The OFFICIAL Indy IV Thread

Recommended Posts

Yes, I get the feeling it's going to be quite a fun ride. Unfortunately I'm also prepared for some of the worst bickering we've seen in these parts since the end of the Prequel Wars.

No Indy film could be despised as much as the prequels are.

not even by me

Well,I hope this Indy film doesn't decend to the level of Transformers or Nationnal Treasure in terms of camp or trying to insert a funny one liner every 2 seconds.

you mean like Last Crusade did...?

Ok, good. And I do like Indy sequels by the way. I don't think we're too far off on that. My opinion of them seems more negative when thinking of them in relation to Raiders, though. It's the Star Wars prequels that I'm always grilled for. I don't detest them (though the second one pushes that envelope), but I'm not salivating over them either. I like the first and third episodes in spite of their awkward points, and I'm really fascinated over the hatred for them mostly on message boards.

But to get back to the point, I'm glad this didn't escalate to places it didn't need to go. Sure, we disagree. But I often like your remarks and it would have been senseless to go that route. I understand that the manner in which I go about stating my opinions/values is often frowned upon on Boards, but I felt it appropriate to provide some bit of explanation regarding why I reacted the way I did to some of the comments

Ted

I'm genuinely glad that we boxed that nonsense off. T'was a pointless enterprise as is often the case in discussions of that nature.

Oh and we do agree on something: AOTC is easily the worst of the SW prequels. TPM is pretty entertaining in comparison. Sith was good, but its no New Hope, Empire or even Jedi. Not necessarily a bad thing as far as the prequels are concerned though.

In KOTCS are we going to hear the Love theme from ROTLA? Can someone point me to a post where this is discussed? (I'm scared of starting a new thread on account of my last one getting kidnaped)

Wow what a great question, I wish I knew the answer to that one.

Come on, Joe, TLC is so superior to those films they don't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence.

there are those here who would disagree, they just haven't gotten off the school bus yet.

Well if Marion is in it, you would think it would make some sort of cameo at least, kind of like Princess Leia's theme in Ep III. But I wouldn't expect it to have a prominent role. Great question though, Genius.

Wow, more than a page in one day!

I am extremely excited at this news, as LC was my favorite of the Indy films. People can argue that it didn't take itself seriously enough, but isn't that the whole spirit of the Indy films? You're supposed to have a good time. And anywho, LC was probably the most emotional of the trilogy (in terms of the classic Spielberg sentimental ending).

don't be silly, TOD has the most emotional ending, its quite touching for the children to be returned to their homes and it has the best end credits too

I love the ending in Last Crusade, with Indy, Henry and Salah (sp?) on their horses chatting and then riding into the sunset. What a cool ending for the trilogy.

Indeed! How Indy4's going to top something like that last image of them riding into the sunset, I don't know, but I have high hopes for it!

Let's hope they don't try and top it. Who knows, maybe it will finish with Indy's funeral, with the Raiders march playing as the coffin is lowered. If adventure has a name, it's now decomposing!

Well,Shia Lebeouf is kind of specialising in that type of camp, from what i've seen...Disturbia and Transformers

You and me both. This grows too fast that once you miss it, you can't come in and discuss anything. This is probably the first thing I've posted in here.

I always liked the ending in one of the fan scripts (or whatever it was) that was on the internet a few years ago with all of Indy's old girlfriends showing up to take him to task. Not sure I'd want this movie to end that way, but I did think it's an interesting tongue-in-cheek idea for both Indiana Jones and James Bond considering that they both have probably slept with half of the women on planet Earth.

by having him picked up in the mother ship from Close Encounters.

(Bit late, but...)

I agree that Raiders is the more rock-solid film of the original 3. But Last Crusade is still a fun movie, even with the lazy/sloppy stuff (can we say "magic bag strap", anyone?).

One thing I'm kinda hoping for... In a magazine interview back around the time of Last Crusade's release, John Williams was discussing the LC score. He spoke of how he somewhat regretted that he didn't compose the end credits using all the character themes from all three movies, Marion's Theme, Short Round's Theme, etc., as one big finale to the series. Perhaps he'll pick up on that idea for this (possibly) final film? Might be a rather nice and nostalgic end to the whole thing.

Cheers!

yeah! Spielberg should use the now unused mothership scene from CEOT3K and substitute Dreyfus with Ford

And Paramount logo -> Devil's tower...

Oh my, I quite like that idea. I quite like that idea a lot.

Possible spoiler ahead

I wonder how Jim Broadbent could be a good substitute for Denholm Elliott, if the rumors are true.

won't happen is a spoiler???

Incorrect, and don't read below unless you are absolutely 100% sure you are ok with having this movie potentially ruined for you:

Rumor is that close encounters aliens will appear in Indy IV. Hence, your post should be removed.

Genius, you know I made that up completely. Long before this movie was even greenlighted.

um...

I'm a bit curious about something...

Do we know when Williams records/recorded the score?

cause gotta say... they are playing some odd music in the vanity fair behind the scenes video on starwars.com lol... it almost sounds like battlestar galactica but a little bit more pop than BSG lol...

Weird music... lol

As a side note, we were looking at doing a recording session the first week of March in LA but it looks like there's a major hold for John Williams. Looks like all of LA's best players are on hold. Not sure if the recording is at the end of February and could go on for a little longer, or if it starts the second week of March and they wanted to have a few extra days before that just in case.

Why are they so afraid to release some more movie stills? I'd like too see more pictures before I go and see a movie.

What? You mean like this ROTFLMAO

Yes that's what I mean...every two months or so there is another picture released. Noone has seen a trailer or anything. I think this marketing campaign isn't very fan-friendly.

We also got a trailer for Prince Caspian. It went a little faster than I would've liked. I need to read the book again.

Looks like anther LotR rip-off, just like the first one. The book was SOO much better.

I'm glad. The less I know about this movie when I walk into that theatre, the better.

You're right. The producers must have a vendetta against fans! I bet they're going to release the movie in secret so none of us can see it!

But seriously, it could be damaging to the B.O. record, IMO.

I wouldn't worry. My sense is that many people are geeking out over every scrap they can get.....not a bad situation to be in. They simply want to create as much excitement through ambiguity.

I agree. And steering away from the hyperdrive overhype machine that the prequels were, especially TPM, is probably good in the long run.
