robthehand 3
I know that several of Rykodisc's soundtrack releases (The Magnificent Seven, The Thomas Crown Affair among others) have since been reissued by Varese Sarabande. I just want to know if the sound quality on the Varese discs is better? The reason I ask is that I just bought two Ryko releases (The Misfits and Carrie), and want to know whether to unseal them, or return them and pay that bit extra for the Varese CDs. Ollie 859
As far as I know the sound is the same except for The Great Escape. Apparently the channels were reversed on the Ryko version and Varese corrected it or something to that effect.click
sulky 6
The Magnificent Seven on Ryko was encoded in HDCD whereas the Varese wasn't. Also afaIk, the majority of these reissues have been further remastered (by Erick Labson) - though I don't know if the results have yielded in greater or lesser sound quality.
