DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I met up with you guys. If you looked up to the FAR end of the right balcony you might have seen me, I had a REALLY bright red shirt on and was w/ about 45 other high school kids. I couldn't even break away for 5 minutes.
You might have seen me outside before the concert begging for a ticket to get in.

Here is one of the pictures from May 22.
-
I'm in QC, Ren is in ME, Neil is in NJ, Diskobolus is in MA., I think "Ray Bradsbury" is in the northeast also. It would be easier for most of us if you would do the travelling, Hector. 8O
-
Tanglewood's much closer (only 4 hours by car).
I may be one of JW's biggest fans but not to the point of crossing the continent for a meeting.
-
Hi everyone. I'm back. It was nice to meet Ren, Neil, "Ray", Diskobolus, and others. I have some great group photos from last night, as well as one from Friday night. Unfortunately we didn't get one with Williams. 8O
Could someone please tell me what the best way to post them would be? At their lowest quality, they are about 150kb each.
We were all pretty dissapointed that Williams didn't come out last night, since he had declined to stay the night before but said he would see us the next evening (last night). We just wanted ONE group photo.
This would make a great forum question. What could John Williams do to make it up to us? I say an exclusive picnic with JWFan.net members at Tanglewood would be nice.

no a family gave him a ticket. . .he'll tell you about it when he gets home.
Me-sa-back!
I rushed down to Symphony Hall around 7:00 and started pleading to people arriving that I was looking for one ticket if they had any extras to sell. At one point I even made myself a sign (thanks to the help of Neil's pen). About 20 minutes before the concert, this nice family of four handed me a ticket ($37 orchestra) and refused to accept any payment from me. I sat at their table and had a great time. I wish I would have gotten their name so I could have sent them a thank you card but they left during "Stars and Stripes". Talk about luck.
I didn't originally plan on going to that concert since I went to the May 21st one and planned on meeting JW there. Since he was so tired from his NY trip, he only showed up for a few seconds to thank us for waiting but telling us that he couldn't stay to sign stuff and take photos. The other JWFAN members told him they would be back on the 22nd and JW said "OK. Then I'll see you then". I didn't want to miss the opportunity to see JW again so I was determined to get a ticket.
Unfortunately, JW didn't show up at all last night 8O
At least I got to sign his card. It was still a fun concert regardless, especially since someone was nice enough to give me a free ticket.

Box office sold out.
I will be at symphony hall around 7:00.
Anyone with extra ticket? I don't care where it's at as long as I get in.
-
I got one last year. The other guy got one yesterday. Is there anyone who ever got turned down in Boston? I'm a bit afraid he won't sign stuff on Friday since he'll be so tired of being at a ceremony in NYC, flying back to Boston, rehearsing, and conducting a big concert.
I know one place he doesn't give any autographs is Tanglewood, since there are too many people.
-Gotta go to sleep. I have to wake up again in 3 hours to catch my bus to Boston. I hope there are some public internet terminals over there so I can keep in touch with this forum before the concert on Friday.
-
I'll trade away my autographed Return of the King c.d. for any JW autographed c.d.For anyone interested...
K.M.
I already have the entire LOTR soundtrack trilogy box signed by Howard Shore.

Why don't you go to Boston to have your favorite JW CD signed yourself?
-
Was "Stars and Stripes Forever" also performed as an encore after the two pieces you mentioned? It's always fun to hear with JW "conducting" the audience's clapping.
Also, do they usually play the same encores on every night of each program or do they change at every concert? Is he saving a BIG surprise encore for Friday?
P.S. In the "unlisted" tributes, was Psycho part of it? It was listed in the press release but not in the program. He still did play "On Dangerous Ground", right? I'm looking forward to that piece.
I can't wait until Friday!!!

I want to have the discs themselves of Schindler's List (the one included with the DVD set with actual artwork on the CD) and E.T. 20th.
I had bought both of these CDs before the DVDs and ended up with duplicates. Therefore, I can keep them without damaging them or having to play them. For American Journey I want to have the cover signed next to the eagle.
-
Last year I told him: "Mr. Williams I came all the way from Montreal to see you. It's such an honor to meet someone who will be remembered historically as another Beethoven". He was flattered and said "Thank you. That's very kind." and he signed my Star Wars CD.
-
I'll be bringing the soundtrack discs of E.T. 20th and Schindler's List from the Collector sets to get signed. I have both CDs twice so I can prevent the signed ones from being used.
I'm thinking of maybe getting American Journey signed, just to show that he's more than just a film composer, as uninformed people tend to call him.

