I listened to it this week, and it's still a terrific score. The new material doesn't really add anything substantial, but it is nice to have the entire finale in chronological order. I would recommend it only if you don't have it already or if you LOVED the movie or have extra $$$ to spend.

I agree about the new material but it is nice to have. I also agree about having the entire final intact and in chrono order. Also the sound quality for this is actually better than the Milan release. I would say if you were an fan of Arnold and a Stargate fan you should buy this CD if you don't have it yet.

Marc (our moderator) should be able to answer that question since he has the CD. I can't answer it until I get my CD next week.

EDIT: I just checked my UPS tracking number and my Stargate CD will be here on the 17th (Tuesday). In the words of Homer Simpson, "WHOOHOO!"

Any linear notes with the score?

There's about 3-and-a-half pages of liner notes by Jerry McCulley, dealing with Arnold's career (going from starting with scoring graduation projects of his film buddies to Stargate and eventually the Bond movies, although the latter ones are only briefly adressed) and some of the broader ideas that went into this particular score.

Nothing cue-specific like the Star Wars SEs or anything.

Along with the Lost S2 disc and a free copy of Shadows of the Empire. :)

Free Shadows of the Empire? How does that work?

Dunno. A welcoming gift perhaps. It was my first purchase at Colosseum and quite surprised to find this third disc when I opened the package. There was a sticker on the front (which I removed) that said something like "A Gift for Your Purchase" or something. The disc itself also has a "For Promotional Use Only" label on it. Cover art and contents are the same as the regular release.

Actually there are only just a few small tracks that aren't really necessary that are missing. A lot of music was tracked from other cues. IE: The first part of "The Other Side" (with the drums and cymbol clashes) was tracked from "Leaving Nagada". Also the story of when Daniel tells Jack about the story of RA and the uprising that took place that too was tracked from "Myth, Faith, Belief" but pitched just a tad.

Here's pretty much what's missing from the score.

1: I THINK "Wild Abduction" might have had a different recording for what's used in the film, then again it might be tracked but it's really hard to hear for sure with all the sound effects.

2: There's a statement of the Militaryish style of the Stargate theme when it shows the car that has Daniel Jackson arriving at Stargate Command which plays at the end of "Unstable". This sounds similar to what plays at the end of "You're On The Team" but still slightly different.

3: There's a little piece of music that plays when it says "Two Weeks Later" before it shows Daniel replaying the notes he recorded on his voice recorder. This cue would go between "Translation" and "Orion".

4: The music that plays when the probe is sent through the Stargate and arrives on Abados (the planet where they go to even though it's not offically called that in the film). This piece of music is heard at the begining of the film when it shows a fossil of one of Ra's guards being discovered after the Stargate is unearthed but with that particular scene the pitch for the music was changed a bit.

Other than what I pointed out everything else is there and this CD is worth getting, trust me. Don't let others fool you into thinking other wise. Like I said a lot of the other music was tracked from other cues.

Let's see here, as I said a lot of music was tracked from other cues.

"The Fossil"

Definitely tracked from "The Probe" with a tad change to the pitch and edited.

"The Fossil Again"

Tracked from "Leaving Nagada"

"The Pyramid"

Tracked from "Leaving Negada"

"Closing The City - Trying To Get Out - Into The Sand Storm"

Tracked from "Battle At The Pyramid".

"Guns Are Dangerous"

Tracked from "Unstable".

"Troops Are Taken To Ra"

Is actually "Sarcophagus Opens".

"The Story Of Ra"

Tracked from "Myth, Faith, Belief" with slight change of pitch.

"Daniel Chats With Ra"

Is actually "Myth, Faith, Belief"

"Traveling In The Sandstorm"

Tracked from "Battle At The Pyramid", and "Surrender".

"Disabling The Bomb"

Tracked from "Assembling The Bomb"

"Cheering"

Is from "Kasuf Returns".

End Credits Medley

Most of this was tracked from "The Stargate Opens" and "We Don't Want To Die", how it appears on the Varese CD is how it was originally recorded

Cues we do not have on CD:

"Wild Abduction"

I think two different cues were recorded for this scene the one we have on the Varese CD could be an alternate. I could be wrong but no way to be certain.

"Nuclear Silo"

"Working"

Should go after "Translation".

"The Probe and "The Other Side Of The Universe"

Should in reality be one cue according to the rear channels.

"The Party" and "Daniel Is Taken Away To Be Washed"

Most likely supposed to be one cue since it's source music.

"Ra Has Landed"

---------------------------------

As I pointed out the others are tracked. I know the music by heart now.

So only 5 cues that did not make it onto the CD because they could not fit other than that the Varese edition is 99% complete and is worth getting. Those missing five cues I can live with out.
