  1. Anyone got any theories about the "signature" piece of TFA? The equivalent of Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars or Battle of the Heroes? I'm sure the film will have at least 4 new themes, but I'd love to know what's been cooked up for the main theme.
  2. The music at the beginning of the Korean TV spot is beautiful..I wonder if it's Williams (with synth stuff ovelays). If it's Williams I hope it's part of an awesome choral cue
  3. Post and discuss spoilers about any Star Wars film that isn't out yet here. I would recommend "light" spoilers can be discussed openly and "major" spoilers should still be behind a spoiler tag, but I'm sure it will sort itself out as time goes on by whoever wants to actually discuss this stuff. Anything seen in actual trailers, commercials, tie-in products, along with pure speculation not informed by spoiler-leaks belong in the thread for whatever movie it is. This is for stuff that isn't "supposed" to be out. Enjoy!
  4. How likely is it that the LSO will continue to record the new Star Wars movies? Given that Ep. 7 has an unconfirmed release date of May 2015. Scoring would take place a few months prior like in Feb or March. Do you think the Hollywood Studio Symphony could pull this off? I guess hypothetically JW could write the music and have someone else conduct it, but I'm guessing he gets a lot of satisfaction of conducting them live. Any thoughts ? ! ADMIN NOTE: On March 21st it was officially confirmed to be in LA. http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23272&p=1105384
  5. From the same company that posted the Falcon video with the mysterious music. Sounds a bit like Williams.

  8. On the newly published Abrams comment; While it's pretty much impossible for Abrams to be objective here, it's still cool to hear good things about the score. Still not really expecting another Empire though (nor even another Phantom) ADMIN NOTE: Video here: http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25574&p=1159598
  9. 16 Aug 2015 "The legendary London Symphony Orchestra, who you will remember recorded all previous episodes of the saga soundtracks but not the hotly anticipated forthcoming soundtrack for The Force Awakens, are still very much involved in matters relating to the galaxy far, far away. Yesterday Disney's Portfolio Creative Executive Scott Trowbridge revealed that the LSO have recorded the music for Season of the Force, to be heard in Disney Parks." More here: http://www.jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=22991
  10. Do we know if Williams is conducting any of the Force Awakens? If someone else is conducting, will that have a major effect on the outcome of the score?
  11. Of course nobody knows as of yet but if you had to hazard a guess, what direction do you think Williams will take with the Force Awakens score? From the footage so far of the film, it looks more like the originals. Do you think Williams therefore may return to his writing style that he did for the originals or do you think we will hear something more akin to the prequels and his more modern style?
  12. The Horse Doug Adams tweets: "It's being reported that Bruce Broughton has let it slip that #JohnWilliams is going to do all his own orchestrations on #StarWarsVII" "If true, that's pretty cool." "This staggered recording schedule thing may be a great boon in the day of compressed post-productions. Wonder if it'll become the new norm." http://twitter.com/dougadamsmusic This was today, not yesterday, BTW, so no April Fools I know Jason likes direct links, but I can't access Twitter from my work PC. Jason, SOURCE ME SOME TWEETZ!
  13. http://makingstarwars.net/2015/05/john-williams-to-record-some-of-the-star-wars-the-force-awakens-score-next-month/ Perhaps they'll utilize some London Symphony players like they did with Harry Potter 1 & 3... I wonder if any of it will be used in any upcoming trailers.

  15. They also published some photos of the cast, but this one I liked it better...
  16. Hello my friends , check out this arrangement I made of the Star Wars soundtrack. John Williams is a genius, this is the most beautiful melody I've ever heard . In this arrangement I use a pen to create a cello sound on guitar. click here to subscribe http://www.youtube.com/user/MrMarcosKaiser?sub_confirmation=1
  17. Hello my friends, this is my arragement for Solo Acoustic Guitar of Duel of the Fates. Enjoy Subscribe, on my channel there are many other music arrangements of John Williams Youtube link:
  18. I don't understand why the Hobbit/LotR EE are approved by fans without reservations when the SW Special Editions are viewed as a sacrilege and defile the "theatrical editions" Isn't it the same idea? Isn't Peter Jackson basically identical to George Lucas?
  19. http://metro.co.uk/2014/06/20/star-wars-episode-vii-when-will-harrison-ford-return-to-set-4769090/ Question for UK members: does this newspaper have any credibility? Sounds to me like a load of BS... UPDATE: Topic title edited to reflect actual news
  20. The AICN report was wrong, Giacchino debunked this story on his twitter! https://twitter.com/m_giacchino/status/466603039701622784 That's what Ain't It Cool News is reporting, from this article about Giacchino scoring Jurassic World (Bolding mine) http://www.aintitcool.com/node/67282 Discuss!
  21. What is everyone's opinion is regards to Williams' music in ROTJ? Does it live up to SW and ESB (or the prequels if you think those are superior scores)? Personally, I think it has some of the best musical moments in the saga, especially the music involving Luke, Vader and the Emperor towards the end of the film.
  22. We all know that there are new Star Wars films coming in the future, and we know how much the prequels managed to deteriorate the iconography of the originals. One of the things that I think defines some of this iconography and identity of the original films is the LSO, their performance, and what I believe to be the techniques with which they were recorded. There is a gritty, edginess to the sound of the orchestra, which is completely lost in the prequel recordings. The new ones just sound too smooth. Does anyone feel the same way? I wonder what kinds of techniques were used back in the 70s and 80s to achieve this; I'm not sure if it is merely an analog vs. digital debate because it sounds like there are many more things going on, perhaps close-mic-ing the instruments, I'm really not sure. Do we hope that this could be something that John Williams and JJ Abrams will care about for the 2015 film? It would seem that John Williams would be an advocate for a smoother sounding orchestra these days. Does that detract? Do we care? Does it matter? How would they go about it if they DID care? Thoughts?
