OH my God.

Yeah, that's definately not Next Generation, but that's about as far as anyone can speculate at this point. I have a feeling they'll bomb with this movie. It'd be really nice if they could make a good film out of this, but they won't since it has the same team that's been botching the last two films.

It was botched. THey had excellent actors, pretty good music, a plot reminiscent of Wrath of Khan, a great villain, and yet the director decided to cut a bunch of stuff from it, making the final film feel like it skipped over important parts. While watching, I actually forget what the whole point of the super laser was because they had barely mentioned it throughout the film.

I like the movie, but it's botched b ecause it could have been so good if they hadn't hacked it apart.

Didn't they bring in JJ Abrams for this new one? Won't he take his go-to guys with him?

I actually found a lot of the "important" deleted scenes in Nemesis a tad awkward. Of course, they wouldn't have needed the chop if the acting wasn't so mediocre, or even cringe-inducing when you watch Wesley Crusher. Otherwise, Nemesis happens to be one of my favourite Trek entries, despite how flawed it is.

And I like Stuart Baird.

Actually, yeah, I saw that after I posted. There were rumors but I thought Abrams always denied it. Now it's official though. And it's for sure not a movie about Voyager, Deep Space Nine, or Enterprise, which Abrams admits he doesn't like. The poster is obviously from a TOS or pre-TOS era. Rumors have it that it's about Kirk and Spock meeting at the Academy or whatever. Not sure what I think about that, and Abrams says he can't say anything about the plot.

But as someone mentioned about random, unfoudned speculation starting with this poster, I do find it interesting that the colors used in the poster are tan and blue, the colors of Kirk and Spock's uniforms in TOS. It's probably a coincidence though.

I think that this could very well be a good movie in its own right, but I'm not sure how Trek fans will feel about it. It seems that it's being built as totally different from any Trek series or movie before.

That's the old Harve Bennett concept that was concieved after the failure of Trek 5.

Fortunatly cooler heads prevailed and they gave the old guys another shot.

This is clearly the prequel story of how Sulu went from wearing a blue shirt in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" to a gold shirt in "The Corbomite Maneuver".

That's what I'm hoping for. There's much more potential in Trek than you can realise with just a series structure. To some extent, even IV proved that, though it was still the same cast. But why not do a "normal" (i.e. full exposition, new characters etc.) comedy/thriller/mystery/drama/whatever in the Trek universe?

Star Trek should go into the future, not into the past.

Frankly ST should be put to rest for awhile.

To what end and purpose? For some child to be born who will single handedly rescue Star Trek?

To quote Spock, "Illogical."

Trek fans

Are the ones who brought upon the demise of their beloved franchise, week in and week out they supported the garbage Voyager and Enterprise.

What made the first three series great was they that each while still maintaining their roots, managed to evolve beyond the previous series, and managed to be new and fresh in their respective eras.

What made the original movies great was their ability to break from the style of storytelling of the TV series.

None of that occured with Voyager, or with Enterprise, or even 3 of the 4 TNG movies. Same formula over and over, and to top it off, the same formula executed in some of the most lackluster ways possible.

All I can say is, Nicholas Meyer was the greatest thing to happen to Star Trek since Gene Roddenberry in the original series.

He was given the reigns not for the sake of being new blood, but because he had creative ideas. Rick Berman gave a crappy director and editor, with a crappy track record, the reigns to Nemesis, for the sake of new blood. Saw what we got?

Baird is one of the elite, premiere action editors working in film today, and a very competent director. Nemesis wasn't the greatest of scripts, but he did what he could with the material.

Stuart Baird is a decent director and an outstanding editor.

Outstanding? Oh, because he worked under the guidance of a competent director on The Omen and Superman, and Lethal Weapon and everything subsequent to those efforts was average and below?

First I heard of that.

We shall see if Casino Royale proves you right.

I don't think a Martin Campbell film will change my opinion. LOL

But I wait...he brought Pierce Brosnan in alright.

I gotta slap you with a big fat "No" on that one.

He isn't bad. He's just nothing other than average.

Stuart Baird should have his testicles ripped of in a mechanical accident, and any prodgeny he's already sired should be terminated post birth, to save the world from their father's hideous mistake.

Stuart Baird did edit Superman nearly 30 years ago, but in the last few years he killed Star Trek. His blood should drip for a millenia.

Is he worse than Berman?

yes he is, just a Lucas as worse as a director as he is a producer.

Wow, I had no idea so many passionate Trekkies (or Trekkers, whatever) existed on this board. It's hard for me to get into Star Trek sometimes . . . I suppose the last couple of movies left a bad taste in my mouth. As for the show, I've always enjoyed it for more campy reasons than anything. I think it's good they're bringing in new blood for Star Trek. Although I've yet to be amazed by anything Abrams has done. Yeah, I dug Alias and I really dig Lost, but MI:3 wasn't all that in my book . . . just merely passable (especially the score . . . yeah, bring the hate if you want).

I have to admit though, for the first time in a while there are a lot of films coming out that look interesting. Pan's Labyrinth and 300 come to mind.

can someone please tell me whats happening? I have to admit that I'm no Trek fan and the last time I tried to watch TMP (it was when I was 4 and Perrilly's were sponsoring Star Trek TMP followed by Star Wars on TV that night) I fell asleep. Yes I know there are two generations and the last movie was supposed to be Patrick Stewart and gang's last.
