Carter said a few years ago, "It's only as scary as it is real." I hope the bad reviews don't stop people from going to see it, as they need to have a case to make a third movie for December 2012, when the apocalyptic invasion is set to happen.
  2. I think American orchestras are actually BETTER than European ones! Just like at the number of concerts they're able to play. American orchestras have different performances almost every week, many nights a week. It seems European orchestras (and the Canadian ones I know from Montreal or Ottawa) need two weeks of practice for one program and they only play it once or twice.
  3. Someone should put "UK" in the subject line. I thought you were referring to Manchester, New Hampshire.
  4. So Williams didn't orchestrate "Hook" (my favorite score) himself?
  5. Fun little boucy piece! I just sampled the tracks and if I am to pick one out of the whole album this is it. I think it's the closest thing that comes to a concert piece on the album. The rest seems to be all incidental music (except the Raider's march which isn't new). The opening with the horns reminds me of the Cowboys Overture, and the fast strings sounds a little like part of Tchaikovsky's 4th. I can hear the similarities to Hook too, and maybe a little of Far and Away.
  6. I mostly like the end title music. Anyone else find that the finale sounds similar to the finale at the end of Mahler's 2nd symphony? I heard it for the first time in concert recently and thought to myself "hey it's like ID4".
  7. Yeah, it was played at Tanglewood in 2003 synched to the film, although it wasn't the entire track from the begining It started about three minutes in (the rendez-vous at the van in the park) so it lasted for 12 minutes.
  8. If he is doing the Indy sync thing then I hope the E.T. segment will be the actual film version. I don't understand the "Adventures on Earth" edit. It has less of a natural flow than the film version and runs for about the same length.
  9. Just to let you guys know the BSO has released some extra tickets for the Pops concerts. The ORCH Row A ($40 comparred to $87 for rows B and back) is now available on some of the Film Nights. You can be only inches away from Williams as I was last year! Choose ORCH 40.00 and you should see them if they are available. If not that section begins at row T.
  10. And as usual the website is overloaded...
  11. It's getting closer so I figure I'd bump this thread. Looking forward to seeing the program as I am going to this one rather than Boston.
  12. I've been going every year and they've programmed Harry Potter AGAIN! Why, after all the music that John Williams has done, has the BSO reduced his entire legacy to almost a single franchise? I won't be going to Boston this year. For Tanglewood I'm planning to go to the "Tanglewood on Parade" concert for the first time (other times have either been "Film Night" or "American Journey/Horn Concerto"). At least I'll still see John Williams there and will get to see Levine, Lockhart, Previn, and Davis as well. Anyone else disappointed that Harry Potter is the main attraction again for a JW concert?
  13. Great performance, but why did Williams use the "old" (ANH) ending instead of the new (ROTJ) one that has replaced it?
  14. Damn stuck-up elitist snob!
  15. Unfortunately some will have to "double-dip". Fox is only releasing the "Unrated" version on DVD, while the Blu-Ray version will the the PG-13 theatrical cut.
  16. Wow! That "Hook" performance in the rehearsal clip was amazing. My favorite score and I've heard this arrangement twice in Boston, but never heard it with the "swooshes" from the percussion as prominent as that. I hope it will be played at the Detroit concert that I plan on attending.
  17. The trailer version! I love the quick violins playing underneath.
  18. The first thing I told John Williams when I first met him in Boston four years ago was "It's such an honor to meet someone who will be remembered historically as another Beethoven!" Keep in mind all the great composers (such as Tchaikovsky) were dismissed by the "elite" while they were still alive but grew in acceptance over time. Think about it: are there any orchestral works by other composers in the past 50 years that could be as representative of the period than Williams? I don't think so.
  19. Got my tickets! Row O center of the hall. I usually like sitting closer for sound and atmosphere, but John Williams has seen me so many times in Boston I don't want him to think I'm "stalking" him. LOL.
  20. I was thinking of getting a ticket (never been to Chicago before), but then the price of hotels for that weekend freaked me out! Why are they doing this during the U.S. Thanksgiving Day weekend? At least for the Detroit concert in April I'll have my grandmother's place in Windsor to stay at.
  21. The fact that the only musical thing we remember from the movie is the "spider-pig" song just can't be good for Zimmer! From what I can remember, there wasn't that much music featured in the movie. I liked Zimmer's themes in Pearl Harbor, but I really think The Simpsons should have stuck with Alf Clausen for the movie.
  22. Benefit concert? I hope this doesn't mean tickets will be in the $200-300 range. I'd maybe go as I have family just across the border from there. Can anyone comment on the quality of the orchestra/hall?
  23. They played it in Boston this year and the Saturday concert was broadcast in STEREO on WCRB. Unfortunately, no one in Boston was smart enough to record it!
  24. Drax, that's not really her in "those" photos.
