lol, your right, I don't know what any of the track titles mean, lol. But so far they sound very good. The second sample has a little hint of typical zimmer, but other then that it sounds like a very powerful score.

Well I was pleasantly surprised but I'll wait and see the movie first before to hear the whole score. Something little different from Zimmer for a change.

Oh and the title tracks were great :) Atleast they do not give away the plot. Plus there are few in Latin and that is never bad.

EDIT

If you want to hear longer clips go to Hans-Zimmer.com

Some of that reminds me strongly of "Hannibal"...

Hm, of course the soundclips are low-quality... but it sounds to me as if the orchestra (strings) are synthesized, and the choir in one track too... I really hope that is due to the low clip quality...

Hm, that second sound clip from the first track (on the Zimmer homepage) already impressed me more than all the clips on the other page... there's one person responsible who knows how to pick representative clips

They are nice.

But go to the site of the movie and click on each character, with each character there's a different piece.

I think they sound really good just hope they'll be in the movie.

I too thought the clips on that first page all sounded rather bland.

That's a judgment of the clips, not the score, obviously.

well with Zimmer the clips should give you a good idea of the entire score.

I agree... sounds TERRIBLE to me.

his last score, how non tragic,  ROTFLMAO

LOL

Nice that you are sticking with that story Joe ROTFLMAO

I don't know; it sounds rather impressive to me...

Of course; even if Zimmer had written Beethoven's Missa Solemnis for this, people would still call it bland. just because of the name Zimmer...

Oh come on Roald, Zimmer was never as bland as Mozzz...zzzart.

That coming from a man who doesn't know his Mozart from his Beethoven! No wonder you were reluctant to step foot into the classical music section in FAME. ROTFLMAO

Soundtrack.net has some longer and better quality samples....

I like...I REALLY REALLY REALLY like this...

I definitely definitely hear live instruments over electronics...which can only be good.

Welp, after listening to the longer/better samples a couple of times, I must say I've found my first soundtrack purchase of 2006. Looking forward to this one!

Why the face? He hasn't said anything there. It's very easy to write something reminiscent of Mahler.

This score seriously sticks out like a sore thumb to everyone who has criticised Zimmer in the past for reasons we all know. They don't even post anything relevant in this thread anymore. LOL Will The DaVinci Code prove to be the ultimate Zimmer-bashers' silencer?

Nah, we've had this before... every once in a while there surfaces a Zimmer score that is imaginative, decent and sounding good (and mostly insturmental :D). The man is a hack by choice, not by nature.

I think it has more to do with who's overseeing his work.... ;)

Finally someone with my opinion. He's done some good stuff IMO - Gladiator was very orchestral outside of the battle cues, Thin Red Line and Beyond Rangoon are very imaginative and different. Last Samurai was a good ethnic score, and I don't care what you guys think of The Rock - I like it, but then everyone's entitled to their opinion ;) (I'm looking at you Joe)

I like the first two tracks, and the Jade track. The rest is. :D

The Rock is a sentimental favorite of mine, first soundtrack I ever bought. I love it all. Zimmer has been talked about to death recently, and those who don't like I'm sure remain unconvinced. All I can say is, that won't stop me from enjoying him, not one least bit, not on mindless fun like The Rock, not on orchestral beauty like Hannibal, and not on anything in between the two. It's your loss, that's it.

It's the epitome of MV action music. So for most soundtracks fans, yeah, that would be pretty awful. However with non-soundtrack fans, it's one of the most popular scores ever.

This will be a summer long remembered. It will soon see the end of Zimmer. It will soon see the end of Media Ventures.

Bollocks. Gladiator was far better MV action. :P:mrgreen:

Well, The Rock is the culmination of the 90's MV style, it's pure MV and Zimmer. Gladiator enjoyed the influences of Holst and Lisa Gerrard and is less inherently trashy than The Rock. I'm not saying it's better or worse, just more high minded, in principle. You wouldn't hear a waltz within ten miles of The Rock, nor anything as "subtle" as the string elegies from Gladiator. It's power anthem, nonstop action, and with a couple of Zimmer-esque gentle themes.

Morlock- who just gave The Da Vinci Code samples a try and thinks they certainly have potential, and that they're a hell of a lot better than the non-stop synth action he expected.

Just downloaded the entire Da Vinci Code soundtrack (and I'll buy it too guys!). Gonna listen to it later.

Excited!

Well I guess I got lucky today.

First The DaVinci Code soundtrack. I really hate to tell you this guys, but Hans Zimmer's The DaVinci Code is one of the greatest soundtracks ever written. Does that sound cwazy? I know. But I just heard the whole thing and I was completely blown away by it. There's stuff on this album that is truly exceptional and words cannot really do it justice. Hear it and perhaps you'll like it as much as I do.

Second; I heard Paul Simon's new album Surprise. It IS a surprise. A big one! Simon worked together with Brain Eno (who produced U2's legendary Achtung Baby album) and the result is, well, earth shattering. It's really gratifying listening to a new album by one of my heroes that defies convention and just, uh, kicks ass. Literally. I know it's Paul Simon, but it's an amazing, modern album.

No offense Roald.

But have you recently smoked the crack that you confiscated from your students?

The film isn't out yet, you haven't seen it.

How the hell can you judge if this is a good soundtrack or not?

This is dumber then the Williams is not gonna score (enter any Spielberg film) debacle.

I know I'm gonna get flak for saying this but I too have downloaded the soundtrack to The Da Vinci Code and will listen to it later. I promise to delete it off my hard drive as soon as possible.

Gosh, yet another instant classic. We've had dozens of them in the past year, haven't we? :o

I've been listening to the score for the last hour or so - and it's got all the Zimmerisms - chopping/heavy strings and not much theme.

I'm not really sure what to make of it yet but it's all very coherent, lots of choir, some solo instrumentation and references to King Arthur and Gladiator so far. Good? Yes, instant classic? God no. Sorry Roald, but only one track so far as made me want to hit repeat.

did u guys dld it on emule or kazaa or off a torrent?

Burga - who would probably have to wait an extra month or two after the OST's release before its available here.

A torrent. And a mighty torrent at that. The mass music is simply divine...no pun intended. Sounds very like Batman Begins, Hannibal and King Arthur all rolled into one. Zimmer has lost his heart and soul in music since he did not win the Oscar for GLADIATEHER. Period! He is trying to become a more mature composer but he has a long way to go yet to catch up with the likes and John Williams and James Horner.

Of course I was just referring to the music as presented on the CD. As a stand alone listening experience it IS amazing.

Kazaa is a death trap for viruses and fake files... (so no :o)

I got it from a newsgroup (but only either paid-for access or on NTL) only yesterday.

Edit: I didn't see this coming: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../07/ncode07.xml

Edit 2: I'm also liking the score a lot more now, it needs time :)

WTF?? I lost count how many times the phrase "too tense for a very young audience" (or similar) was quoted in that article. Who the hell thinks this film is suited for a "very young audience"? Who takes his little children to see a story like this?

Do some people think that just because something is aninternational bestseller, it should be suited for everyone?

Ehhh the music is nothing special, sounds like Hannibal but with more of a religious feel to it.

I don't think the subject matter nor the tone of the film is at all suitable for kids. Under 15? Please...

I reckon they're just finding more and more ways to edit the cr@p out of the movie and diminish its significance.
