  1. Fellow JWFans, it's time for our second annual composition competition! As earlier, it's open for everyone; learned and novices. No fancy samples are needed if you don't have or want to bother with that - a midi playback is OK, or you could record your own performance. People can post their entries here when they're ready, and on 1 December I'll make a poll with each entry. So we've got a little more than a month to come up with something interesting. The rules are as follows: The piece has to be a fanfare, with a duration of minimum 20 seconds and maximum 2 minutes. The piece may be for whatever ensemble you like, or for whatever solo instrument you like. Submitting compositions already made before the announcement of the competition is not OK. However, your basic ideas may have originated earlier. The deadline is 1 December (at 23:59). Let the composing begin! UPDATE: The deadline for submission is extended by two weeks, making the new deadline at 23:59 on 15 December.
  2. !!! READ THIS BEFORE VOTING !!! Voting for the 2021 JWFan composition competition has begun! Everybody's eligible to vote, but this year you can only select one composition. It's not allowed to vote for your own composition, and if you do, both your vote and your composition will be disqualified. This poll is about the quality of the compositions, and not about the quality of the samples, however impressive. For those compositions that use crappy samples, voters are urged to listen past the samples to assess the quality of the compositions. Let the voting begin! Due to few votes, the deadline is extended until the end of 2 January, message board time. Entries (by order of submission):
  3. Voting for the 2020 JWFan composition competition has begun! Everybody's eligible to vote, even if you don't have a voter's ballot. Mail votes will not be counted. I urge all contestants to refrain from voting for themselves. Let the voting begin! Poll closes at the end of 2020. Entries (by order of submission): I think that's all, but let me know if I've forgotten someone.
  4. Fellow JWFans, let's have a friendly, informal composition competition! It's open for everyone, learned and novices, and there's only one rule: the piece has to be for one musician. No fancy samples are needed if you don't have or want to bother with that - a midi playback is OK, or you coud record your own performance. People can post their entries here when they're ready, and on 1 December I'll make a poll with each entry. So we've got a little more than a month to come up with something interesting. Let the composing begin! EDIT: Posting compositions already made before the announcement of the competition is not okay, so there's in fact two rules. Part of the challenge is to see what you can come up with during the contest period. EDIT 2: Deadline extended until 15 December. EDIT 3: Here's the poll!
