  1. Boston Symphony hall from the lower balcony, stage right or stage left up close, is the best. These are less costly tickets, but you can see the whole orchestra up close better than from the floor.

I sat stage right on the first balcony last time I went to Boston and while I could see well from there, I wouldn't sit there again because the brass instruments (especially the tuba) end up being too predominant.

  2. Shall I go and sit outside Abbey Road?

If you ever run into him, ask him what's up with WotW and MoG!!!

...and ask him if he'll be able to make it to Boston this May. Also ask if he will use the occasion to premiere his new ROTS music as part of a complete Star Wars Symphony.

  3. Very often, box sets have the U.S. packaging since it's more expensive to change it. I didn't see yet what is happening with HP. I want to get the box set but want the Canadian version of the first one (for the original title), and the U.S. version of the last two (because I hate seeing a mpale leaf on something not Canadian.

I haven't previously bought the other two movies because I was waiting for a definitive set to come out. Since Williams won't be scoring the next ones, I'll stop at the first three.

  4. If they do repress the discs, I hope they also take the opportunity to fix the damn contrast problem they added to all three films. They purposely darkened the film to make the dark gray areas artificially look black. This is horrible! On screen "blacks" should NEVER be dark enough to match the black bars. It's distracting when you can't remain focussed on the actual frame. They did the same on the Episode II DVD. Ep I and the previous trilogy VHS WS tapes were OK.

  5. I agree about them being fucking liars.

If it was really a creative decision to inverse the music in the surrounds, it would have been done for all three films. According to the reviews, the problem exists only on Episode IV. Busted!

I guess they didn't want to announce their mistake just hours before the most-anticipated DVD release in history.

  6. Did everyone read Lucasfilm's statement?

"We are always impressed with how closely fans listen to the many different sound mixes we have made for the Star Wars movies over the years. It is flattering to know that, indeed, the audience is listening. Consequently, each mix comes out differently and any changes that you hear on the all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX tracks on the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set are deliberate creative decisions. We can confirm that there are no technical glitches as reported."

A DVD-mastering problem is something that I would have expected from Universal (Jurassic DTS, Back to the Future widescreen, and Schindler's List JW Filmography), but not from Fox. If they do re-press the discs, this will likely be the most expensive recall in the history of DVD, with all the people buying it tomorrow...

  7. I have a picture of when Williams came out to tell us he couldn't stay on the 21st. Unfortunately I hadn't taken it with my digital camera so I'll have to find someone with a scanner to post it. I'll show it here as soon as I can.

ps. Included in the photo is also Ren's friend making an awkward face. Stay tuned...

  8. To answer Diskolobus' question, I would say:

Arrive there early to get a seat next to Williams and if he decides to take a break, get up and request it.

I'm thinking of leaving near 3:00am to arrive there near 7:00. The concert is at 10:30am but there is a pre-hearsal talk I think at 9:30. I just hope this will be early enough...

  9. I just thought I'd bring this thread back since the Tanglewood concerts are approaching.

My boss has agreed to give me the day off on the 31st so I'll be able to go down for the rehearsal. pheew.

I want to know if any of the members that came to Boston (or any other members) are planning to attend as well.

This might be the only chance we'll ever have to see Williams rehearse with an orchestra in person.

  10. I feel that it diminishes the "value" of a potentially autographed copy if it says "distributed exclusively in Canada".

Why??? Are Canadian CDs inferior to those of our American Neighbours???

It's music to an AMERICAN movie composed by an AMERICAN composer. Canada should only have its name on its own CDs!
