  1. That's just another one of the Candian stereotypes re-enforced. Even our packaging is overly polite!

Brian99_1 - who even though Terminal is now in Quebec can't find it in New Brunswick yet

This reminds me a bit of something a comedian said when comparing the Canadian reaction when they're mad at someone:

Angry American: "I'll get my gun!"

Angry Canadian: "Oh. I'll write him a letter! That'll teach him, eh."

I still hate having different packaging for CDs in Canada. I feel that it diminishes the "value" of a potentially autographed copy if it says "distributed exclusively in Canada".

  2. I think we should all go for the morning of July 31st:

Open Rehearsal of John Williams with the BSO performing "Soundings", "Horn Concerto", and "American Journey".

Open rehearsals are only $16 and there's no reserved seating. If you show up early you can be sitting almost next to Williams. Plus we might get to hear them perform stuff more than once.

  3. For a wedding, I would have "Fawkes the Phoenix" play. It seems like an appropriate piece to dance to.

As for other events, I had suggested using the Throne Room music for the entrance at my high school graduation. Even though it would have worked magnificently well, they refused to use it because they thought it would be "too commercial".

  4. Neil-

Do you have to be there to change the lenses during trailers between flat and anamorphic or is it done automatically?

I almost felt like getting the projectionist at a local theatre (Cinema Guzzo - barf) fired when he showed a flat trailer with an anamorphic lens. You can just imagine what that looked like...

Since then I always go to a THX-certified theatre downtown Montreal (Famous Players Paramount) where such errors would never be tolerated.

  5. I'll be seeing POA in IMAX as well. I'm anxious to see what Aspect Ratio will be used.

AOTC was cropped but Matrix was kept 2.35.

Does anyone know if Cuaron filmed POA in anamorphic or Super 35? The previous films were super-35 and therefore can be opened up without losing too much. Anamorphic has a better picture quality, though. However, effects are often done in 2.35 only so they would get chopped. We'll see what they decided to do...

  6. I saw Shore doing LOTR in Montreal a few months ago and I also find his conducting to be boring. There were some highly energetic parts where he could have moved a lot more. I like conductors when they are expressive, such as Salolen, Lockhart, or Kunzel. Shore also appeared to be kind of a snobby stuck-up.

To the violinist and the hornist: have any of you two ever played under Charles Dutoit? He was conductor of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra for a long time but the musicians' union forced him to resign because he was apparently "too mean" to the musicians. Was he like that with you?

  7. I bought mine for $13.99USD at Best Buy in Vermont since I happened to be there today and I didn't want to get the edition in Canada because it says "Distributed by Warner Canada" on the packaging and the CD. Eeeeww. It's the same reason I don't buy Universal, Dreamworks, Paramount, or Disney/Touchstone DVDs in Canada. They stick a damn maple leaf on an American movie. How disgusting!

  8. That guy apparently knows how to sweet talk really well.

Did I mention I'm also a salesman for Best Buy?

He had a messy sign that made me think of hobos trying to get you to drive them from Boston to Austin. Except he got a free ORCH ticket.

I'll try to take and post a digital picture of that sign (if my dad didn't throw it out).
