  2. So, I'm trying a new kind of show where I don't script any of it. I just ramble on about various film, TV and video music topics and play a little music. I uploaded the pilot episode today and I would really like it if you would have a listen and offer some honest feedback. Ad libbing isn't my area of expertise and I just want to make sure that this is worth continuing. Thanks. 7. BRAND NEW EPISODE! THE FLAGSHIP SHOW: LA LA LAND RECORDS PRESENTS… EPISODE ONE http://www.cinematicsound.net/la-la-land-records-presents-episode-one/ On today’s episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW, we resurrect a themed show that we started producing back in the early 2000s when this very record label was established. La La Land Records has been around since 2002 and since then we’ve produced dozens of shows dedicated exclusively to the label. We’ve also had partnerships with other labels including FILM SCORE MONTHLY, VARESE SARABANDE, KRONOS RECORDS, etc but over the years but these record label themes programs started to wane after a while. The last show dedicated solely to La La Land Records was back in June of 2012. So, today, we thought we’d give this other go. La La Land Records has kindly supplied the program with some of their more recent releases and we’ll include a score from their back catalogue as chosen by you on Twitter. On the program today you’ll hear selections from FAR AND AWAY by John Williams, SLIVER with music by Howard Shore and additional music by Christopher Young, MYSTERY MEN by Stephen Warbeck with additional music by Shirley Walker, POINT BREAK by Mark Isham, and CASPER by James Horner. Plus, we’ll pay tribute to one of the greatest guitar heroes of all time, Eddie Van Halen, who lost his battle with cancer on October 6th. We will spin the track “Respect The Wind” from TWISTER in his honour. A big thank you to MV Gerhard and Matt Verboys at La La Land Records and Tim Burden for making this show possible. ----- Other shows you might have missed FILMIC WITH LEY BRICKNELL EPISODE 4 http://www.cinematicsound.net/filmic-with-ley-bricknell-episode-4/ 1UPBEAT TOP 10 VIDEO GAMES SCORE OF 2010 PART 2 http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-1upbeat-with-eric-silver-episode-10-pt2/ THE ARCHIVE EP 24 PT2 http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-archive-with-jason-drury-episode-24-part-2/ ----- APPLE https://apple.co/2YMYnMN SPOTIFY https://open.spotify.com/episode/78RTBYtL8x2SC22k5UoNg4 MERCH STORE https://www.teepublic.com/stores/cinematic-sound-radio Enjoy! -Erik-

  10. NEW EPISODE A TRIBUTE TO JAMES HORNER: END CREDIT SUITES https://bit.ly/2Vyx2uO Sorry for the delay in getting this brand new episode out to you. We had some technical difficulties last Friday, which were resolved over the weekend. Enjoy the show. ----- In today’s program, we’ll be paying tribute once again to two-time Academy Award-winning composer James Horner. It has been five years since his tragic death and CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO once again is paying tribute to the composer by playing more of his music. Back in the 1970s, James Horner dreamt of a career as a concert composer, but it was film scoring that was to be his true calling, and it would take him 30 years to finally return to the concert hall with Pas De Deux. One can argue that Horner was always writing concert works as he broke convention by producing extended cues that retained the long-form structures observed in classical music. End Credits similarly offered Horner the opportunity to write pure music which could be enjoyed without visuals; stand-alone compositions that developed the thematic and motivic material introduced in the score, but free of any narrative, dramatic tone or tempo obligations from their cinematic counterpart. On today’s program we will be playing end credit cues composed by James Horner from such films as A BEAUTIFUL MIND, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGERS, GLORY, WHERE THE RIVER RUNS BLACK, RANSOM, ONCE UPON A FOREST, LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES and many more. 12. Hello, JWFAN! I'm sure another film music podcast is redundant on this platform, but if you're looking for more listening options, here it is!: https://audiomack.com/song/the-tens/2011-session-two 'The Tens' is a limited podcast retrospective on music composed for the movies of the 2010s! I'm James, and I co-host with my pal Kyle. We're musicians with moderate music theory knowledge, we're professional film score fans like everyone here, and we definitely do not have any strong opinions whatsoever, period, end-of-story. Come join us as we barrel through the decade year-by-year, discuss our favorites, scoff at one another for not having seen X Y or Z movie, and determine the best original and not-quite-so-original scores. Roughly one episode will be released every two weeks, and we will conclude with a 'Best-Of' episode, wherein we'll narrow down the single best score of the decade! (NOTE ON THIS EPISODE: While we plan to release episodes sequentially, the 2011 episode is being launched prior to our 2010 episode due to poor timing on our editor's part (the editor being me...I am ashamed...)
