America by Simon/Garfunkel? The "Yes" version is best!

If you can use non-vocal pieces, Dvorak's "New World" Symphony (9th symphony) owes much of its invention to Dvorak's American influences. Hence the title. Er... obviously... :)

It's Hard to be a Saint in the City (Bruce Springsteen)

New York New York (Frank Soprano, er I mean Sinatra)

Get Back (The Beatles)

Viva Las Vegas (Elvis the Pelvis)

In the Ghetto ( Pelvis again)

America (Gary Numan)

I'm Afraid of Americans (David Bowie)

Not all exactly classics, but different views on America.

How about Amerika by Rammstein?

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika ist wunderbar

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika

Amerika

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika ist wunderbar

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika

Amerika

Wenn getanzt wird will ich führen

Auch wenn ihr euch alleine dreht

Lasst euch ein wenig kontrollieren

Ich zeige euch wie's richtig geht

Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen

Die Freiheit spielt auf allen Geigen

Musik kommt aus dem Weißen Haus

Und vor Paris steht Mickey Mouse

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika ist wunderbar

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika

Amerika

Ich kenne Schritte die sehr nützen

Und werde euch vor Fehltritt schützen

Und wer nicht tanzen will am Schluss

Weiss noch nicht dass er tanzen muss

Wir bilden einen lieben Reigen

Ich werde euch die Richtung zeigen

Nach Afrika kommt Santa Claus

Und vor Paris steht Mickey Mouse

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika ist wunderbar

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika

Amerika

This is not a love song

This is not a love song

I don't sing my mother tongue

No, this is not a love song

We're all living in Amerika

Coca Cola

Sometimes war

We're all living in Amerika

Amerika

Amerika

The Animaniacs sing a song that names all the states. I think they might have done one naming all the presidents too.

Edit:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qm3_MO-JzUE for the states and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2YR80hTRmw for the presidents.

LOL Ray, that's great.

And since I know your tastes, I add "California" by Phantom Planet (I once mentioned it and you, Ray, quoted me ;) ).

I believe the phrase you are looking for is iconic.

Iconic isn't a phrase, it's a word!

And "icon-song" is a fine definition to me anyways. :P

I didn't recall calling Marc "stupid" or myself "smart", I just pointed out the correct title. Don't talk when you're not being asked, or you don't know what we're talking about. Sometimes it looks like you feel forced to post in every goddamn thread...

Alright, knock it off, you two.

Back to the topic at hand, I haven't seen any mention of California Dreamin' yet.

Also, I think the Red Hot Chilli Peppers have a bunch of songs about California.

And then there's of course the Beach Boys' California Girls... :P

Interesting comment, coming from you.

LOL Hahah that's so false! I'm interested in less than half of threads...

Yeah! At least Californication and Dani California!

And since you mentioned the Beach Boys, I add Surfin' U.S.A.

I also think that many other Beach Boys songs can be considered a little part of America, like those happy-feelings songs like I get around, Wouldn't it be nice, Surfin' safari, Sloop John B, Barbara Ann, Fun fun fun, ...those doesn't have any direct reference to America, but are American classics, without a doubt. :P

Thank you, Marian (althought you said the same sentence many other times), now go back to topic, again.

I don't think I'm the America that Erik is looking for, and I also think he didn't opened this thread to know our IQs, so let's discuss songs or just shut up.

Erik, I got three other titles for you:

- The Eagles - Hotel California

- Frank Sinatra - New York, New York

- John Denver - Country roads

:)

Have I found a fight, red_rabbit?

Have I found one?

No. Not with me at least.

Rabbit--who doesn't know Mirko well enough to call him stupid
