  3. Roger has announced that Intrada will have a new release of Young Sherlock Holmes on Tuesday, April 1st (they will begin taking orders on Monday, March 31st sometime between 7-8pm EST) right here. But even better, our very own Olivier Soudé (EhTar), through the website underscores.fr, has revealed it is a 2CD set, and has the track list as well as sound samples! Here is the article, which also contains several paragraphs about the film and score. Check it out! http://www.underscores.fr/index.php/2014/03/news-young-sherlock-holmes-chez-intrada/ (Note: Scroll past the French to get to the English) Grand total time is 1:43:43 UPDATE: Intrada has now released a new 3CD version in 2019. See here! http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/24269-bruce-broughtons-young-sherlock-holmes-new-2019-3cd-intrada-edition/&do=findComment&comment=1630521
  4. The Specialized Soundtrack Market has it changed or stayed the same? For me it times have change. In 1997 when the RCA Victor Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition 2 CD Releases , The 2000 Superman The Movie Rhino Records 2 CD Release and the 8 Disc Superman The Music 1978-1988 Box Set came out those where the peak of the specialized soundtrack market. Buying CD Soundtracks and expanded soundtracks is not the same now as it was in 1997 most people are streaming or buying their music off of iTunes , Amazon Music , Google Play Music , listening to it via Spotify etc. Sure you have company's and labels like Varèse Sarabande , Intrada Records and La La Land Records who put out these Limited Edition CD Soundtrack Sets but the market for buying CDs has changed. What are your thoughts on this and what is your opinion on this?
  5. The OST CD is coming from Hollywood Records on Tuesday, April 28th, and you can pre-order it on Amazon now http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.it/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.es/dp/B00UHJ7DWW http://www.amazon.in/dp/B00UHJ7DWW
  6. Which Vangelis electronic score do you prefer; Chariots of Fire or Blade Runner? Both the scores and the films are undoubtedly iconic and great, but I personally prefer Chariots of Fire over Blade Runner, in both categories.
  7. Which film and score do you prefer; Superman: The Movie or Batman? When it comes to the films, I feel Superman: The Movie is the superior movie. For all its atmosphere and distinctive production design, Batman ultimately feels somewhat hollow. As with nearly all of Tim Burton's movies, it is a film of style over substance. I feel Keaton fails to own the role of the Caped Crusader, while Reeves completely owns the characters of both Clark Kent and Superman. The Bruce-Vicki relationship is empty and emotionally vacuous, and while Jack Nicholson's turn as the Joker is entertaining to watch, it ultimately is little more than an iconic celebrity doing his well-worn shtick in a villain costume. All this is not to say Superman is a perfect film, but it has a lot of heart, and I feel it does a lot right, arguably hitting higher highs than Batman. Both scores are excellent and undoubtedly iconic. While I concede that Williams' Superman may be the superior score, I've always preferred Elfman's Batman, which I firmly believe to be his magnum opus, and in my top ten favorite film scores.
  8. I am personally still undecided... although I may actually be leaning to the Tadlow Re-Recording. But it's great to have both! How do you guys feel?

  10. I was thinking about the famous "I'm flying" scene from Titanic and, in particular, the precise moment where the music reaches its emotional climax. On paper, you might expect the score to swell at the moment Jack and Rose kiss, but it actually reaches its emotional peak a few seconds later when Rose reaches up her hand to hold Jack's head closer. The moment becomes a lot more sensual and somehow more romantic as a result. I realise this is just intelligent, intuitive film scoring, but the timing of these things always fascinates me. (2:09) Another example off the top of my head is the final scene in Home Alone when Kevin and Old Man Marley share their moment through the window. One could score it so the music swells when Marley raises his hand in greeting, but Williams holds it for that little moment longer until Kevin returns the gesture, when both characters have completed their arcs with regards to each other. This video below actually has the alternate “O Holy Night” version of the cue too, and you can see the emotional journey is exactly the same in both pieces of music. (00:47) I’m curious to know if you can think of any other examples like this. Moments where the music could reach an emotional peak at one moment, but actually climaxes at another for a stronger emotional impact.

From a question about reuse of old themes: Presumably from a question about temp tracks....wonder if we'll be able to spot that
  17. I'm sure many have noticed the structural similarity between the first part of Bilbo's adventure and the first part of Frodo's. But what about the music? For each of the 15 choices, vote for your favorite piece of music from the Peter Jackson movies. Ignore OST vs SE differences for AUJ pieces and OST vs CR vs Rarities differences for LOTR stuff, just vote by whatever your favorite version of each piece of music is. Have fun!
  18. OK let's assume for the sake of this poll/thread that Williams is scoring the film - which themes do you think are most likely to appear in Episode 7's score? Obiviously Luke's Theme and The Force Theme will re-appear, there is NO question about that. I think after that, Princess Leia's Theme and Han and Leia's Love Theme are most likely to reappear. Williams used Princess Leia's Theme in Episode III and seems to be fond of it. He seems to have forgotten Han Solo and Leia's Love Theme entirely over the years, but I think it will finally return now. I do wonder if he will use The Rebel Fanfare as the theme for The New Republic or will write a new one. And I wonder if Duel of the Fates will have any reason to reappear. You'd think with Anakin/Vader, The Emperor, Yoda, Jabba, Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Qui-Gonn Jinn, Shmi, and Greivious all dead their themes won't reappear, but you never know - they might be re-purposed for new characters who embody their spirit. I expect a ton of new themes actually, with only minor references to the older themes. Except The Force Theme, which I'm sure will appear about as often as it did in ROTS.
  19. Doug Fake of Intrada says: http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=65806#p65806 (bolding is mine)
  20. Anyone got any theories about the "signature" piece of TFA? The equivalent of Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars or Battle of the Heroes? I'm sure the film will have at least 4 new themes, but I'd love to know what's been cooked up for the main theme.
  21. How likely is it that the LSO will continue to record the new Star Wars movies? Given that Ep. 7 has an unconfirmed release date of May 2015. Scoring would take place a few months prior like in Feb or March. Do you think the Hollywood Studio Symphony could pull this off? I guess hypothetically JW could write the music and have someone else conduct it, but I'm guessing he gets a lot of satisfaction of conducting them live. Any thoughts ? ! ADMIN NOTE: On March 21st it was officially confirmed to be in LA. http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23272&p=1105384
