  1. When I met JW and got his autograph last year, I exited on the right from the hall (floor level) but instead of turning right towards the exit, I turned left where people line-up outside a door where JW comes out of. He was so nice to shake everyone's hand and sign our stuff. I hope he'll do the same this year. We should make some jwfan.net tags to wear with our screen name so we could recognize each other... PS. I will be attending the concert on the 21st. I also expected the "Hooray" concerts to be Williams-only and was a bit disapointed by the press release. I was considering maybe getting some last minute tickets for the 22nd but from the info, it doesn't seem to be worth it. Why has JW become so fond of Hermann in the past year? If there's anything different about the 22nd, it will be less JW and more singing. I'm glad they'll be playing Far and Away and Schindler's List but I would have liked stuff from Hook, SW, HP, 1941, as well as his Oscar arrangement. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a premiere of new HP and Terminal music as an encore. Plus, the Pops always play Stars and Stripes Forever in Boston.
  2. Plus they were each released by different companies! Silence of the Lambs by Orion (later went bankrupt and bought by MGM) Hannibal by MGM Red Dragon by Universal I hate when they do that. At least Fox was smart and released ALL Star Wars films. Go Fox!
  3. Exactly, that's what I'm really hoping!!! Ray Barnsbury-who wants to open the program and read "Buckbeak's Flight" listed under the Harry Potter suite That would be euphoric... Is anyone planning on recording the concerts? I don't have appropriate equipment to do so. I think the Friday or Saturday Pops concerts are broadcast live on the classical station in Boston. Anyone in their home would be able to record it. I'm just worried he might not play new HP music for fear of having people recording it and distributing it before the CD is released. If it becomes an issue, the radio station should just air something else during POA music. I want to hear world premieres! Harry Potter 3 The Terminal
  4. I wish they would have released it earlier in the U.S. so that we could get them signed by JW in Boston. On the plus side, it'll add to the "World Premiere" feeling if the Pops play new music from HP3.
  5. I was dissapointed not to see John Williams listed in the credits. On a similar issue, one of the people who make The Simpsons mentioned something about the Raiders theme on the DVD commentary. I'll have to go check to confirm this but I think they used the real theme and had to pay a fortune. The Alf Clausen re-worked Williams music people were refering to was probably the "E.T. flying"-like theme in the episode where the dog has to go to obedience school and Lisa makes a quilt with Marge.
  6. If you care to meet me, just look for a skinny asian guy who looks like he's an MIT student. That'll be me. Would you happen to be William Hung (from American Idol) by any chance? Your description is a perfect match.
  7. I've been meaning to ask you this, Neil. If you're a guy, why do you have a girl as your avatar? Also, I went over to that "post your photo" thread but most photos aren't there (as if they've been deleted). Why is that?
  8. Try to bring this thread back to life people. JOHN WILLIAMS will be in Boston in less than a month!
  9. Howard Shore conducted this concert in Montreal in February. It's not that far from Maine... only a few hours. It was an amazing concert!
  10. I want to get either a R2 or R4 version of Titanic on DVD. It was a Fox movie, made by Fox and two thirds funded by Fox so I hate having to endure the Paramount logo on the R1 DVD.
  11. I'm hoping someone will be forced to sell their May 24th tickets with front orchestra seats. BSO says they're not available. I called the second they went on sale. They must have been pre-booked for VIPs or PBS members or something. Ever noticed that it seems to be always the same people in the audience for Evening at Pops?
  12. Did anyone get tickets to Tanglewood yet? I'm not sure if I'll be able to ditch my job like last year (I'm always scheduled to work weekends during the summer). Plus the concerts I want to attend are spread out over a week.
  13. Is there anyone here with connections that could arrange a backstage meeting with John Williams in Boston for all the fans on this forum who will be in attendance? I think it would be a great idea to do this on the 21st since that is when most of us will be attending. It would give us an opportunity of a lifetime to chat with the greatest composer that has ever walked the earth, and for us to get pictures and get stuff signed as well.
