That was my logic. He does seem a little older than it LOTR, but that kind of makes sense.

Do you mean that it makes sense for Legolas to look a little older in the Hobbit than he does in LotR? Why ever would that make sense? It would be some kind of reverse aging.

I think he meant it makes sense because Orlando Bloom is a decade older, and it's hard to hide that fact.

Yes it kind of makes sense that a human changes in 10 years a bit. For elves not so much. ;)

People should try to diffrentiate the actor from the character when they say such things. Makes things confusing. I am befuddled enough without such hazards.

Well, it adapts the first third of the book, which makes sense as there are going to be three movies.

The parts that are from the book and not made up are fairly faithful, but there are some changes I have no idea why they made AT ALL, like the resolution of the troll sequence, the way Gandalf gets Thrain's key and map, or the changing of the Moria/Azog/Bolg backstory (which is actually from the LOTR appendix, but damn the original story is way better!)

But that's the problem - Bilbo is MORE developed in that scene in the book!

In the book, after everyone is captured, he realizes himself that daylight will turn the trolls to stone when one of them mentions something about it. So he ends up getting them to debate how to cook the dwarves for HOURS, until the sunlight finally comes and takes them, so caught up in the debate they are.

In the film, he gets them to debate for maybe 30 seconds, before Gandalf comes and cracks a rock which lets the sunlight hit them. Huge difference and I have no idea why they thought it was better to do it that way!

Most things from the book haven't been shown much yet. For example, Beorns house and Smaug. The Woodland Realm will have extra things, spiders in milkwood may be similar. Then there's plenty at Laketown we haven't seen yet. Anyway, we'll find out soon.

Go to Golbin tunnels, bilbo meets Gollum gets ring

Chased by warts to tree, get saved by eagles

Are you watching a different film series?

Milkwood border on innuendo again.

Hey check out Beorn's house, an actual set built in the actual outdoors, in this high resolution still!

That picture was posted some time ago wasn't it? Although I don't think it was in such high resolution.

I love how big the set is.

Uhm, Bilbo did not do that, it was Gandalf!

My oh my oh my, you are absolutely right, I dunno what I was thinking earlier. Total brain fart.

Still, what I like about the book is that Gandalf returns and finds the company captured by the trolls, so he starts throwing his voice to keep them arguing, cause they all keep thinking one of the others is continuing the convo. But I guess I like the movie version more now, cause it makes Bilbo the hero and he did everything he needed to give Gandalf time to get to the rock, who he knew was nearby.

At that point Gandalf coming to the rescue still shows how helpless Bilbo is in the wide world. Which makes for a more compelling growth story for the novel actually (the dwarves do not succeed any better) but from filmic point of view it was indeed a savvy move to make Bilbo distract the trolls so his work with Gandalf was a concerted effort and made him more of a hero from their first real dangerous encounter on and started his character growth earlier.

Well most of the things in his main post are not deleted scenes at all, just stuff glimpsed at in the special features during principal photography that might have never made it into any cut of the film.

The other stuff mentioned later, like Bilbo looking out his door before deciding to join the company, we know was shot because we have the score music.

I do wish more of Old Took's party had been shown, and more Thrain (though that might be in DOS now)

I thought the statement of Bilbo's Baggin/Took Theme B Section in that track was for the deleted shot of him looking outside.

And anyway, do we know for sure that this shot is meant for the The Adventure Begins scene?

Because PJ said it was for that scene.

Yeah this is how I see the sequence:

Begining of the track > String bit as Bilbo looks up after seeing the contract > silence > music starts up again after Bilbo comes out/opens the door > B/T theme > The rest of the music plays as per the film.
