Tolkien only really started to make money out of his novels when he was well into his old age. He and Edith and the children lived a relatively frugal and poor life when money was concerned. And I think there were several battles over the illegal paperback edition of LotR in the US, which threatened to undermine his income from the profits of the novel there.

Yeah he was never motivated to write because of money. Or else he would have actually had The Sil published in his own lifetime instead of spending decades trying to fine tune it. Trying to put this imaginary world from his mind to paper.

"Another brilliant creation from Weta Workshop! Thirteen of the world’s tallest Dwarves – plus a distinctly larger-than-life Hobbit – have taken up residence at the New Zealand Post's headquarters, one of the most prominent buildings on Wellington’s waterfront."

love it!

The Hobbit madness is slowly starting. This and the giant fish and Gollum at Wellington's airport are sure signs. Cool picture. :)

ROTFLMAO

Unbelievable!

Or perhaps not. This is after all the same airline that had a giant hobbit painted on their biggest plane the last time Middle Earth craze inflamed the country.

Who cares? The guy's dead now. Come on Disney, get the rights to LOTR, and give us the sequel we all want to see!

You mean the Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Gandalf crossover movie? I want to see that.

He even took time to number things, space them out, add underlines, italics.... hours after we had already been discussing it in the right thread :)

And he didn't even post a source link.

New TV spot:

That's the best TV spot yet. It had some cool little bits and wasn't as messy as the other ones.

Ah. All those bits are similar enough to things we've seen before, especially the dish throwing stuff.

BTW, is there a list of video available of all the footage shown in the older teasers/trailers that we know now to be in Film 2 (or 3?)

I just liked hearing some new lines from Galadriel and Gandalf instead of the same old ones. And the only potential film 2 material we've seen is some of the Gandalf scenes in Dol Goldur right?

Almost all Comic-Con posters in better quality (Missing are Galadriel and Gloin). Should we make December a "Dwarf Avatar Month"? Or at least, a "The Hobbbit Avatar Month"?

yes! definitely! (Y)

though I'll miss my terminal avatars...

Jason is already using the image from the posters so I'll stick to my "enigmatic look" Gandalf portrait.

Could this photo be a fake?

Radagast does not look the same actor (could be the sled-stunt man...) even looks photoshoped, and furthermore his beard is very long and has a laced knot in the middle, which the other photos dont have...

I think the photos is a bit skewed. That looks like Sylvester McCoy to me though. But you are right, his beard is a bit different.