  14. Universal has always been the worse for releasing discs with mistakes. The first that comes to mind was the original DTS DVD release of Jurassic Park (the first film made with a DTS mix) in which the LFE had been mixed down so much that there was practicly to bass in the movie. Universal re-pressed the disc with a corrected audio track but didn't recall it in the stores, meaning that you would have to buy the defective one and then send it to Universal for a replacement. Also, their Back to the Future trilogy set apparently had some scenes where the widescreen video transfer was cropped from an already cropped pan & scan edition. Universal had started offering a replacement but later changed their mind.
  15. A double-sided dual layer disc. Each side holds 9 GB's of info, so a two sided disc is obviously 18 GB's. Neil - who still doesn't know what Fei taugh mo neuih is. Shouldn't a dual-sided dual-layered disc be a DVD-19? As far as I know, the number is the rounded off total amount of disc space it can hold. In this case, it would be 18.8, which is closer to 19.
  16. By the way, I think Fox can sue you for using that Vader avatar. Remember that Star Wars belongs to Fox... Hmmm. This makes me think Maybe I should make a CD compilation of all the John Williams compositions for Fox films (Star Wars series, Minority Report, Home Alone, The Fury, Towering Inferno, Paper Chase, Poseidon Adventure. There might be more but that's all I can think of.
  17. since they are competing companies, what do you think. Fox makes Reba for the WB. Fox also makes The Practice and NYPD Blue for ABC, as well as Still Standing and Yes Dear for CBS. Even though they are competing companies they still have "deals" with each other. Fox made the first Lost in Space series so I'm just wondering if they still have the production rights or if they sold them off.
  18. It's going to be on the WB? Is Fox producing it? The original series was produced by Fox but aired on CBS, while the crappy movie remake was made by New Line, a division of Warner. What company's hands is it in now? Also, is Johnny scoring?
  19. I'm also hoping he performs new HP music. Maybe a glimpse at Terminal as well... I also wish he would play Hook again (as he did last year). It's always been my favorite composition of his and 4 minutes of a 2-hour concert doesn't seem like much to ask. Anything from Star Wars would be nice. I only saw Duel of the Fates at Tanglewood this summer. Judging from the press release, it seems as if he won't perform much of his own works on the 22nd and 24th since he wants to play Hermann and Mancini stuff and half the show would be devoted to the darn vocalists. I think it will go as follows: Hooray for Hollywood: Hermann, Mancini, Williams Spring Pops: Hermann, Mancini, vocalist stealing the show. I'm glad I booked the 21st. When do program details get released? Last year I remember them being posted on johnwilliams.org long before the concerts.
  20. Does anyone know why they're not selling front orchestra tickets for May 24th?
  21. They must be overloaded with early-birds like us. When I was trying to get tickets to Tanglewood's Film Night this summer, the website gave me errors all day. When I finally got through, the Shed was SOLD OUT! I hope it won't be the case for you guys for Symphony Hall. The best thing would be to call.
  22. I don't think you'll need to record it live. On my ticket for tonight's premiere in Montreal it says "TV Taping". I don't know what it's for though. Great Performances on PBS? Les Beaux Dimanches on CBC-French? The next mega-big DVD release? There were cameras recording the autograph session but I didn't see a news logo on it and didn't hear a mention of it on the news. I think they might have been recording footage for the DVD.
  23. I got mine for May 21st! Last year when I went I was at Orchestra 102 G. This year I wanted to try 1st balcony front right A 3 and 4. From there I think I'm almost on top of the orchestra. I'm bringing a friend this year and I want her to see everything. Orchestra sounds great and you're close to JW but you can't see much behind the strings... I also wanted orchestra tickets for May 24 Evening at Pops. THEY'RE NOT SELLING THEM!!! All they have is second balcony. If you're going to go to an Evening at Pops taping, might as well be sitting somewhere where you could be seen on TV... otherwise it's just an ordinary concert with cranes going around and cameras hiding your view. Hopefully they'll become available. Anyhow. I'm off to see Howard Shore for the North American Premiere of his LOTR Symphony tonight at Salle Wilfrid Pelletier (Montreal's Symphony Hall). Orchestra 10th row (no tables). Hopefully John Williams will have a chance to come to Montreal. Howard Shore said it was one of his favorite orchestras, which is why he chose to premiere it here ahead of Columbus, London, Atlanta, and Seattle. Attn. Ren.: If you find a cheap hotel, tell me because if I eventually get tickets to May 24 and have to stay 3 or 4 nights as a result, hotels will start getting expensive...
