Amazing Stories! Yay!

I really love "Ghost Train". And the lyrical theme is truly beautiful. I love those "profound destiny" themes of his. And it really is related to "Anakin's Theme", as it should be. It just shows how Williams responds to these majestic ideas, of inevitable "larger than life" fates.

I can't wait to see the episode in question; it seems like a very touching Spielberg story, a sort of "Old Man's" version of "E.T."

I am fully enjoying this set, and axiously awaiting the next anthologies. I have to re-listen to "Ghost Train" because, while it was really nice, it didn't really 'grab' me the way I thought it would.

Emotionally Steef, not physically.

Some of it is great (Ghost Train, Alamo Jobe, The Doll, etc...) but I found "Gather Ye Acorns" to be very... BLAH, and "Amazing Falsworth" and "Moving Day" are just weird, and a tad annoying.

Love the Delerue stuff, however.

How come I am the only one who is still waiting for this thing?

Maybe these damn customs striked again. Intrada orders never took that long for me. :?

I don't really need this except for the alternate Main titles ,bumper #2 and Christmas Amblin logo.

I'll trade a whole Williams c.d. in MP3 of your choice to anyone who can get me MP3's of these.

Or to anyone getting this set who downloaded some of the various bootleg tracks I put online in the last year,I ask for this 1 minute of music in return.

Delerue's Dorothy and Ben is a very lovely score and I can't wait to hear the actual recording of it as compared to the Varese disc.

I think some people are going to be disappointed in Goldsmith's Boo! based on some of the hype I've been reading.

From what I heard from their audio clip, I'm not that excited. But I'm looking forward to the Newman and Broughton stuff.

No problem K.M., I will send it to you when I got it ;)

Thanks!

I am beeing quite direct in my request.I have NO plan to fall for this greedy marketing ploy.I am sure a few Williams fan will get it for this alternate main titles, and it pisses me off they did this.this means the Vol # 3 will have the same main titles as vol 1.

if they wanted to showcase the Goldsmith score they should have kept it at that.

This isn't only a Williams CD, you know... people might actually be buying it for the other music as well...

I know, but they KNOW if they put alternate titles in THIS c.d. it will sell a few more copies just for that. How do you think I feel as a Williams fan, having to buy a 30$ c.d. for 1 minute of music when they could have easily put this in vol 3.

Oh, I agree that if you're interested in Williams and only Williams, this is a poor deal. But I'm sure many Williams fans will also be interested in the Goldsmith, Delerue, Newman, Brughton, Shire, Rosenman etc.

By the way, it says "Alternate #1" - so I guess there might be a #2 on Vol. 3??

I am also interested in the other composers, but I'm still only ordering these sets for the Williams cues. Were in specialised film score geekdom territory here.

I'm not sure actually. There were ten scores on the last set, twelve on this one, that leaves 23 scores (I think), including the long scores for The Mission and the Zemeckis/Silvestri episode - that does sound like at least four volumes, actually.

This would sell well even if Williams wasn't even on the disc. With all of the other composers listed and the nostalgia value of the the series plus you throw in the fact that people have been asking for this for awhile, it doesn't matter whether Williams is on it or not.

Intrada is only doing 3 volumes. I believe Douglass Fake mentioned there would be some lesser scores left out.

As I understood, they want for sure release 3 Volumes, and maybe a fourth, depending of the sales from the first three volumes. But maybe I'm wrong...

Well, the horns at the beginning of the alternate Main Titles appear mixed slightly different, the rest is quasi identical. It sounds more like a rehearsal than a true alternate.I prefer the other one anyways.Bumper #2 is the same but in a different key.Christmas logo is cute.

Why is it greedy? Film score album releases aren't exactly booming business. Be thankful we are getting this music at all. These sets will please lots of film score fans, they are a GOOD thing. The way they are releasing them makes total business sense, and I do not blame them. Put the Williams episodes (undoubtedly the biggest selling film composer) on the first and third volumes and spread a little Williams across all three discs. I, and probably quite a few others, do not like to have gaps in a numbered set nor do I like to own a "sequel volume" without owning the original. I don't mind buying all three volumes at all and supporting these releases, there may afterall be some very good music on that second volume.

Just to let you know (from the liner notes) --

John Williams wrote three slightly different arrangements of the Amazing Stories main title theme. The most familiar one (which appears on Anthology One) was recorded as part of "The Mission" sessions in August 1985. Two earlier versions, with 20 fewer musicians, were recorded during the "Ghost Train" sessions in April. Only once - at the start of "Alamo Jobe", the third episode aired - was one of these alternate versions used, featuring a more subdued opening fanfare, a few added synthesizer shimmers and a more pronounced French horn rhythm part leading into the main theme on trumpets.

So that suggests that there will be a third version on vol 3. :music:

Volume II is fantastic. I was suprised at the tempo compared to the Varese recording with Delerue's "Dorothy & Ben". The original clocks in at 10+ minutes and the re-recording is at 15+ min. Debney took it slow.

But in vol 3 they should have used the main title from vol 1. Since it belongs to the perfotmance and orchestra of The Mission.

They should in theory, yes, but I'd rather have all the music. ;)

Anyway, I think there's some sense in putting the best-known version on the 1st volume, and saving the best (or most famous) score until last.

I wondered if anyone had any idea when Intrada's third anthology of scores from Amazing Stories is to be released. Do you think we will see it this side of Christmas or perhaps early next year? I've enjoyed listening to the first two volumes and am looking forward to the third.

Also, I have been trying to work out what scores are likely to be included. Having perused the notes from the first two volumes, it seems certain that the following will be included:

The Mission (John Williams)

Go to the Head of the Class (Alan Silvestri)

The Pumpkin Competition (John Addison)

Mirror, Mirror (Michael Kamen)

We can also expect the third version of John Williams' main titles and I guess one or two bumpers if there are any more. As Fred Steiner is mentioned in the notes in anthology one, I also think it likely that his score for Life On Death Row will be included.

What other scores do you think might be included? Does anyone already know the track listing for the third anthology? Speculate away!

Damien :)

Doug fake already confirmed that it will include The Mission, Mirror Mirror and Go To The Head Of The Class. He also confirmed that there will be no brad fiedel episode score.

They are searching for missing master tapes of Elfman's Family Dog episode which is causing the hold up (right now they are not sure if they can include it) and I guess we can either expect volume 3 by the end of december or early next year.

Yes I hope they do keep looking for Family Dog. That was one of my favorite episodes, actually it was probably the best of the whole bunch.

From "Doug's Corner" at Intrada:

November 18

I'm off now for one full week. Not that you care but I'll be overseas for a few days on business. I'll be back after the 1st of December. We've got our next Signature Edition due around that time as well. Probably just a few days into December. Watch our site for a proper announcement so you don't miss out. We'll probably have yet another one out within a week or two of that. I'll know when I get back. I can also say with confidence we've got a really special release coming up later in January. It's certainly gonna grab some attention. And, of course, there's our third AMAZING STORIES anthology being readied. I don't see much rest ahead for George back in the mail room. Not until next summer, anyway!

But that's a good thing, too. Talk to you in a week.

Looks like it will be well into Janurary, or possibly even later...

Does anyone know anything about the non-Williams scores on this release? Any good?

In any case, hopefully this will expose more people to the wonder that is Williams' The Mission. If you haven't heard it yet, you're in for a HUGE treat!

I've never heard the original recording (never watched the show), though I love the Varese edition. For anyone that has heard both, how accurate is the re-recording?