I couldn't resist and heard some of it. I just love the Window to the Past theme. I certainly hope to hear it performed in Boston next week.
My biggest complaint about the CD was the absence of the SWTWC theme heard in the teaser. It was much more orchestrated and had strings accompanying in the second part. It isn't on the CD. How do I get a good quality version of it without the dialogue and effects?
Also, I have to be honest and say I hated the Knight Bus, especially when stuck into the concert arrangement at the end. It just destroys the credits/medley track that would normally be my favorite.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but won't it be at 5am EDT? I don't think GMT considers daylight savings and therefore, there is only a 4 hour difference between GMT and the east coast of America during the summer.
-
That trailer has been up for a few weeks at least.
I just love the use of the end music from CoS. It's like using subliminal messaging so people who see the trailer think to themselves "must see this. must see this".
-
Well, the program seems not so bad. I'm sort of glad he's going to do "On Dangerous Ground" from Hermann. That was the piece with the metal sheets banging and the horns going crazy, right?
I'm looking forward to Far and Away and Schindler, but I hope they won't just play the main theme. I want to hear "Rememberances" too. Plus I never heard "Fiddler on the Roof" so it will be a good experience to hear his first Oscar-winning music for the first time.
The Harry Potter suite listed is exactly the same one as last year. This will be good news for the friend I'm bringing who absolutely wanted to hear Harry Potter. I just wish he could add Hedwig's Theme at the end and do new POA and Terminal music as an encore.
As for the place for us to gather, most of us are going on the 21st, right?
-
If any of you are fans of the now cancelled show "Boston Public", you might want to go to Doyle's. It's where the teachers went to hang out after school in the show. Their menu is online and is real cheap. It just seems far from Symphony Hall though.
This year I want to try out a few restaurants in Boston. At least I'll be staying 2 1/2 days this year. Last year I arrived in the morning and left in the evening after the concert (the border lady found it suspicious that I would take a round trip bus ride to Boston and only stayed a few hours). I only ate a McMuffin in the morning at McD's and a hotdog at the food court at Prudential before the concert. I couldn't really say I got the taste of Boston yet.
On another note, did anyone design tags to wear at Symphony Hall to recognize each other? Also, I think I already talked about this but I'll ask it again: Does anyone have "connections" to arrange a private meeting with John Williams on May 21st for all us jwfan.net members? Did it ever happen before?
Less than 9 days left before May 21!
-
Yeah but now I'm starting to worry that he'll be too pooped from his long stressfull day that he won't want to meet fans and sign autographs.
-
Don't worry, Dirk Brosse is a fine conductor who I'm sure will do fine.
Who??? You're kidding, right?
I just hope Johnny will manage his time so he can get back in time for the concert.
Hey I just got an idea for a meeting place for us JWFans: the arrival gate at Logan airport so we can see John Williams when he gets off the plane.
-
It says they'll present the award on May 21. Will he be in two places at once?
Now the BSO will issue a press release saying the Lockhart will be conducting the 21 concert.
Ray Barnsbury
The ceremony in New York is at 11am. Will he be able to make it back to Boston, rehearse and be ready for the 8pm concert? I sure hope so. I paid concert and bus tickets, as well as hotel fees to see John Williams.
-
Now we have Kent Nagano as director of the Montreal Symphony. He's supposed to be more daring in his programs.Hopefully he'll conduct some Williams too
K.M.
I checked the new schedule. There won't even be a single Williams piece in the new season. arrrghh! How can they be so stupid? Williams-featured concerts are always sold out so it doesn't make sense not to perform his music.
-
Well one night Tamara is the being featured on violin and the next night Brain Stokes Mitchel the special guest, so I'm gonna say they are different programs.
Tamara Smirnova is always featured in the Boston Pops. She's the concertmistress (not sure if that's a word). They probably list Ms. Smirnova because they don't know what else to list. It's like these ads for a regular TV set when they write "remote control" as a special feature.
-
As far as I can tell, the differences are extremely minor. I think this is how it goes:
Hooray for Hollywood: Hermann, Williams, Mancini
Film Night: Hermann (same), Mancini (same), singing
Now I'm glad I didn't get May 22nd tickets. May 21st should be enough.
I'm in the same situation that someone on this board mentioned. I'm going with a friend who's never been to an orchestral concert before. An all-Williams program would have been more suitable for a first experience.
-Fox fan... who's still keeping his fingers crossed for more Williams music as encores!

Thanks for the acknowledgement but I wasn't the one that brought up the honorary doctorate thing. I just took it a step further and told him how worried I was that he couldn't make it back in time for the concert. I did tell him that we were from JWfan.net and asked for a group photo though.
