So JW has mentioned in an interview that he composes something everyday, to stay in practice... Do you think he just sits down and improvises for a little bit or does he actually write a couple pages down on sheet music, even if it is terrible?

Hey all! I rarely pop in here but just wanted to share my newest episode of "Film Music Media: All Access". A fantastic and extremely in-depth interview with John Powell at his studio. This might come a bit late in the game since the Academy Awards came and went already but Jim Svedja of KUSC Classical interviewed John Williams before the Oscars and here is the 30 minute talk they had. Also on the same site are the interviews with other three of the five Oscar nominees of 2014 and of course all the older KUSC programmes, including previous year's Oscar nominee interviews. John Williams is his humble and gracious self in the interview but what shines through very clearly during this talk is his truly deep appreciation for his colleagues, musicians and music itself. A fine listen. I am off to hear what Desplat, Price and Newman had to say!

I'm not sure if these have been posted before, i found them really interesting. The sound is horrible, but if you can endure, there's some really good stuff in here, about scoring, music, etc. For example he jokingly says at one point, he thinks movies have too much music while he's writing the music for them. Sometimes i think he's a miracle worker, and these great themes just pour out of him, but when i hear him in interviews he describes just how hard he works. To celebrate, I'm releasing never-before-seen footage of Williams remembering Raymond Scott.This amateur footage was shot by me, Jeff Winner, while Stan Warnow (Scott's son) and I interviewed John Williams at the Tanglewood estate and music venue in Lenox and Stockbridge, Massachusetts, on August 4th of 2008. Some of Stan's footage was used in the new feature-length, award-winning documentary film, "DECONSTRUCTING DAD," but this segment has never been seen before. I just spotted a very interesting interview with composer/orchestrator Conrad Pope on the Film Music Magazine's site. http://www.filmmusicmag.com/?p=8734 As always Pope is gentlemanly and very articulate about his craft and business. He is the man behind the orchestrations of some the biggest names in Hollywood, John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith among them, and a long time veteran in the business. It is always a joy to read his thoughts and I am very happy that he is getting some of the spotlight now with his score to My Week with Marilyn because he is without a doubt a talented, intelligent man of great musical spirit. Daniel Schweiger and Pope talk much besides his upcoming score for My Week with Marilyn, discussing the industry, Pope's role as an orchestrator and his experiences in the business. He also mentions Williams several times, noting for example that HP POA is in his opinion one of the most remarkable of Potter scores.
