Two films I remember seeing from my childhood, and can only remember key scenes.

First Film:

During the final fight the villian falls from the top of a multi-story building (perhaps a manor house or hotel) and is impaled on the upturned sword af a large statue in the courtyard. This final shot is in shocking silhouette.

Second film:

A swashbuckling adventure film in the style of the Harryhausen Sindbad films. The villain has had his heart removed and hidden away in a glass case to make him immortal. The hero goes on a quest to find the heart. At the end of the film the villain gets stabbed either with a sword or knife, but he doesn't die. Then the hero smashes the case destroying the heart, and the villain's wound starts bleeding and he dies. I have a feeling this is a film from the 60s.

Bear in mind I would have seen both these films on television between around 1978-1982 or so.

Has anyone got any thoughts on what these films could be? Thanks.

Could the first film be:

Witchboard?

A pretty bad 80's horror film about the Ouija board? I remember a scene like what you described.

The first film: Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning?

And that is a serious suggestion by the way.

(Although it was not a sword and he (Jason) fell of a barn I think...)

It's not Jack The Giant Killer is it?

It had 7th Voyage stars Kerwin Matthews and Torin Thatcher.

I don't think the first film was a horror. I actually think it might have been a black comedy, but no graphic images which is why that final shot stayed with me, it was so shocking compared to the rest of the film. I think it might have been something like Hitchcock meets Pink Panther! I just don't know!

Mark Olivarez, I will check up on your suggestion. Jack the Giant Killer sounds like the right kind of thing. Thanks!

It featured stop-motion animation as well with a 2 headed giant, a tentacled sea monster and a flying creature.

Well I've just bought Jack the Giant Killer on sale from Blockbuster. It's great fun! The scene on the boat with the witches and the skeletal "bride" with the smouldering bouquet is really quite horrific for a G-rated movie.

However, this is not the film with the villain's heart in a glass container. I still hope to find it. Greg, did you remember what it's called? If I recall there's an earlier scene where the hero has to follow an enchanted path and is told not to stray from the path no matter what temptations he sees. Of course all sorts of tempations appear either side of the path, including an image of the heroine in danger, trying to lure him off the path to certain death. Aaargh, it's driving me nuts!

Could the first film be Burnt Offerings? Its the first thing I thought when reading it.
