  1. What bothers me is that Kaminsky's work is too contrasty. The artzy folks like that but I can't stand it. He makes blacks too black and whites too white. It isn't like that in real life! BTW, I haven't yet seen WOTW so for those who have, is it shown in the 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 aspect ratio?
  2. For those of us who have bought TPM, AOTC, ANH, ESB, and ROTJ, will there be an option (as there was with Jurassic Park) to obtain the collectable slip case when we buy ROTS?
  3. While I can easily identify when something is in 3, I often seem to mix up pieces that are in 2 or in 4. For instance, what meter were these written in: The Raiders' March, Imperial March, Superman, Midway March, March from 1941. I was told in a class that most marches were in 2 (like Stars and Stripes), but when I listen to 1941, it seems to be in 4. Can anyone enlighten me on this?
  4. That is not very usefull to us.We need a recording K.M. Then get in your car, drive about 5 hours and voila!
  5. He's a Conservative MP from Alberta. http://www.johnwilliams.ca/homepage.htm What's wierd is that there is also a Shawn Murphy as an MP from the opposite Liberal Party! http://www.shawnmurphymp.ca/
  6. Pheew. I had taped the whole thing, but was afraid the JW segment aired when the local station I was using (stupid WDIV Local 4 Detroit) pre-empted the NBC programming to show a damn local police standoff. I HATE NON-NETWORK-O&O LOCAL STATIONS!
  7. The time I'll always remember is when I was listening to the "Hook-napped" cue from "Hook", and realized that I had forgotten to pick up the $80 that I had just withdrawn from an ATM machine.
  8. After listening to all pieces, I have confirmed by disappointment with this score. I I've said earlier, there isn't a single stand-alone piece on the entire CD! Other Star Wars films have always had an original theme (Ep 1: Duel of the Fates, Anakin's Theme, Flag Parade; Ep 2: Across the Stars; Ep 4: Leia's Theme, Ep 5: Yoda's Theme, Han/Leia; Ep 6: Luke/Leia, Ewoks, etc.) It seems that the music to ROTS is too screen-specific, and there is no original theme. I guess this is what happens when a composer has 4 scores to write at the same time. I'm hoping for a new theme for WOTW at least...
  9. Well, after listening to tracks 1, 2, 3, and 15, I have to say that I am a bit upset that there doesn't seem to be a stand-alone concert piece in this. Battle of Heroes is a pain to listen to since I have the impression it keeps changing meter and tempo. It has no sense of continuity. Other problems I had with the recordings so far include the "throne room" being too slow, and the drumroll going WAY too long (4 seconds!) before the second-last chord in the finale. On the plus side, I love all the versions of The Force Theme. At least they full thing was played, unlike those annoying "teases" in TPM and AOTC (where the full thing was only played once in each).
  10. I think the Star Wars main title is in B-Flat major.
  11. Are you talking about the scene in the movie or the concert arrangement? If you're talking about the scene in the movie, it is in G-Sharp minor. If you're talking about the concert arrangement, only the beginning is in B-minor. It then goes into the flying theme in C-Sharp minor, but in the second half (the main-theme used in the end credits) is definitely in D-minor.
  12. The main theme in hook (in the end credits) is in D-minor.
  13. I'm going to be waiting either until new tickets open up (it has happened before) or until I have program details the convince me it's worth going to. If they announce a complete Star Wars Symphony, I'm there!
  14. Tanglewood is closest to Albany, NY. I'm going to wait and hope that front tickets pop up at a later date (it has happened before), since I don't think it would be worth driving down to Tanglewood for the third time to be sitting so far back, especially if half the concert will be stolen, AGAIN, by Groban.
  15. I checked last night and saw that they started selling them yesterday (Easter Sunday) morning. Since when do people do business on a holiday? Every option I seem to put in tells me "no places available". What happened? Did they all get sold out during the first day, or are they waiting to make seats available gradually?
  16. I just hope they don't invert the music in the surround channels like they did for ANH...
  17. What I don't understand is: how come Williams conducted the May 21st concert last year with the inverted string placement, but conducted the May 22nd concert with the normal placement?
  18. You could have put up an antenna and watch it over-the-air from the border stations.
  19. Wow. Great program, but I don't know if it's worth driving 4 or 5 hours, especially if Williams isn't there. Can't Williams squeeze in time for ONE concert in Boston??? If not, I think I'll save my money and get a good seat at Tanglewood.
  20. Granted, most of the estimated 18 000 people that were on the lawn for Film Night 2003 were there because of Josh Groban. I don't know how many there were last year, though. Still, I would recommend getting shed tickets, especially if you're going to be driving many hours (in my case 4) and don't want to end up watching the concert from 250 yards away in the rain...
  21. On Film Night, even lawn tickets can be sold out, as they were when I went in August 2003.
  22. Well, what we knew was that the conductor was pending. It was only recently that a non-Williams program was announced. I guess I'll see you at Tanglewood. Hopefully we'll be able to get to meet Williams to get stuff signed without being blocked by that arrogant guard we saw last year...
