I was positing what the best giant monster score would be. My favorite would is Akira Ifukube's Gojira just slightly edging out Alex North's Dragonslayer but I'm interested in how the other admissions fare...

BTW- this category encompasses any film where there's a big animal (dinosaur) or creature.

I never saw the remake, but have fond memories of the Japanese surrendering the world to save 2 boys.

Alas, I did cast my vote for the giant flying beast even though Jurassic Park is the best.

I love Williams but there is only one person who could score a giant monster movie and that would be the late Akira Ifukube.

Gojira gets my vote.

I'm in no way an expert but seriously there are more votes in this poll than I expected. While there may be a few others, Fiery Angel and I are probably the only ones who are familiar with all of the scores listed. LOL

I have a video that has quite a few of the old Gamera trailers in their original Japanese form and my friend and I just about died with laughter watching it.

I like many of those scores, but Godzilla '98 and Jurassic Park are the most well-rounded scores. My vote went for Godzilla just because it's got great action and an amazing slower love-like theme.

Truthfully I really don't consider JP or the Lost World monster movies when compared to the others on the list.

I think we got a more of a glimpse of what Williams might do with monster film with War Of The Worlds than the JP films.

I voted for Max Steiner's original King Kong, the granddaddy of them all.

Another big monster score that always make me smile is Gerard Schurmann's Konga. I am convinced that Schurmann's work as an orchestrator on Ernest Gold's oscar-winning score to Exodus must have had a subconscious influence on him, as the main theme of that ape-run-amok saga is strikingly similar to Gold's main theme, to my ears at least.

That's why I didn'y vote for them. They're not monsters, they once roamed this planet.

If you are not an expert, nobody here is :)

Another vote for Gojira, the original and the best so far. (other options in the poll are better for me, but they're not "monster scores" in my opinion, such as TLW or Dragonslayer -North's masterpiece-)

scissorhands, who loves Ifukube's ostinato-driven syncopated themes.
