  1. Actually in this case the 2-D has the widest aspect ratio, though if the original 3-D was rendered in 1.85 there would likely be some of the image cut off at the top or bottom.
  2. I checked on IMDB and noticed there are THREE different aspect ratios? 1.44 for IMAX, 1.85 for Real-D 3D, and 2.39 for 35mm. Which one has the least information cut out? Is it like Avatar that they rendered everything in 1.85 and then extracted other ratios from there?
  3. The spot is terrific EXCEPT for that jarring transition on the upbeat at 0:28. I'm constantly keeping time even when listening so it really throws me off.
  4. "The greatest journey... is the one... that leads you home." That voice-over with the music gives me goosebumps of anticipation!
  5. Got mine at the store in Canada. Despite this being an "early" North American release the CD is still marked as "Made in the EU".
  6. No HMVs in Ottawa had any listed as "in stock" either so I went across the border to Archambault in Gatineau. Wasn't on the shelf but they were helpful and found one in their items to be tagged. Got to use my 10% coupon as well from being a Montreal Symphony subscriber so it came to $13.49 + tax.
  7. It doesn't mention if the movie will be available in French-only during the 2-week period. Many theatres still show the original English version of films for those of us who aren't fans of dubbing.
  8. It's official... Tintin's North American launch will be in the Province of Québec on December 9th. http://moncinema.cyberpresse.ca/nouvelles-et-critiques/nouvelles/nouvelle-cinema/16031-tintin-fera-ses-debuts-nord-americains-au-quebec.html?utm_categorieinterne=trafficdrivers&utm_contenuinterne=cyberpresse_B2_cinema_261_accueil_POS4 Anyone planning a trip to Montréal to see it 2 weeks before everyone else?
  9. What about "A New Beginning" from Minority Report?
  10. Got it today, FINALLY! I guess the delay was caused by it coming from a distribution centre in Fife, Scotland. Probably took a week to get to London to catch a flight over here. You guys in Europe probably all got it earlier due to having flights from Edinburgh or Glasgow. Now counting down the days until War Horse (which I'll definitely be picking up at HMV on the release date).
  11. Did you order it on the UK or US website? I ordered it straight from the UK website and it shipped last Saturday. Maybe Sony found out about the high number of overseas orders and requested that they no longer be fulfilled from now on.
  12. Still haven't received mine. Has anyone in North America received it yet? Hope it comes in tomorrow so I can listen to it over the weekend.
  13. People, it's great when he signs things for us and agrees to pictures, but he's never under the obligation to do it. We should respect that. The only way you can guarantee a private meeting for an autograph/photo would be to respond to the Boston Pops' pledge drives at a level of support that gives you the backstage pass (don't remember exactly if it's $1000 or so). Those are the people who get ushered up the stairs at Symphony Hall while the rest of us line up near the exit.
  14. Not very familiar with RVW's work yet, but many have compared JW's War Horse and Bot4J with him by mentioning the "string technique". Is it the sliding, multi-layered string effect that brings about this comparison?
  15. Great! So we have an opportunity to knock Dark Knight and Shrek 2 out of the Top 5. They have no business there! http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic.htm
  16. In the show's preview he played about 10 seconds from "The Reunion" track, which is the main one featured in the trailer. It wasn't aired in the actual broadcast last night.
  17. "The Homecoming" definitely sounds like a concert arrangement but the end of it sounds like it will almost certainly be tracked into the End Credits. I can already imagine being the only one left in the theatre until the very end of the piece with the cleaning crews rolling their eyes that I'm still there.
  18. Terrific flute theme in "The Homecoming". There's something magnificent about a flute in D-Major.
  19. Tintin's on the way! Got sent at 8:12AM (13:12 UK Time) today! It better NOT take 3 weeks to get here! :@ I figure it would be on a plane to Toronto Monday, clear customs Tuesday, truck to my city on Wednesday and delivered Thursday or Friday at the latest.
  20. My order from Amazon UK still hasn't left. "Dispatch estimate" October 24. I'm hoping to receive it by Friday the 28th (fingers crossed).
  21. Cool, so did you notice a string-heavy theme that resembles The Chairman's Waltz from Memoirs of a Geisha (not the main theme). If so which track is it on?
  22. No, just happened to watch the movie for the first time today and I'm always looking for some way to add to my early JW compilation.
  23. Quite the thread bump, but for those who have the CD, can you confirm that the cue appearing between 1:27:40 and 1:28:40 in the movie is featured? It is played by strings and bears a strong resemblance to the Chairman's Waltz from Geisha. Seems to be the only part of the score that caught my attention and given that the main theme was written by Hugo Winterhalter, the passage referenced above seems to be the only one I would add to my "best of" compilation.
  24. Same one on Amazon France's pre-order page. Too bad as I was hoping to order one that says "Les aventures de Tintin" given that the books were originally written in French. If they're both the same I think the UK site charges less for shipping.