  13. UPDATE: September 9, 2019 THE FLAG SHIP SHOW: HIDDEN SOUNDTRACK GEMS http://www.cinematicsound.net/the-flag-ship-show-hidden-soundtrack-gems/ “I’m back in the saddle again” – Aerosmith It’s been seven months since I last prepared an episode of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. I apologize for those that were interested in hearing the rest of my favourite scores of 2018. I’ll most likely just publish a quick blog post with the rest of my list for those that are interested. The reasons for my absence has been well documented on social media (everything ranging from depression to anxiety to work to just basically burning out). Yes, I almost quit completely but the outpouring of support showed me that you deserved better and that I should keep this show going. First of all, I just want to thank Jason Drury, Brandon Shea-Mutala, Eric Silver, Robert Daniels, and Randy Andrews for keeping the content fresh during my absence. This isn’t the first time they’ve saved my bacon and it probably won’t be the last. Without them, this show, this site would be dead. By the way, I just published a new hosts and talents bio page. We’ve never had one so take a peek and learn a little about your favourite CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO talent. And of course, thank you, the listener for stick by me and the program. Even in my absence, you’ve managed to make 2019 a record-breaking year for downloads/listens. As it stands right now our downloads/listens is up 8% from last year. Unfortunately, our audience size has dwindled in my absence. Let’s remedy that. This show took me months to prepare but it’s finally done and I’m eager to do more. Therefore, I thought I’d present something special for you to celebrate my return to podcasting. Today you’ll hear music from albums that are a bit difficult to acquire. On the program, you are going to hear selections from hidden soundtrack gems like SLIPSTREAM (Bernstein), U-571 (Marvin), PHENOMENON (Newman), CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE (Guttman), INSPECTOR GADGET (Debney) and WHITE FANG 2: MYTH OF THE WHITE WOLF (Debney) Enjoy! ----- The show is available via iTunes, Spotify, Google Play & Stitcher http://apple.co/29zAyyL | https://spoti.fi/2PfYHPb | http://bit.ly/1ZrG6Lf | http://bit.ly/2bIQlM3 Social Networks http://www.facebook.com/cinematicsound | http://www.twitter.com/cinsoundradio Enjoy! -Erik-

  17. I couldn't find any reference to this in the forums, so here goes: if you listen to podcasts, you've got to check out the Underscore Podcast (www.underscorepodcast.com). I discovered it when its hosts did a guest spot on Christopher Coleman's also-excellent Soundcast podcast (which I discovered via @Erik Woods's spectacular and long-running Cinematic Sound Radio Show, but I digress). The show is hosted by two composer/musician brothers, Marty and Will Brueggeman, and apparently it just began this year. Their format is really unique: they spend a month of weekly podcasts discussing one film (so far, Raiders and Vertigo). They do an introductory show, then an exploration of the major themes, then a "spotting session" that analyzes the soundtrack cue by cue, culminating in a feature-length commentary track that talks you through the score in context. Between films, they cleanse the palate with a "Reel Change," a one-off discussion of a topic in film music (so far, the ostinato and the Lydian mode). They've also conducted episode-length interviews with composers Joe Kraemer and John Lunn. The brothers are musically erudite, versed in film scores and classical music and able to spout the snobbiest musical terminology while remaining utterly down-to-earth. They provide truly insightful analysis. They illustrate their points liberally with samples and repeatedly demonstrate an encyclopedic knowledge and abiding love for the medium, as well as what is obviously hours of preparation for each episode. This podcast is absolutely not to be missed. I can't wait to see what movie they spotlight next. P.S. I swear no money changed hands to elicit this review, even if it sounds like it did. The gushing is warranted!
  18. This might come a bit late in the game since the Academy Awards came and went already but Jim Svedja of KUSC Classical interviewed John Williams before the Oscars and here is the 30 minute talk they had. Also on the same site are the interviews with other three of the five Oscar nominees of 2014 and of course all the older KUSC programmes, including previous year's Oscar nominee interviews. John Williams is his humble and gracious self in the interview but what shines through very clearly during this talk is his truly deep appreciation for his colleagues, musicians and music itself. A fine listen. I am off to hear what Desplat, Price and Newman had to say!
