Quintus 5,391
Some Disney films have great themes, but the words get in the way of good music for the most part Are there any good orchestra only albums available?
LongTallJodie 55
Williams' own "The Hollywood Sound" has stellar performances of "Beauty and the Beast" and "Colors of the Wind."Additionally, the soundtrack albums for every movie scored by Alan Menken has the score as WELL as the songs. Personally, I love "Pocahontas", if only because he weaves "If Never Knew You" throughout the entire soundtrack as the love theme, even though the song itself was cut from the final film.Arthur Fiedler's "Salute to Disney" with the Boston Pops is also worth checking out. It has orchestral medleys of many older Disney films (ie, the Walt era), as well as half the soundtrack to Fantasia.

Morlock 9
The Mulan CD is really all you need from Disney. Nonsense, for a couple of reasons. A. While Mulan is a terrific score, you can find enough similar material in Goldsmith's career, where as there's only one place where you can find something like Beauty and The Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (besides the fact that they're better scores to far better films). B. The OST is a piece of ass-wipe. The score is not well-represented and you have to suffer through some of the worst songs written for a Disney film. The boot, however, is a marvelous album from start to finish (still though, not unique enough to be as good as the best of Menken's output). Morlock- Who, despite his comments, does not recommend anyone try to wipe their ass with the Mulan OST.
BLUMENKOHL 1,064
The closest thing that comes to Mulan by Goldsmith is Lionheart.

Morlock 9
The closest thing that comes to Mulan by Goldsmith is Lionheart.I don't think any one score can take that spot....but practically all of Goldsmith's 90's scores sound a lot like other Goldsmith scores. I still love them, my point was that the best Menken stuff doesn't sound like much else, due to Menken rather limited body of work. The Lion King has good music. Indeed it does. I also think that score is more noteworthy than Mulan, not because it is, god forbid, better written, or serves the film better, but only because it is more unique than Mulan. LongTallJodie 55
The Lion King has good music.Indeed, although technically, it sounds like the original poster was looking for orchestral takes on Disney songs and themes, whereas Zimmer's score for TLK is completely unrelated from Elton John's music. Luke Skywalker 1,284
I agree with Stefan, and add The Incredibles to the list Well the lion king is cool too. But the OST is another ass-wipe CD...

There is a promo with more Debney music than the OST.The Emperor's New Groove by John Debney: Enjoyable, but not spectacular.Mulan by Jerry Goldsmith: The best score for an animated film I have ever heard. Especially with the unreleased music from the promo.
LongTallJodie 55
Oh, and I should also mention "Heigh-Ho Mozart" and "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Bach." They're Disney themes played in the style of a variety of classical composers. The actually quality of these is hit and miss and some of the themes are almost unrecognizable, but it's still fun and in the orchestral vein. BurgaFlippinMan 7
if you are going to buy them, I'd suggest Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast. Those have great score AND songs. Don't buy Zimmer's The Lion King, try and get the expanded boot. Mulan is great too, but I find the amount of score on CD rather unsatisfyingBurga - who REALLY needs to somehow obtain the Mulan boot/promo
